RE: Enough truck to tow this trailer?

Hey there all. We have been offered a great deal on a 2006 Jayco Designer 36rlts. I need to know if our truck will handle the trailer. It is a 2003 F350, 4x4, long-bed, crew cab, automatic trans with a 6.0 diesel. We have an older style hitch that says it's rated for 15,000 lbs. The trailer has a Moryde hitch. Paper work say the hitch pin weight is 2450 lbs. Don't have airbags, but I would install a set of Firestone bags. We have a 1992 Cardinal fifth wheel and the truck pulls it quite easily. Overall length of that trailer is just under 34 feet.
Any help here would be appreciated, thanks.
Gene
One of Our closest friends towed a slightly older version of that unit with a 99 f250 sd with the v10 very comfortably & he did have a set of Air bags.

RE: Cedar Creek vs Montana -

I really don't know but right now we are in a southern Rv resort with 100 sites. There are 35 Montanas and 8 Cedarcreeks here. Also I understand for the last 5 or so years Montanas have been the largest selling units. We have friends That really use theirs and both of them love them with a lot of miles on them..IMHO Happy new year

RE: Salin tire brand?

I bought a Black and Decker electric mower in 1991. It still works but some things have fallen off and I wanted a grass catcher, so I bought a new one - made in China. It didn't make it around the lawn once without burning up the motor. Same lawn, same brand namae, Chinese mfr. 2 replacements - same issue.
Then there are the 4 B&D leaf blowers made in China that I went through. I didn't keep the original receipt because after all, the last B&D I bought lasted 24 years. All I could get was a replacement of the exact same leaf blower. Finally, I gave up, wrote B&D a nasty letter and threw the dang thing in the trash. Same with the mower - in the trash.
Would I trust my life and the lives of others to something made in China? Never. Good grief they can't even supply glutamen for dog food without it killing a bunch of pets.
Right now in New Orleans a lot of people are having to rip out all the new sheet rock they installed after Katrina. Why? It was made in China and is falling apart.
Maybe they built a huge wall with the help of slaves but they can't make anything else that doesn't fall apart or kill you.
I do everything in my power to not buy something made in China because it is a waste of money and is dangerous.
What happened to the US? We built the best of everything and now we build nothing and use junk.
Iris
The chinese drywall situation was in florida several years back..It is now in court & the company agreed to one large class action suit instead of years of one at a time. All of the big tire people build in foreign countries as was said above, unions and slackers saved by them were part of the problem. I was a union member & leader for years so I know first hand what went on and didn't like it a bit when I had to save their jobs for them.
I also am approaching 5 years on a set of what you call maypops & am negotiating to get another set just like them. I witness all of the good homeland tires fail too, almost daily. Just yesterday my neighbor was telling me about all the young Goodyears he has had fail in the last 9 months 5 on one unit. The neighbor on the other side lost two Goodyears on the way south this fall on a fiver,no one is imune & many are overloaded too. Then lets talk about Carlysle!!!!!Hoosier is one of the few american makers of quality but darn it they don't make rv tires but if Bob made them they would be good.

RE: To shock or not to shock?

Shocks are great for ride control on most units as I have had them both ways & now always have shocks. That being said they have no involvement in what is happening to you & would also get all beaten up too.
I suggest you work with a suspension specialist as what is happening to you regularly is off the scale as being even close to normal..IMHO
I think the whole package is undersized for what your unit does to it, maybe an axle spring and shackle upgrade, then shocks may be the answer. Normally when shackles break not wear it is because they don't have enough travel for the length of the spring so are driven past the point by severe road abuse as you describe. A slipper type shackle can reduce this pressure by allowing the needed travel..The frame mount for the shackle may be to close to the axle. Good luck & hope you find a good suspension guy to help you sort it out.IMHO

RE: Lost my Timmie today

We feel your pain as our real children are nearing 50. Our dear furry friend has been with us almost every minute for just about 11 years and she truly is our baby now.You must take solace in the fact that we do not want to lose what we love but shared the deepest love you could have by letting Timmie go for the big nap forever with no more suffering. Bless you for your compassion for a very treasure loved one.. Have a wonderful day remembering all the good & great times you all had. IHHO

RE: New Toilet for Christmas!

We now have the styleplus since it first came out & really like it. It cleans so easy & sits very comfortable so good to go..We got the tall for a number of reasons. I did not get the sprayer but may add it as I can see it's validity. I had the Bravura & it was a piece of not good work. Three of our friends have had a Sealand of one description or another but all have been replaced with the model we have except one. He is an old farmer & throws nothing out so at least once a season or more he has the dealer fix it but his Bathroom has a lingering odor from continuous minor to major seepage they can't seem to correct. This is after about 4 or five seasons with our unit,5 stars. IMHO good luck & meery Christmas..........

RE: 1/2 or 3/4? - Gas or Diesel?

I have been told many times & do agree That if you don't drive 30000 to 40000 miles a year towing a diesel is not the best way to go Especially if towing light. Find a capable gas job that will do your job & go that way be it a 3/4 ton. I have a powerstroke and love it but looking back on & figuring costs of maintenance on the PSD, I do wish I had gone with the V10.I would have saved a lot of up front money, maintenance money & at the pump money with a slight loss of MPG It is tempting but think it out all the way as it sounds like you do..IMHO

RE: Now my turn need new printer

We have an Epson CX6400 for a few years now. Our Desktop PC is a like a print server. We set up a wireless network at home and I print from my laptop (Vista) and dh has a laptop with XP. Never a probelm with the Epson.
We too have Epsons 3 of them and never a problem. I also like the fact for everyday printing you can buy cartridges for as little as $3.00 a cartridge online, not epson and they work well!!! You can do pictures also but if worried about that you can always get better ones for that. All of the other units built have very very costly cartridges!! 25 to who knows a piece. I use the cheap cartridges all the time. The printers have been trouble free & one is nearing 8 years old.

RE: Ford recall on cruise control

Just got my letter from Ford to have the switch replaced on my 2000 F550 super duty. They are so backed up my appointment isn't until December 3. They say it takes about 40 minutes and one can wait!
After having the truck all this time they now say don't patk in a building and advise me to keep it away from buildings!
It took about 5 minutes in the write up lane & no apptment at our dealer. It is a piece of wire with two fuses to blow so if fluid drips it will break the circuit so it can't cause a fire so I was told.

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

jdubja: Mine has the ABS sidewall and they have not offered to replace it. It doesn't bother me and it does keep off some weight.
What does bother me is the wire for the radio antenna. It is hooked up to the radio and then goes along with all the speaker wires into wire loom, then out along the bottom of the slide and into the bottom of the trailer. It then goes in between the floor and therefore I'm unable to trace it any further. It must end in the floor somewhere because there is no external radio antenna on the roof. Is anyone else's like this? Anyone have a solution?
About the radio, forget everything I said after "It is hooked up to the radio". The wire that goes into the loom is for the TV. The radio wire just goes into the wall behind the radio. What happens from there I have no idea.
I don't get any AM radio and very poor reception on a couple of FM stations only. I hooked up a car radio antenna to the back of the radio and I get good recetion. I was planning on running antenna wire all the way up to the roof and putting the car antenna up there. That will take many hours of work. Rather than doing that, what if I just put the car antenna behind the TV and it will be out of sight? Any thoughts on that?
I did what you are proposing,I bought a $10.00 car antennae and stood it up in the corner behind the tv. I secured it with a plastic wire tye and it works very well! Don't even see it either, Enjoy!!!

RE: What kind of battery to buy for TT?

I'll call him tomorrow. I am hoping he just forgot to give it to me.
I am sad to hear a dealer plain rip a customer of this way as many units state that the unit should not be plugged in without a battery in the system. Having purchased 6 new units over the years they all came with group 27 deep cycle batteries!

RE: Installing a 50 Amp Shore Receptacle on my home?

Currently I have a 27' TT that I plug into a 110 volt outlet in my garage. As you know, I can not run my air conditioner when preparing to go camping. I've searched the forum, but I can't find a good explaination on wiring a "50 Amp Shore Receptacle" on the outside of my home. I'm thinking of a 50 Amp just in case I buy my dream motorhome, and want to use the same receptacle.
Is there a link on this forum for such a task?
Thanks in advance.
4 wires Two 120 volt legs plus a ground and a neutral. You need a 220 volt dual breaker & a 50 amp 4 connector receptacle for the place to plug into. I had an opening in my panel,I also had a 40amp double so I used that and ran 10 gauge thhn in conduit,20 ft run, to the outside mounted recept in an enclosure. Works fine everyday we are home..There has been a lot of discussion on this on this forum so you should be able to search it out.
