RE: Steering Problem With My 2005 Cummins "Shipping Crate"

Hydro boost is basically a diesel version of brake booster for power brakes. Could also be a steering issue. Get it to a good alignment shop for a thorough inspection Yes and the Hydro-boost is powered by the PS pump, which is driven off the Vacuum pump through a coupling that does fail from time to time.My '04 does not have a vac. pump and I doubt his '05 does either.

RE: Steering Problem With My 2005 Cummins "Shipping Crate"

sounds like the coupling between the p/s pump and vac pump.. turning and braking is putting enough load that is slips/grinds..I don't beleive his has a vac pump. My '04 does not and his is an '05. 150k on mine and no noise yet.

RE: Newb drowning in all the weight number, please help

Sure the question has been asked a million times and sorry for bringing it back up but as the title states, I got a headache from all the number floating in my head. Wife and I just put down a deposit on a used Travel Trailer, our first. We do not have a truck yet, had decided on trying to find a 2001-2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty with the 7.3 Diesel. So I don't have a official numbers, just what I've been trying to find in pdf files online. The place I bought the TT told me that F-250 can pull up to a 10,000 lbs. The numbers have me all confused as one RV place told me to look at the UVW. So do I need to pay attention to GVWR or UVW? Is there someplace online that I can find out if F-250 will put it fine? Or can someone here confirm whether nor not it would work? Do I need to be looking for a F-350? It's only a 27ft so I figured it wouldn't take much to pull it. I don't know. I'm second guessing myself and driving myself mad. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeffrey EDIT:sorry forgot to post pic of weight sticker from trailer. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z288/Jeffrey9910/null_zps70d32779.jpgI pulled that size trailer with a '99 Dodge 1500, 5.2L 4 speed auto,3.55 rear gears and did just fine. Towed it to the Black Hills and to Great Falls,Mt. If you get a Ford 7.3 you will have more than enough truck. JMHO

RE: 2012 dodge 3500 dually

Looking at a 3500 dually 2012 pros and cons. will be used for towing my 5th wheel 12,000 lbsIs that 12k gvw or dry. I pull a 12k gvw 5er with a '04,5, 3.73 gears, 5.9L and get 12 mpg towing, 18+ solo of mixed country/city.

RE: looking for switch to change hot water tank to electric

I have to admit that I am totally confused re: inside switch/outside switch on the hot water heater. I just picked up my new 5th wheel. Did a rapid walk through at the dealers, and have our first trip out this coming weekend. The switch is set to ön" at the outside water heater compartment. Water system has been primed. So when I hook up, do I turn the inside water heater switch to ÖN" also? I have read the instructions 30 times, and am scared to death to do anything at this point. Yes, this is a very new newbie asking the question.... Thanks! This forum has been SO helpful!I have one very big caution for you since you are a little confused. DO NOT have the electric SW. ON with an empty tank as you will have a burned out element real QUICK.

RE: Using Clamp-On Multimeter to Check a/c Surge Current

I have a $400. Fluke multi-meter that I used when I worked as an industrial electrician. I have an amp probe adapter for it that would read up to 400 amps. The meter had a record function that read and stored min., max.,avg. over time. I could play it back and see what was going on with unit in question. It would also do peak readings. But as I said it was expensive. I have not priced the newer ones. They may do more for a lot less.

RE: Watch the 2 millionth Cummins engine for the Ram being built

I'm not a blind cheerleader fan of or for any particular brand or engine etc. I am a cheerleader fan for the actual facts and the truth as documented indisputable data has established over designated time periods backed by consumer demand. Not overblown loose lip claims or falsely exaggerated wannbe bragging to make something into something it is not. Sales numbers amongst the price ocmpetitive competition almost always tells it like it really is. The buying public isn't as dumb as many various brand pushers think they are. They simply vote with their wallets year after year after year as it should be. If something sells less than the competitions there has to be a reason and the buying public seems to know the reasons. It's the very long established and proven law of supply and demand. An intelligent manufacturer does not vastly over supply beyond the actual demand as doing so will bring certain financial disaster. This has nothing to do with me! I'm only the messenger of the documented established and written facts. However, some people can't read or accept facts because perhaps they do not want to! Yes it's a thick forest but some can't see it because of all the trees. Enjoy!I for one have never bought the most popular or the one with highest sales volume of anything and my way has served me very, very well for 50 years now. JMHO.

RE: towing rpm

If this is an early 04, try running with the T/H off. This will allow it to drop into 4th and would probably net you some fuel economy. Save T/H (OD lockout) for the hills. The 04.5+ T/H allowed 4th gear operation, but 04 and older was an OD lockout feature. I don't know the specs on your FW but would at least try to pull it in OD.With reguard to the t/h mode, if I push the button I run the ops' rpm. I put my '04.5 in D and go. I very seldom push the button. I generally run 1800 rpm on the interstate with very little down shifting and 55 mph on other roads. Maybe I'm wrong... The T/H on the '04.5 is still only a lockout :? When you first enable T/H while under way, the truck will downshift to 3rd, but after a few seconds it will upshift back to 4th. Try it from a stop empty with T/H enabled, truck should go into 4th at ~45mph with light throttle. If it doesn't then I was wrong and the T/H with 4th enabled is an '05+ thing (not an '04.5+ thing). For the OP, I would still try running without T/H enabled and pulling in 4th.I don't notice mine shifting back to 4th under load. I will try what you suggested after bit when I have to go to town just to see.I tried it yesterday afternoon and it does not shift into 4th. The torque convertor locks up and it stays in 3erd. If I hit the button at speed it shift down to 3erd and torque convertor unlocks, then a few seconds later the torque convertor locks up again. Just how mine works. Others may be different. I have a Jan.'04 build date, with 325hp,600tq.

RE: Cleaning the outside of trailer

I need something I can hook to the hose and spray the trailer. My problem is that the ground around my trailer is very unlevel and I am leary of getting on a ladder to use the brush. My trailer is very tall also. It is 12 foot from ground to highest point.I use a brush that has a handle that extends that I inherited from my Dad. Not sure where he got it. No ladder needed.

RE: Anyone care to place their bet?

I would imagine once the new Ram hits the lot there will be two races going on. Who is going to be first to put the trucks head to head lugging a 20,000 lb RV up the mountain and secondly who's going to get to the top of the mountain first. I'll say Pickuptrucks.com is going to be first to determine that Chevy is still King of the Mountain. If I replace my truck in 2014 I will have a hard time trying to decide which way to go.I don't care. Just my $.02 worth.

RE: Wrap head of anode rod with masking tape for socket

I use black vinyl electrical tape to hold things like the anode rod. Little screws on power window motors, etc. It's also good for an old flex socket that droops when you're trying to reach it in onto a fastener. A wrap around the flex joint part of it holds it straight till it's on, then flexes when the socket needs to. Back to topic... I doubt the teflon tape succeeds in totally isolating the rod from the tank. But I can say that I do tape the rod, and the rod still erodes.I use tape and mine erodes too.

RE: Almost made a huge mistake

I wonder why my dad carried 16,000# plates on his 1ton Dodges from 1961 thru the 1983 that he used for business and never broke or bent anything? And yes they often grossed close to that. My dodge, I had 26,000 plates....for hauling RVs commercially. ;)His wasn't commercial though. His truck and trailer plates together were only 25k. Besides no scales out here in the country away from interstates.

RE: Advice on Sizing truck Requested

Speaking of ride quality, our Ram Dually really rides nice empty. Friends that ride with us that have ridden in other trucks always comment on how amazed they are with the ride of our Ram. Ours is our daily driver, we call it the Limo!Maybe this is why the payload is so low that everyone complains about on a Dodge. Low payload equals soft spring equal soft ride.:)

RE: Cord rubbing on tailgate

I put my plug in the bed... Right behind the left taillight. Easy stuff. It came as a "T" setup to tie into the back of the under bumper plug. I bought it on Etrailer.com with free shipping...about 45$. I like having the cord safe.I haul to much loose material, sand, mulch, etc to have one in the bed. I would beat it up or contaminate it.
