RE: East to west
Roughly paralleling I-90 from New York to Chicago is US20. Quite scenic in parts (the finger lakes, etc) There are bypass routs around most of the cities along its route.
RE: Sunset Bay St Park, OR coast
Sunset Bay has easy access from the campgroung to the bay (Sunset Bay)
The beach is accessed by walking from the campground , through a small pedestrian tunnel, to the beach area.
Other areas (Shore Acres S and Cape Arago SP) can be accessed by trail or road.
A 9 hole golf course is adjacent to the park.
RE: Oregon and Washington Coast Camping in August
There are several State Park Campgrounds that are first come,first served on the Oregon Coast....If you stop early in the day Sunday-Friday you can usually get a spot.
Among these sites are.... Loeb Park (9 miles east of Brookings), Humbug Mountain
State Park, Cape Blanco State Park, Umpqua LightHouse SP, Carl Washburn SP and others.
Interstate 80 in the west
Has anyone traveled on I-80 from San Francisco to Reno in the past few months? Is there still construction and narrowed lanes between Truckee, CA and Reno?
