RE: China Bombs Got Me

Do you get any discount for your promotion of LT tires? Just Sayin!
Unlike FastEagle, I will answer your question.
That would be a big fat NO!!!!!!! The only thing I promote is the discontinued use of junk Chinese ST tires. And, when I buy tires I get no discount.
Oh, and what is you're discount on Carlisle Tires?

RE: China Bombs Got Me

So, my math adds up at least 22 tires in 10 years and 25 if you count the spare tire also. That sound like a lot of tires going to the landfill. If you had switched to a quality LT tire you would most likely only be on your second set by now.
Lets see, 8 tires versus 22 tires?
But then again, if you are getting your tires at a deep, deep, deep special discount for your active promotion of ST tires, then the $$$'s don't really matter.
Just sayin,

RE: Sylvan Pass & Bear Tooth Hwy

There is a big pullout area a little after you go over the top northbound. It has a trail out to the edge of the mountain/cliff wit a fantastic view. There is also a parking area at the top with 360 deg views. Traffic isn't too bad unless you encounter a large slow moving vehicle or RV. Chances are that you may see some motorcycles that probably will be moving much faster than the autos. Last time I was through there was on my motorcycle on July 14th 2010 an it was cold with some patches of snow still on the ground.

RE: Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone

40' sites are a problem at Fishing Bridge. There just aren't very many of them. They are at the end of the rows so there are just a few. Odds are that by now most all have been booked. Unfortunately, this is a destination that must be booked really really early if you are in need of the larger sites.
Keep checking and calling, you might get lucky.

RE: Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone

While I understand you're desire for creature comforts at the campground, that is not what most people desire in a visit to Yellowstone.
We usually show up with a full pantry. While in the area, we make stops in Cody and sometimes in Jackson for any resupply items needed. We cook very nice meals in our RV and have little need for restaurants. We usually pack and take our lunch with us. After dinner at the RV, we usually head out for animal viewing until dark. Then it's off to bed for some rest before the next days activities.
In our view, West Yellowstone is a tourist trap. If that is what you like, great. There must be a reason most of the campgrounds inside the park are completely full most of the time.

RE: Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone

About the only regret you will have is that 4 days isn't nearly enough time in Yellowstone. You will be able to see most of the highlights, but to truly see and enjoy the park one needs 1-2 weeks. Enjoy your stay and begin thinking about your next trip to Yellowstone.
Fishing Bridge RV is not a place to just hang out at your camp site. It is a little tight but most don't have any problems. Most of your time will be spent away from the campground. Plan on taking your lunch with you or plan on buying something at one of the visitor centers.
Enjoy your time there,

RE: Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone

Nearly everyone who needs cell service leave the park to get it
This statement is about as wrong as you could get. While cell service is not available in the Fishing Bridge campground, there is service nearby just to the east and at Canyon Village area.
To top that off, anyone saying that West Yellowstone is closer to the attractions is once again wrong. It is outside the park and one must drive back and forth through the animal jams each day.
Yellowstone is huge and requires much patience in driving around.

RE: OTR trucks drifting into your lane

For the most part, all the truckers we see are quite courteous. We have had a few close calls mostly with FedEx trucks. They always seem to be in a hurry. Now, when I see one coming up from behind, I make it a point to give them plenty of room.

RE: Another Tire Problem Waiting To Happen

What a pointless thread!
What a pointless post!!!!!!
I started this thread just to vent about bad dealers and manufacturers that set RV'rs up for failure with the running gear they put on rigs. Hopefully, someone will read this and check for these problems before they go out an lay down a bunch of money only to end up on the side of the road with blowouts and coach damage.

RE: Shady Acres - Mobile, AL

We were there for a couple of nights this past fall while sightseeing in the Mobile area.
The campground sits under a lot of oak trees that were dropping acorns continually. The sites are on a bit of a sloping ground but fairly level and the roads are a bit tight. Overall, it was adequate, but if we return to Mobile we'll look for another campground. The place seemed a little run down.

RE: Beartooth Highway with DP & toad

I was over that road in 2010 on a motorcycle. From Yellowstone to the top of Beartooth pass is not that big of an issue, a few switchbacks near the top but none that would be a problem. However, the other side(north) is quite steep and has many very tight hairpin switchbacks. You would probably be using up both lanes to get around them. Good brakes are a necessity and watching out for oncoming traffic. There will most likely be some motorcycles traveling much faster than the rest of traffic, so be careful.

RE: Another Tire Problem Waiting To Happen

Do your neighbor a favor and point out that =uneven= wear is worse than even wear. Also, do your best to convince him to upgrade the tires to LTs or G-rated, if at all possible. Sounds like a problem just waiting to hatch. FWIW, my dealer, who was a friend for nearly 20 years before I bought my FW from him, never mentioned the speed rating on the tires. I only towed > 65 a few times anyway, as I simply could never afford that much diesel. :-)
Lyle
I already did make those suggestions. One can only hope they listened. I told them that they should look at some XPS Rib's.

Another Tire Problem Waiting To Happen

So, the young couple down the street showed up Friday wit a new to them 5th wheel. It is a 2012 Elkridge that must be at least 37 feet long. They purchased it as a used unit but looks to be in pretty good shape.
The rig has a GVWR of #14400 running on #6000 axels and the usual ST tires. The right rear already is showing signs of axle problems as the outside rib is mostly scrubbed down. It could be alignment or a bent spindle. I mentioned to them that the tires will be a problem and that they have a 65mph max speed rating. They said that the dealer never mentioned anything about that and said that they would talk to a friend at Discount Tire.
They plan on using is quite a bit going from here in Albuquerque to Phoenix and often to the mountains in Colorado.
Here's hoping that they get some better tires before they are stuck on the road somewhere. Once again the dealers and manufactures have set up another RV'er for a bunch of headaches.

RE: Different Tires

Any tire in RV trailer service that is operated beyond its design limits will ultimately fail.
FastEagle
Then why do so many that are operated within their design limits also fail?
Keith
That is hearsay!
FE
Sorry FE, but you are wrong on this one.
Just my experience alone will prove that. All four tires failed at 2.5 years and 6,000 miles with tread separations. The tires were never overloaded, never run over 65mph and always inflated to max pressure. I'm sure that this is not the only case.

RE: GreenBall ST load Range F tires vs. LT tires

FE's regulation says should not shall, there is a huge difference there. Should is a suggestion and shall is a requirement.
The quoted regulation if for in-use inspection. The reality is that there are no in-use inspections out there. This is basically an unenforceable useless regulation.
FE will try anything to sell more ST tires!!!!!

RE: GreenBall ST load Range F tires vs. LT tires

FE loves to play the "poor me" card when the thread turns against him. However, he is most often the one who initiates the hostilities. His tactics have changed over the years, but it is painfully obvious that his goal is to intimidate RV'ers to continue using that which has just failed them.
My introduction to FE came some 4 years ago when out of the blue he attacked me for installing Michelin RIBs on the 5er we had at the time. He called me every name in the book without knowing what the specific details of my rig were, 6k axles with wheels rated for 3042# on a rig with a GVWR of 12400#. Needless to say, they worked perfectly and are still on the rig being used by the new owners.
When will the operators of these forums ever shut down his continuing TIRE SHILL operation? It's impossible to believe that anyone would continue to support such an inferior product without some type of monetary compensation.

RE: Yellowstones Fishing Bridge Camp Ground

So, what are you going to Yellowstone for, hang out in the campground or see and experience the park? If it's the first, then perhaps one of the commercial campgrounds outside the park will do. If it's the second, then staying inside the park should be seriously considered.
There are many campgrounds in the park and one that has full hook ups, Fishing Bridge. They are all more than acceptable as a home base for experiencing the park. You won't spend much time there as there is so much to do and see.
There are plenty of services inside the park. Fuel and limited groceries are there if it isn't convenient to make a run out of the park. Fishing Bridge has pay showers and laundry.
It's your choice, pay more and drive more while staying outside the park or get more of the national park experience staying inside. What you really miss staying outside are the evening ranger programs, wildlife viewing at sunset and on and on.
