RE: 2.7 L 5 cylinder engine in Great West Sprinter Elite RV van

Hi! We are very new to the RV world. :) We are looking to buy this beautiful 2007 Great West Sprinter Elite van with a 2.7L 5 cylinder engine. Has anyone had any problems with this particular year and model, particularly with the engine? I would appreciate any input you may have. This will be our only means of transportation as we venture out from the South for about two years. We would love to hear about your experiences with your Great West Sprinter Elite RV van! :) I's not a 2007 Chassis it's a 2006 or earlier. Sprinter went to the NEW 6 cld. engine in 2007. MUCH more power, better all around vehicle the 2007

RE: 2013 Winnebago ERA Model 70A Twin Bed

"Wonder why the change from heat pump" Money, Money and oh yes, money :) The new AC unit is the NEW Coleman Mac 8 low power. MY guess is that they want to stay one step ahead. This new unit hasn't even hit the market yet http://rvcomfort.com/rvp/products/240volt/mach8.php The Mach 8 is the LOWEST profile in the Industry standing short at 21 cm tall. Lower profile means LESS DRAG and improved fuel efficiency. Two motors means The MACH 8 DELIVERS the same high BTUs of cooling on both high and low speed operation. HIGHEST air flow delivery on high speed, and ULTRA QUIET on low speed for night time cooling. Industry EXCLUSIVE - molded one piece fiberglass base pan provides excellent durability with reduced weight Backward compatible with any Coleman Mach air conditioner, and installs easily from the roof for ducted top down mounted systems Operates even at desert conditions of 48.5 C Has the LARGEST BTU resistance heater of any RV air conditioner Another Quality Coleman®-Mach® air conditioner - 5,000,000 units and counting. All built in our Wichita, KS factory. Airxcel’s Coleman-Mach RV air conditioners, which Airxcel and its predecessor company, RV Products, have been making since 1967. While in town, Airxcel — also known for its Suburban-brand furnaces, ranges, cooktops and water heaters — was also talking up a new series of low-profile, Coleman-Mach 8 air conditioners. The Coleman-Mach 8, due for a spring introduction, is only eight inches high. And it’s not only the new air conditioner’s size that 950-employee Airxcel is promoting, but also the fact that it – unlike some of its newest competitors – is domestically made. “We never went to China,” said Briglio, whose firm operates manufacturing facilities in Wichita, Dayton, Tenn., and Cordele, Ga. “We build everything (in terms of air conditioners) in Wichita, Kan., and we’re proud of it. Coleman has a good name – the Coleman-Mach air conditioner and Suburban products – and we are from the United States of America.”

RE: FEMALE Solo Musician - ??? on Class B Van for FULL TIME?

Let me see, single girl 30 yo, parking who knows where in who knows what town - what could go wrong there? Facts are, you're a SINGLE WOMAN, in a sick society. I understand your young ambition and naivete, heck we all had it. Look, if it was 1969, I would say GO FOR IT, but that fact is we are now living in a sick world, with creeps stacked three high on every corner waiting for opportunities. Yes Virginia, there is a boogy man, and he's everywhere. Finding and paying for a class B or Class C is the least of your problems. Take karate lessons and take a shooting coarse, buy a gun and then think about this new phase of life.

RE: 2013 Winnebago ERA Model 70A Twin Bed

The no more decals was because people that live in home owner communities won't let people park "Motor homes" in the driveway. The no decals can mask the motorhome and seem let a Srinter Van park there. Wonder why the change from heat pump

RE: 2013 Winnebago ERA Model 70A Twin Bed

Just was at a local ERA dealer. Even they are having a backlog. Orders are back at least five months from WGO. Winnebago is putting a hurt on the competition with its prices. Just today, Roadtrek is offering a solar array for no cost with new models. Share the changes please

RE: Why class B's cost more than some C's?

For me it's all about USABILITY. The Class B can be used almost as a limo, with a fridge etc. The Class C and A is a logistic hassle to get prepped for the road. The class B can be ready in minutes like jumping in the car. No parking problems, no toad needed, etc. All around it's like using a walkman instead of a Boom BOX. Strictly convince. factor

RE: 2013 Winnebago ERA Model 70A Twin Bed

Still 2K off the already discount isn't worth it. Think about it, for the extra 2K plus and increase for the 2014 ( I heard it's only $800.00 more for the 14 ) You can drive the 14 for 21 moths SELL IT and you'd be selling in in 2014. 10K or even 5K would have been worth it

bobojay5 any other feedback on the ERA, I'm waiting for the 2014 in a few weeks. They say ONLY two colors for 2014. Black or Silver, with NO DECALS.

RE: Pleasure-Way Tops in Canadian Class B Sales

Here's my question, how are the two top Canadian manufacturers justifying 40K more for their Class B's over the Winnebago. I understand craftsmanship, better material etc. but really 40K MORE. There is no way it makes and sense to me. If someone can straighten me out it would be appreciated.

RE: Roadtrek introduces the RS E-TREK

I can repeat what a Mercedes Sprinter engineer straight from Germany told me at the 2010 Winnebago GNR Rally during a question & answer session. He said one of the worst things you can do to the V6 engine in this vehicle is to let it idle for more than 10 minutes at a time without driving it for a few miles. It clogs up the EGR & DPF systems which can lead to a CEL and a Limp Home Mode episode which would require a trip to a dealer to remedy. The Engineer can say what he wants, I'm living with my Sprinter EVERY day, Every day I wait at My child's School and IDLE the vehicle with the air conditioning on. Timing wise it better to wait than drive home and drive back to the school since I'm already near the school at quitting time. It get 100 plus degrees starting shortly and lasts till Sept. Air conditioning is Mandatory, running the engine is mandatory. Winter I need the heat on engine running Could I do other things in that hour and NOT idle the engine, sure but I get work done, read and listen to the radio, it's my quite time. The vehicle has never gone to limp mode, fuel mileage has increased the more miles I put on it, It runs smoother today that when it was new. Any Mercedes Engineer that wants to take my engine apart is welcomed to it. Id I count the hours that I have idled average 180 school days, take away some day day that I don't idle, let's say 150 days. I figure about 750 HOURS of idle time - give or take. Engineers can say it, but I'm living it. I figure engineers saying it is a legal ploy. Sorta like all the warnings on cigarettes, manufactures saying if you don't use their oil, their4 fluids, their filters, your car will fall apart etc. etc. BUNK. I don't use Mercedes filters, use whatever oil I feel like, including Shell, Mobil, AMSOIL which Mercedes refused to recognize as an oil because AMSOIL won't play their game. Here's some good info http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WUOhqqyu3RY

RE: Roadtrek introduces the RS E-TREK

I think we can put this Idle thing to rest. I have a 2007 Sprinter and I Idle it 5 days a week for up to an hour and have done so since 2007 when I purchased my Sprinter NEW. Now have nearly 90K on it ans she runs like new, in fact better than new, and last week I got 26mpg on my last trip. It's always AMAZING how people can pick one thing out on any vehicle that some maybe a few people have had problems with and then that is the ONLY thing they discuss about that vehicle.

RE: New Class B Models

"van dies when turned sharp right" MB already put a hole in the roof for their AC units. I know, mines been leaking since new. For me the HUGE bathroom is the reason I will be getting this beauty. The biggest draw back for me has always been the bathroom. Did you see the size of that bathroom IT WAS AMAZING. A lot of people use B's as comfy road vehicles with amenities, not so much for sleeping although they are quite capable of sleeping and even full timing. BUT, for the person liking a road vehicle with great amenities who sleeps in a hotel room almost as much as the van, the bathroom is a huge seller IMHO. I was this close getting a Winnebago. Looks like I need to dust off the check book.

RE: Running your generator

We use a French press to make coffee. Once you get the formula down you can make coffee with a microwave in a hotel room, boiled water on the stove, or anywhere you get hot water. By the way hot water is free everywhere I have ever stayed. This way I avoid all generator problems in the morning.

RE: New sprinter dealer

The Sprinter has a Mercedes engine. Many Dodge dealers still service Sprinters also, but limited (I think) to the older models that they once sold. I still get solicited regularly by two local Dodge dealers for me to bring in my Sprinter for service. Well that's true, but the caveat is they are not as good as the Mercedes Dealer. I have a 2007 Sprinter which was bought as a Dodge. I have always taken it to Dodge for service, but lately they seem less and less "Sprinter" friendly. I had the tranny fluid changed at 50K and it was just not the same as it was prior to the change. I suspected a less than Mercedes qualified fluid. After 25K miles I couldn't stand it any more. I took it to a Mercedes dealer and got true Mercedes fluids. I was stunned how smooth and back to normal the tranny ran. I called the Dodge dealer for a specific part he said he couldn't find it and would call me back - 24 hours later they called back and said they couldn't find it. I called Mercedes and got the part and number while I was on the phone with the parts dept. No, no more Dodge service for me. Think about it, why would Dodge keep inventory of Mercedes fluids for a limited number of Mercedes fluid requests. I'm sure they just dumped in some generic tranny fluid and could care less how my vehicle ran. Funny thing was both tranny changes cost the same amount. Oh one last thing. At the Dodge dealer when you sit in the waiting room, you get old magazines and bad TV and two coin op candy machines. In the Mercedes waiting room you get fresh pastries, several types of coffee, fresh fruit, baked cookies, ice bottled water, several newspapers, large screen LED TV.....and it's all free, well I know I'm paying for it in the long run, but still free at the counter.

RE: Do You Ever Get Claustrophobic In Your B?

If you want to feel Claustrophobic try a truck camper. It was fine at first then it just hit me - I got Claustrophobic in it one night. In the bed you cant's sit up because of the height of the one I had. I sold it the next week. Claustrophobia is weird. I never had it, and didn't feel it in the truck camper, then that one night I felt like someone was smothering me. So, having said that, you may get a B and all is fine then WHAMO, it's no longer fine.

RE: Sprinters: Freightliner, Dodge, MB - what's the difference?

All made by Mercedes,BUT a huge difference on who repairs it and what the quality of that service is. Because Dodge and Mercedes divorced, any "Dodge Sprinter" prior to 2010 will be treated like a red headed step child with Mercedes. Freightliner is stable from inception till today as they came in as Freightliners and are still Freightliners. I have a 2007 Sprinter and get lousy service from Dodge. When my roof leaked they played the "it's Mercedes fault they built it" Mercedes said " It's Dodge's responsibility because you bought a Dodge" Also, last time I took it to a Dodge dealer for Mercedes approved fluids and a tranny flush I think they dumped in whatever they had because after the flush the tranny shifted strange. A lot of chatter and rough gripping on slow downs. I put up with it for 25K miles and took it to a Mercedes dealer for real Mercedes fluids, and all was back to normal. It shifts smooth and all anomalies are gone. NEVER again will I go to a Dodge dealer.

RE: Genny during storm power outage

I'm thinking the refrigerator sensed the 112 power and would not kick in and demanded 115, min / 120. The computer in the refrigerator sensed the 112 and said NOPE NOT GONNA RUN. The fan on the other hand has no computer to indicate power, it just ran S-L-O-W-L-Y because it was only getting 112. Secondly drawing power over long lengths does effect equipment. Also I would perhaps suspect the 112 reading. Was it REALLY 112 or was it 11.2? The fan would run like you indicated on 11.2 VOLTS, but should run nearly the same as 115/120 volts.

RE: '06 Sprinter? Or '07 Sprinter?

I had an '07 Roadtrek built on an '06 chassis. Got 23mpg and loved it until the resonator went out twice. I traded it for a '11 View with the corner bed, dual wheels, lots storage, etc. I hated the way the View drove and the fact I could not use it for a second vehicle and park it where I wanted like I could the Roadtrek. After trying to sell it for 6 months or so, I took a loss and traded it for another Roadtrek. I love it! So glad to be back in a B! Point being--drive both types before you decide. See this is why we are all here. You can't buy this kind of feed back. The one line " and the fact I could not use it for a second vehicle and park it where I wanted " says it all. There is so much to be said about size.
