RE: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......

We left Valdez this morning and are at the Mountain View CG in Palmer tonight. Will move on to Anchorage tomorrow and will be at the Golden Nugget for a few days. We are meeting friends and will be waiting for mail so not sure how long we will be there. We sailed on the Lulu Belle yesterday, what a great experience! Thanks to everyone who recommended it. We saw two "Roll Callers" in one morning, no more since then but we have met some great folks.

RE: Cassiar Highway Recent Driving

In response to your question: We turned onto the Cassiar Highway at 3:15 pm (PDT) last Friday (June 7th) and intersected with the Alcan at 3:00 pm last Monday (June 10th). The road was fine. There were ocassional bumps, potholes, and graveled spots but no problem at all for our truck and TT. It was worse from Jade City to the Alcan which probably makes southbound traffic uneasy, but its gets better. The area that was flooded has been repaired. It is a beautiful road and we loved every minute of it. lizzie

RE: Dumb question alert. Can I use 15 amp power?

Yes you can. We have done it several times this week on the Alcan. One of the CG's gave us an excellent list of what 15amp service will and will not run. I am saving it for future reference, Basically almost anything that heats up something else is iffy (hair driers, toasters, coffee makers, heaters, microwaves) as well as air conditioners. We can use one appliance at a time, either the toaster OR the coffee maker. We can also use the lights, water pump, and refrigerator. Be sure and find out where the breaker box is located so that you can switch the power back on if you overload it. Just be careful and don't try to power everything at once. lizzie

RE: Suggestions for an RV park in Anchorage?

Our friends in Anchorage have asked around and the Golden Nugget appears to be the best choice for us. Eagle River is said to be nicer but further away. Thanks for all the help. lizzie

RE: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......

We met two of the "Roll-Callers" today. Yukiroad and DKLOSE. Debbie & Juan were camped at Yukon RV, we met Don & Susan at a gas station in Whitehorse but they are also camped at Cottonwood RV tonight. We also ran into a couple at the museum that we met on the Salmon Glacier road a few days ago. This is a big country and it is fun to see folks you "almost" know. lizzie

Suggestions for an RV park in Anchorage?

We will be visiting friends in Anchorage next week. The reviews don't look so good for the RV parks there. Any suggestions? We have a 22' TT so don't need a lot of room. lizzie

RE: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......

We are at Dease Lake on the Cassiar Highway. Will be heading north to the junction with the ALCAN this morning. Thinking about trying for Whitehorse tonight. Remember that we chave a blue canoe on top of the truck. Makes us easy to spot. lizzie

RE: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......

We are just ahead of Two Hands. Spent last night at Dave's RV in Vanderhoof and are now at Bear River RV in Stewart. We went to Rainey Creek Municipal CG but it was closed. No signs or anything, just a rope across the entrance. We have loved the scenery the past two days but are ready for a rest, so will probably stay here a day or so. Then we will be back on the Cassier headed north. lizzie

RE: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......

We are in Sparks NV waiting for our mail. We will get new truck tires tomorrow and hope to leave on Thursday. It will be at least two weeks before we get to Alaska. Hope everyone is having fun. lizzie

RE: Location in Florida

Steinhatchee had one brief shining moment as the drug trafficking capitol of the Gulf coast. The bales were floating around like gulls. Lots of big fancy houses were built then were ReCo'ed by the government and sat empty for years. It has now reverted back to a sleepy fishing village. Personally I would prefer to be either further north. Two months in Steinhatchee might get a little old. lizzie

RE: Making the Bed

Use a bottom sheet with elastic all the way around. If you can't buy one, make one. Carefully fit the elasticized sheet on the foot of the bed. Crawl on your hands and knees to the head of the bed. Pull the sheet up. Opps, must have put it on sideways. Crawl back to the foot. Turn the sheet and crawl to the top again. Try to fit the elasticized sheet over the left front corner. Crawl back to the bottom and go to the bathroom to find a nail file to repair your broken fingernails. Crawl to the top again, try to pull the sheet to fit the right corner while still kneeling on it. Back carefully away. When the sheet comes loose at one of the top corners, repeat process. If you are very persistant you will eventually have a smooth bottom sheet except for the knee prints. Throw a comforter or sleeping bag over the whole thing and go hiking. lizzie

RE: Reno NV to Rosslands (Lake Christina)BC on 395?

What I really need is advice on the best way to get from where I am (Sparks),across the border and headed for Prince George BC. Is I-5 still a viable option? Should I take I-5 to US 97 and go north there? It looks as if 395 will be longer and much slower. Thanks so much, lizzie

RE: Anybody using Stable Lifts?

We had a Stable Lift on our TC and liked it very much. We ordered it and installed it with the help of a friend, but it wasn't easy! We were traveling to Glacier NP in a few months anyway so we arranged to take it to the factory for adjustments. Those guys were terrific! We often put our lifts down even if we were not taking the camper off, made it very steady in high winds. There was less of a problem with uneven ground than with the usual legs and it was easy on and easy off for a couple of senior citizens. When I advertised the TC for sale, had more customers than I needed and the presence of the Stable Lift was a big draw. It was expensive but was worth it to us. lizzie

RE: Things I really like.

The hangers are called Huggable Hangers and I ordered them from the Container Store. They come in several colors, have a non-slip finish, are 1/4 inch wide and are very light and strong. The Value Pack costs $19.95 and includes 14 shirt hangers, 10 suit hangers, 6 finger clips (for holding skirts, ec.) and "cascade hooks" (for attaching one hanger to another). You can also order them individually. As you can tell, I am sold on them. lizzie

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2013

We get lots of comments about our signs, but no meet-ups yet. We did meet a couple in TX that were traveling to Alaska from Florida. We camped in the same state parks (in three states) on three nights but they went to Santa Fe when we went to Chaco Canyon. Hope to see them again.

RE: Reno NV to Rosslands (Lake Christina)BC on 395?

Thanks everybody. We are sitting down tonight to study the maps and make a decision. You have suggested some alternatives that I had not considered. lizzie
