RE: Honda Extended Run Tanks

Do you have the aux tank ventilated? If it gets pressurized it could cause a leak.

RE: Where's the full body paint?

My Newmar (in sig below) has full body paint and is almost 7 years old. It looks great with only a few chips, no visible fading and no sign of clear coat cracking, and it hasn't been waxed in almost two years or washed in six months. If buying new, I may not spend the extra for paint, but I bought this one used. Marv

RE: Time of year to sell a motor home?

I would expect it to depend on the price, location and type of mh. There seem to be two groups of buyers - the snowbirds and the weekenders/vacationers. The snowbirds tend to buy in the fall and the weekenders/vacationers in the spring. You may want to aim your rig at the appropriate market, if you can determine one. However, the As tend to sell any time of the year, partly because they are used by both groups. Selling a mh is probably more based on finding the right buyer and having a very fair (low) price than on any particular time of year. When you advertise, be sure to show LOTS of pictures and have an extensive write up with plenty of details. You will have plenty of competition. Marv

RE: Truck Stop Etiquette

I don't use the car or rv pumps because they are too tight for maneuvering and too slow pumping. I'm over 60' long and usually take on 150-200 gallons (hold 300 gal). I always used the truck islands with my previous dpmhs and certainly do with my current truck and fiver. I absolutely follow the truckers' etiquette and have never had a problem. Just don't dally. If I had a small trailer and pickup, I'd stay out of the truck islands. Marv

RE: Bicycle Covers

We bought a cheap plastic tarp, folded it in half and made a bag out of it. It fits over both bicycles and we hold it down with bungie cords. The bicycles and our scooter ride right behind the cab on the truck.

RE: Laws regarding a firearm in an RV?

There is some confusion about the difference in laws concerning hand guns, automatic/semi-automatic weapons, assault weapons, etc. vs hunting guns. I don't know of a problem most places with having a hunting rifle or shotgun in your home. Not all states consider an rv a home (even if it is your fulltime and only residence), but consider it a vehicle. So you have to look into the laws of each state you are considering. If our constitution is changed to make gun possession illegal, the first place they will go is to those who hold concealed weapons permits and hunting licenses, and our constitution has already been changed significantly. If I owned a gun, I certainly wouldn't tell anyone. Lots to think about on this subject. Marv

RE: Is this your truck?

That's mild - I've seen quite a few of them with big dual stacks. I took the stack off my truck and installed a weedburner. Just personal preference. Marv

RE: Inside Privacy Curtain or Outside Windshield Cover for MH

While not currently a C owner, we've had As, a B and a C; and now a fiver. All the mhs had inside privacy curtains, but we put outside sunscreens on several As and on our current fiver and truck. The sunscreens allow you to look out during daylight, but they also block most of the sun and heat from getting inside. We like having both. We don't cover any windows with opaque material, just sunscreen. Marv

RE: What Jack Do You Carry?

Two 8 ton bottle jacks and two screw top 6 ton jack stands. I want to be sure nothing slips off a jack.

RE: thoughts

Your minivan is likely rated to tow up to 3,500#. A pup should be well under that. With a WDH and tranny cooler, you should be alright. Just look at how much you load in the minivan when towing so you don't overload the minivan. Marv

RE: Is a 08 to old???

That's a good question, because its right at the point where there could be warranty issues with problems that haven't yet been found. I think I would rather find a gently-used well-maintained one of the same age. It probably has the bugs out and been adequately exercised. The used rig probably will sell for less too, making it a better choice. Marv

RE: Tech support and tips column

I never thought about the ad blocker. That's probably why I don't see it. I think I'll just leave it that way too. Thanks, Marv

RE: Tech support and tips column

I only noticed it when I read a post about it. Now I see the heading over an empty column but nothing more. Is the reason I can't see any of the tips related to my software or hardware? I'm using Safari on a iMac G5. I'm not particularly computer literate. Marv

RE: Turbo charge a gasser really cheap!?

I'm very doubtful this is true. To move 230 cuft/sec (13,800cfm) would require a very large blower, probably much larger than a bilge blower for a typical recreational power boat. If it was 230cfm it is below the needs of a large engine and would have very low pressure. Supercharging an engine increases power but decreases mpg. Too many inconsistencies in the story. Marv

RE: Worst case scenario...a cautionary tale

Sorry for your bad experience! Have you talked to the dealer about it? Did you buy the rig "as is"? You might have recourse if you can show the dealer had knowledge of the defect and failed to tell you. The statement "as is" doesn't necessarily relieve the dealer of the responsibility for telling you of known significant problems, especially problems involving hazardous conditions. The word "mold" can get lots of attention in a lawsuit. Much depends on the sale contract and conditions, as well as state and local laws. I am not a lawyer; just had a bad experience. A lawsuit is a horrible experience and often causes more pain and expense than its worth. You are probably best off if you just go ahead and fix it, and you can keep it in your memory banks. RE: Plug or unplug

Until I put a diode in the 12V from the truck, it would keep the dash instruments lighted when plugged in to the fiver. The diode allows the alternater to charge the fiver batteries but the fiver charger won't try to charge the truck's batteries (4 Group 27s). I usually leave truck and fiver plugged together for quick overnights when I don't unhook. For longer periods, I always unplug. Marv

RE: crank-open roof vent is broken.

I've had several vents break over the years. It has always been what you describe. I fixed them each time by taking them apart and reinstalling the split pin that holds the gear in place. The split pin just works itself loose and drops out of place. Its a quick, easy free fix. Marv

RE: Does anyone know the weight of mirror closet doors?

It depends on the size of the doors, but you could probably take out more weight by removing half the clothing behind the doors. I think my doors weigh around 40# each. I've had to put one back on the track several times, and it wasn't very heavy - just awkward. Replacing the closet doors seems a drastic measure for little gain, and it degrades the interior. RE: Is a GMC 3500 enough for a 18,500# Teton

I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you my personal experience. I started pulling my fiver (in sig below) with a 2002 F550 w/7.3PSD, Keldermann air ride, 22K air hitch, 19.5" wheels, and more. It was an Eclipse conversion (Thoroughbred Hauler) so should have done a great job. WRONG!!! I got towed off the road three times in 18 months due to transmission problems. Braking and long downhills (even with exhaust brake) were not comfortable. It labored hard pulling the Rocky Mtn passes. When you mention Teton 39', I just automatically think class 6 or 7 truck. That trailer can weigh up to 20,000#. JMHO Marv

RE: Why Would I Want a Bread Machine?

We quit carrying our bread machine around in the fiver because it didn't get used enough. We also carried around a table scroll saw and drill press because DW used it in her crafts, but a new hobby came along and they went into storage too. When we look at our storage unit we see almost 10 years of "used tos" that became "must gos". They'll all come out again if we get a house. Marv
