RE: San Miguel de Allende to Lo de Marcos?

I just got back last night from Lo de Marcos...I live in SMA..I am an ex RV"er so know the ropes I did this journey in my car..we left LDM at 10am yesterday morning and arrived in SMA at 6.30pm....this included about 40 mins of total breaks for pit stops and stretching..it cost me 730 pesos for my car....the road into LDM is fine just take your time...the worst stretch of road is from LDM past Compistela where it is windy and hilly after you get on the Autopista it is a breeze..going through Guadalajara just take the main road through the city not the perifico real easy...hope this helps Les

trip report Douglas to San Miguel de Allende

Even though i am not an Rv'er any more i sold my beloved Ramona last month I am still an active member and now relocating to SMA here is a few notes on my trip down and please remember this is in a VW gof and not an RV. I arrived at Douglas crossing on Sunday at 6am and as the Church's mention in their book parking is doable but tight for big units..no one waiting and it took me 15 minutes to get my Visa and vehicle permit the lady was very helpful. no problems....given the gren light and not stopped or searched. The road to Chihuawa(sorry spelling) was on a good paved road a bit twisty and hilly but well maintained and after one hour it was great toll roads. About 90 minutes this side of Chih i lost sattelite reception and got it back just before i entered town ..getting through was easy and then good toll roads.....the first night I stayed in a hotel outside of Torreon and the first day i went through 10 tolls for a total of 7oo pesos....i went through 4 military heckpoints and got waved through each...forgot to mention after the border crossing about 45 min utes in there is a checkpoint where a lady examines your Vin No and papers. Monday i was on the road by 6am and all the way past leon beautfiful toll roads very easy driiving and i arrived in SMA at 3pm a real easy drive for me in my car today was 7 more tolls and a cost of 400 pesos the more check points and waved through. I saw no signs of unrest and evryone very friendly in stores and pemex..gas 10.54 per litre and i saw exactly No Rv's whole whole way. Hope this may be of interest to at least one of you cheers Les
