RE: WD front end is light

how much is too much angle or too many washers? The hitch head is designed to limit how many washers and how much angle you can achieve. You can't have "too much" in the respect of exceeding the capability of the hitch itself. "Too much" would be if you overload the front axle, or lift so much weight off the rear axle that you start having traction problems. That said, 60lbs on the front is not going to cure your problem. More investigation is necessary to find out what the real issue is.

RE: The road ate my cable ;-(

You want a weatherproof "junction box" not a terminal strip. Look them up on etrailer.com

RE: Good Tires

It's not a "truck camper thing." Are you exceeding the weight limit on the tires? OR Are you exceeding the weight limit on the truck? The answer is: BOTH! The rear axle weight rating on your truck is the same as the combined tire weight rating. In your case you are exceeding both. You need to get tires with a higher weight capacity, or lighten the load.

RE: my springs are flat

Spring shop can work wonders, cheap. A buddy of mine has a GMC Canyon. Bought it used. I always thought it sat a little low, and it would sag badly in the rear with even just 100lbs in the bed. He took a closer look recently and saw the springs were flattened out. Local spring shop recurved the springs and added a leaf to each side for a little over $300. It sits about 4" higher now. He used to need a 5" rise shank to tow a small 4x8 enclosed trailer level. Now he's using a straight shank. Drives better. Rides better. Pricing out the parts, he couldn't replace the springs with new OEM for what he paid. Plus he got an upgrade in capacity.

RE: Cold vs. hot tire pressure

Interesting that the only useful answer (so far) came from another TC owner. Explain to me why this is NOT a "useful answer:" When you didn't have the dashboard readout did the tires run cooler? In other words, before tire pressure monitoring, the tires were *STILL* hitting 92PSI. You were blissfully ignorant of the fact and had thousands of miles of happy travels under your belt with no problems. What is different now that you know the tire pressure? The only difference is, you know the pressure. It's no different than it was before. It was fine before. It is fine now.

RE: What are u or would you use to tow this 26 Tbud trailer..

No, other buyers are going to look at the HD package and say, "What the heck is THAT? It has SEVEN lug nuts! My wheels won't work!" Typical non-HD 15-series (aka 1/2 ton) trucks generally have 1200-1500lbs of payload capacity. You have 700lbs of family, plus 800+lbs of DRY tongue weight. Right there without even doing real numbers (that are ALWAYS heavier), you've maxxed out your best possible payload capacity. You haven't even loaded the camper to camp yet, which will add 200+ to the tongue weight! Plus the weight of the WD hitch counts too. Get the HD package. You will be glad you did.

RE: 12v electric.

If you couldn't get the wiring diagram from the guy that built the camper, and you can't provide a brand and model to us, you're sunk. Really it's not that complicated. Treat the lights like one wiring system, and the 12V interior electrical like a completely separate system. The only place they will connect together is at the 7-pin RV plug that connects to the truck. Even then, the only COMMON connection will be the ground (battery -). For the internal wiring, think in terms of a wiring "bus." All the +'s get connected together (12V+ from truck's trailer plug, converter 12V+ output, house battery +, lighting, appliances). All the -'s get connected together (ground from truck's trailer plug, converter ground, house battery -, lighting, appliances). You'll want to separate the + connections for various appliances and lights onto separate circuits with a fuse panel. AutoZone has a nice 6-circuit fuse panel that uses automotive type fuses. All the - connections can be made together on a bus bar.

RE: Am I losing my seat?

I am still looking to buy something, so please let me know if you find anything. Doubtful such a thing exists. The market for it is very limited, as the vast majority of people put... people... back there. Of the small number of people who go so far to tear the seats out, each has their own unique needs as far as that space goes. Good luck with a one-size-fits-all product that will satisfy enough of them to be profitable.

RE: Warranty work refused

Why did you "explain the situation" to the SLC Lance dealer? Kinda like sticking your thumb in a guy's eye before asking to bum a cigarette. In this case, as little information as possible would have been better. You've got a 2011 Lance 990 that's still under warranty with a bad radio, period, end of story. Don't rub it in that you didn't buy it from them. They probably won't ask.

RE: Towing Shouldn't Be This Difficult - Help Needed

That is not a lift. The F350 comes with that block standard. For the umpteenth time, you have problems up front in the steering and/or suspension systems. I don't care what the first mechanic you took it to said. He is wrong.

RE: Chalet's TC Washer and Dryer pictures

People point to the versatility of a TC & pickup plus the possibility of 4 wheel drive. They really can't do much pointing with a unit like this... Not much "versatility" in the MDT required to haul this behemoth. It's not something you'd be driving down to the local Home Depot for a couple of 2x4s and a bag of Sakrete. Sure you can, but are you gonna? I doubt it. ...and 4x4? Where are you going with that? The TC would to sit so high you'd be seriously limited where you can go due to bridge clearances. That TC sitting on top of a 4x4 MDT would have to be well over 13' high.

RE: 1T Pickup special rules and regulations?

I have a call into MNDot about a GVW restriction on a section of I35 through St. Paul (>9000lb trucks are prohibited, but buses and RVs are OK...not sure if this means I can't drive a 3500 p/u there or not). With the RV trailer hooked up, you're fine. Empty, the cop would have to be looking REAL CLOSE to tell the difference between a 2500 (legal) and a 3500 SRW (illegal?). They'd probably let you slide even if they did notice.

RE: Any 13' Ram DEF MPG yet?

I saw on the 2500's they ONLY offer the 3.42's... Thought that was strange? Not when you have almost 400 HP and over 800 ft/lbs of torque and a 6 speed tranny on tap. :B Yup, time to get over that 1970's mentality. The axle isn't the only place where you can achieve gear reduction.

RE: Fifth Wheel Capabilities Truck

Maybe yes, maybe no. It all depends on how much the "10,500lb dry weight fifth wheel" REALLY weighs loaded and ready to camp. It all depends on how much payload your truck has left. 10,500lbs is going to be 12,000lbs by the time you're loaded for camping. That's an awful lot behind a 6.0L gasoline engine even considering the 6-speed transmission. Your pin weight is going to be in the 2400-3000lb range, plus 250lb for the hitch in the truck. That will max out the stock rear tires on the truck, and it will likely require airbags or helper springs. It will almost certainly be over the GVWR of the truck. Even not knowing the exact weight of your truck and the payload it has left, a 10,500lb dry 5th wheel is going to pretty much be at the truck's limits, and your limits in the patience department as well.

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

Hmm, the doors on my DRW don't swing any wider than my 1500. Don't know why that would make any difference in a regular parking spot. Fact of the matter is I drive my DRW to work on occasion just to exercise it. I park in the same, regular-sized spots with either truck.

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

99% of it is mental. You're like, "OMFG, this truck is so big and so wide!" in the back of your mind. Get over that, and you've got it in the bag.

RE: This one or that one or the other one...

Palomino is widely regarded as the "low end" brand. That said, I really don't know if you're getting anything for the extra $$$ in a Lance. I've seen lots of griping and grousing about Lance quality too. Palomino sure isn't perfect, maybe not even great, but mine is serving me well going into its 4th season.

RE: center of gravity question

Again, it will be fine. You wouldn't be fretting yourself out of a good night's sleep worrying about hitching a 750lb tongue weight trailer to the truck.

RE: Adding a 4 prong flat to existing 5/6

None of those adapters at etrailer keep the 6-pole available. You could easily "roll your own" with the right assortment of plugs, some wire, and a screwdriver.
