RE: Advice Please on Auto Levelers

I don't have a leveling system but this thread has me thinking about something. Provided that the wheels are chocked securely to prevent rolling, would it be possible to change a tire (on any corner) using a leveling system without the need of a jack?

RE: Visiting Lousiana March 9 - 17 Suggestions?

So let me get this straight....you do not like cajun food or drink alcohol?? And you want to visit Louisiana??? All kidding aside, you are missing most of the touristy locations by staying above Alexandria. I am not sure how many remember the movie "The Toy". It was filmed in Baton Rouge and a lot of the scenes are evident by driving around the arsenal park and passing by the Chase Bank building downtown.

RE: Disappointed in the little things

Isn't there an old time saying, "don't sweat the small stuff" ? :)
You are correct and I am not trying to sweat the small stuff and I am not trying to get this escalated. As I said in my post, it is trivial stuff.
I am in the service business and our company is not the cheapest around. Our customers pay for their experience with our company. Sometimes it is the small things that make a difference in the customer's experience. I can buy RV parts, obtain trip routing, and buy a roadside assistance plan anywhere. Google works wonders. People come to Good Sam for the experience. Just trying to offer some feedback.

Disappointed in the little things

I just received my new membership card in the mail and I must say that although it is trivial, I am very disappointed. I have been a member since 2007. I had a nice membership card with a picture on the front stating how long I have been a member. When the Camping World and Good Sam memberships combined, I renewed and received another card. Although not as fancy, it still was sturdy and stated how long I have been a member. My membership ran out recently by a month or two. I usually renew at Camping World when I stop by to pick up something. I renewed and received a temporary membership card made of paper. I never received a real card. I tried to log on to the Good Sam site and could not. I called customer service to straighten it out. I was told that I could not use my old number and she updated all my information in the system and placed the request for a new card. I went to set up my preferences in the system and could not use my preferred username. It was already in use. Gee I wonder who had that name??? What was so difficult in taking my old information and just updating the expiration date so I could just keep my card?
Anyway, I just received my new card in the mail and it says member since 2012. It is also the flimsiest thing I have ever seen. It is like one of those peel and stick labels. I almost threw it away thinking it was junk mail.
I know these are small trivial things, but it means something to some people and it reflects the way you value your member's experience. It would be a shame if I decided not to renew my membership because of a stupid little membership card don't you think?

RE: 2012 Nissan Frontier dinghy???????

I bought one to use as a toad. It has to be a manual transmission. I wanted the crew cab so it needed the six speed. The 5 speeds did not come with the crew cabs. At the time there were only two vehicles in the country available in this configuration. Crew cab V6 with 6 speed manual. I drove across several states to get it. I brought it home on a dolly until I got it set up for 4 down. You can tow it on a dolly but it still has to ba a manual transmission. The only bad thing about mine was it was heavy at 4300 lbs and you could definately tell it was back there. Other than that it was a great toad. The only reason I did not keep it is because I wanted a bigger truck for my daily driver.

RE: Ford Escape Report

Knock on wood....I still have had no issues with mine. I stop about every 200 miles to run through the transmission. I also do the same when stopped for a period of more than about a half hour or so. I also keep the email from Ford stating that mine will be covered under warranty just in case. It was built in September of 2011. If someone has any real information (besides what someone else posted on a forum) where Ford is installing the pumps in all vehicles built prior to the cutoff date, please post the source of this info. I would like to know if this comes directly from Ford.

RE: Darkening Windows In Winnie

I had mine tinted for about $350 including the driver and passenger doors. I got limo (5%) on all except the front doors. I got tired of my kids waking up at the crack of dawn due to the brightness. Best upgrade I have done so far.

RE: Flat-towing & Increased Stopping Distance

I am not advocating one way or the other, but here is a hypothetical for you....I am driving along in an RV pulling a toad with no braking system. A truck pulls out 200 feet in front of me. It takes me 205 feet to stop, so I hit the truck. Same scenario with me driving an 18 wheeler with trailer brakes. Truck pulls out 200 feet in front of me. It takes me 300 feet to stop, so I hit the truck. Am I more negligent driving the RV or the 18 wheeler? Another comparison would be me driving a smart car vs me driving a 1 ton pickup. Car takes me 205 feet to stop vs 300 in the truck. Which is more negligent? What if the truck pulled out 250 feet in front of me? The RV would not have hit the truck, but the 18 wheeler still would have. Would I be any more negligent then?
My point is some vehicles are just bigger than others and take longer to stop period. If the vehicle (or combined vehicle) stops within a normal distance (not sure what that distance would be), what difference does it make WHAT the vehicle is?

LED Lighting questions

I have a question or two about LED lighting. Here are some bulbs for sale on ebay that I am considering purchasing. LED Lights
Would these work with the standard 921 bulbs in an RV? It looks like the pins are on opposite sides of the bottom of the bulb. I have seen some that have them on the same side. Does that make a difference? I just want to make sure they will work before spending my money.

RE: wears valley road

Only 1 bad turn where you have to use 2 lanes but just go slow and enjoy the scenery. I do it every year with my 62' rig.
x2
In the one tight turn, you WILL go into the other lane, so take it slow and watch for cars coming the opposite direction to make sure they see you. Other than that, it is fine.

RE: Suggestions for Lousiana in Mid-August

Louisiana has some very prety sites to see in the north and central areas of the state, but they are spread out. The biggest concentration of sites to visit (besides New Orleans) would be the lafayette area.

RE: 2012 Ford Escape

Here is the latest information I received from Ford.....
My name is Mea and I am also from Ford's Customer Relationship Center. I received your follow up email regarding your inquiry about towing your 2012 Ford Escape with all four wheels down. I am truly sorry if your inquiry has not been completely addressed on the previous communications.
To ensure that your inquiry would be appropriately addressed, I have escalated this to our Technical Subject Matter Expert. I was advised that the actual switch over date if the vehicle can be flat towed or not for an Escape is 02/27/2012. Anything built before that date can be flat towed and would be warrantable as long as flat towing instructions in the Owner's Manual are followed. Per our resources, your vehicle build date is 09/19/2011.
I appreciate this opportunity to assist you with your inquiry and thank you for contacting Ford.
Sincerely,
Mea
