RE: Harley on a 5er

Thanks for the input guys, but as you can see by the responses this seems to be a sticky wicket... I am nervous about pulling the trigger on anything too. There has to be one heck of a bunch of Harley guys out there that have figured this out!!!
Swivel wheel style trailer.....its the only thing that doesn't screw up the pin weight and makes it easy to take a bike. Toy haulers weren't an option to me (to utilitarian for me) and I built my own swivel wheel trailer, you can make a cover for them also, to keep the bike relatively clean.

RE: Place to stay in La Grande while camper is repaired.

"Yup Wollowa Lake.....my son lives there. There is some nice little places to stay in Joseph and Enterprise, they are right next to each other."
Thanks, Kowboy! Can your son recommend a place in La Grande?
He aint much for the city......goes in the La Grande to Wally World and the such. We've never stayed in La Grande, but I'm sure there is a little B&B close to where you need.
I'll check with him today and see if he knows of any place.

RE: Heading North 5 or 99?

The 5 sucks...........it will beat the******out of your rig, get over to the 395 if you can. We took that route last year to Oregon.

Theres a quaint little tourist town about 45 min north east of La Grande called Joseph and a good fishing hole there too.

RE: May have to build swivel wheel trailer for 5th wheel

I'm going to build my own swivel wheel trailer.....IMO they just want to much money for a new one. I've sourced the parts and have an old 4'x 8' utility trailer to add the wheels to. Not bringing a golf cart but have a touring bike that we like to bring along..........nothing like sightseeing on 2 wheels!

RE: EPDM Liquid Roof-Questions For Those Who Have Used It

replace the rubber roof with rhino lining type of material.
bumpy
Retired and on a fixed income........3-4K is not in the budget for the roof. I am cheap labor and they don't have a DIY kit to do it with. I can get the replacement membrane kit for $500-$600.
do a search, there is at least one DIYer here.

Couldn't find anything, but thanks.

RE: looking for 30' alpenlite fifth wheel in tx

It took us 6 months to find our 5er. We were looking for an Alpenlite, Holiday Rambler, Or Arctic Fox, with a single super-slide. We had an Alumascape and should have never got rid of it. We fount our 29 RKDL local, it wasn't in the best of shape, but the price was right for its condition, and we loved the floorplan. Look every day and you will find one in the long run.

RE: EPDM Liquid Roof-Questions For Those Who Have Used It

Went up on the roof last evening and I think I will replace the membrane rather than just band aid it. I've heard that the wood runners on the edges of the Alpenlite's roofs have a tendency to rot and need to be replaced around the age of ours. I will do more checking of the edges today for soft spots. The main roof itself doesn't seem to have any soft spots that I can find. Plus if I replace the membrane I can do some patching that I want to do. The sat dish is in the wrong place and needs to be replaced, and there is a non working solar roof fan that I want to remove too.

EPDM Liquid Roof-Questions For Those Who Have Used It

OK, the roof on Alpenlite is kinda done, its the original, no rips or tears, and its still mostly white. It looks like the PO did a poor job of using the Dicor roof coating, and its peeling off.
We are starting the remodel and updating of it and I need to get the roof in order along with the resealing of ALL the windows, lights, and anything else on the outside.
Has anyone use the EPDM liquid roof coating? Does anyone know the life expectancy of it? It looks like a decent coating, or should I just tear off and replace the existing EPDM sheet?

RE: The S&S Restore/Update/Repair Thread

I will be pulling the AC off the roof next week to see if there is anything that can be done, without a complete roof teardown. Maybe I can patch something together to get a few more years out of her. Funny I can walk all over the roof and there is no soft spots or flexing.

RE: The S&S Restore/Update/Repair Thread

I know its been forever since I posted in this thread...............so.
I believe that its time to cut our losses with the S&S. We have used it a lot this past couple of years and it appears that there is a leak in the roof around the AC that I never found during the "big" repair. Now the roof is showing that the roof paneling under the vinyl/plastic paper that they covered it in is starting to come apart from rot.
At this point the 'ol S&S isn't worth the time and effort to tear the roof off, remove all the roof joists, and replace the ceiling panels and any joists that I find to be rotted. We will continue to use it till it starts having structural issues, then it will be parted out and recycled accordingly.
She has served us well over the past couple of years and I think she has 1 big run left in her. So we will be going on vacation in her this year for the last time.
A moment of silence please..............................

RE: It's been fun, but going to the "dark side"

Slight change of plans...................after some investigation and planning...........
We figure is will take us 6 months to a year to redo the 5er to be how we want it and have decided to sell off some of the vehicles to fund the build. Keeping the S&S as our RV during the build.

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Just spent 3 hours cleaning it out...........the winds in the desert were heavy and the dust was thick. WE HAD A BLAST!! Our off-road group hosted the wet-lap game at one of our off-road rallies.

RE: To Fifth wheel from Class A with toad

We went from TC, to 5er, to Moho, to TC, and are settling back to a 5er.
IMO...if your a sitter, a 5er. If your a traveler, a Moho. We like to sit for a while and with the Moho....they don't like to sit. Its a vehicle with a drivetrain, sitting is not good for them. The 5er doesn't care, there is no drivetrain to deal with and the TV is your driver when parked. I've always owned at least a 3/4 ton truck, so its no big deal to use it for around town errands.
