RE: Moisture control

Thanks for the replies, and yes I guess I should really call it an "air dryer" It would be different than a dehumidifier.

RE: Scary moment

They just did not match up and it locked around the widest part of the pin, what you may call the flange and so it just popped right out, it is something that always concerns me, especially this year as we had a spot at a place that the trailer was level, but the truck was down on the nose and was leaning to the left, so bad combination, did get unhitched, then had a bit of fun trying to get it hooked up again so that it would all close and lock properly. A dual pivoting hitch would have helped me a lot.

Moisture control

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v135/partsman/100_0984.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v135/partsman/100_0982.jpg So bought a bigger fifth wheel this summer, a 1999 Coachman 22 foot, and I put a tarp on it and bought a product for controlling moisture,it is the round one, any input on this style, supposed to be good for up to 1000 Square feet and not draw too much power, very quiet operation. Is there better ones, or better ways to do the same thing? When I had a boat it was just something like a bulb with a tin can for a chimmney, but I don't recall the specs or I would have tried to make one. Okay, here is a picture of the box it came in, I should have posted it, or at least a picture of the unit itself, but I did this post from work, and have not been out to the fifth wheel to take a picture of the unit, I have it on the floor, figure it will move the coldest air that way.

Fridge questions

Okay, this 99 fifth wheel has a dometic fridge with a climate control switch at the top, marked on or off, what does it do? And secondly, fridge turned on and empty, open then shut door, door actually pulls in and you can hear like pressure, or vacuum, what is that and is it normal?

1999 Coachmen fifth wheel A/C question

I am wondering on this unit we bought, it has one A/C unit on it, a Dometic and I am wondering what power source do we need at a site to plug into, I think one place we will be at is only a 15amp service, will that run it, and if not, what service does one need to run one A/C unit as a rule?

RE: Holy *%$#!! My Awning Unravelled At Speed! What the....!?

It's all operator error, didn't you know, I find this topic interesting, as when I bought this used unit I have posted about and asked questions about, I specifically asked the dealer about this phenomenon, and he said "operator error" I kid you not, I said I had heard and read about it happening, and he again said he would put it all down to error on the owners part, so there you have it. I guess he must know more than the actuall owners that have had the failure. :h

RE: Method to measure sidewall cracks in tires

My tools are eyes and fingers, I look at them all around and feel them all around to see how they seem to be doing, and also look for that date code. I don't like seeing cracks.YMMV:C

RE: Infrared Thermometers

Mine is a blue point, when I brought the empty fifth wheeler home it was a four hour trip at speeds up to 149KmH and I got a reading of around 108 farenheit, which did not seem bad, but I should have written it down. Will be tracking things on our trip in two weeks.

RE: Replacing Leaf Springs question

Well I was climbing up and down the ladder at the back of the unit putting max air covers on all the vents, and I see the back panel come apart, they had fixed one on the right side of the unit before I bought it as it had opened up, all they did was put sealer and screws in it, but now this back panel opened up, so I shoved it back together, but I wonder if that is a sign I am doing something wrong, something must be pulling it apart.

RE: Replacing Leaf Springs question

Well by the levels stuck on the side I have it level, using the front landing legs, but I had thought of hooking it up to the truck to see if it rides different.

RE: Replacing Leaf Springs question

Well this is what I got back from giving them all the info on the tag. The serial number you supplied came up negative. Look and see if there is a number on the spring that starts with a 72. If the number is there than that is the part number for the spring. If not then you will have to measure the springs. The measurement needed is the length (measure across the center of one spring eye to the center of the other spring eye). How many spring leaves are there? What is the GAWR (gross axle weight rating)? Also look and see if there is a number on the spring that starts with a 72.

Replacing Leaf Springs question

So now that I have the 1999 Coachmen Catalina fifth wheel home and have been loading it up for our upcoming vacation, the back axle appears to be sagging, there is maybe an inch or two between the top of tire and bottom of wheel well, the front has more clearance, I can get my fist up on the tire, have not actually measured the space, but the springs on the back do seem to be flatter, the rating on the metal tag says 2800Lbs, anyway have found some at Princess Auto up here, they are listed as 4-leaf 1,750 lb. capacity 25-1/4" centre eye to eye 1-3/4" spring width 9/16" eye diameter $35.00CDN Mine appear to be five leaf, but Dexter says they don't show that, my axle is a P-29 Model SLR and also marked D28 but they say my serial number I gave does not come up when they tried it. Anyway here is a picture of springs, should not be a hard job, what do you think? Can't get the bigger picture to work. http://www.princessauto.com/components/com_virtuemart/show_image_in_imgtag.php?filename=2080032.jpg&newxsize=90&newysize=90&fileout=

RE: Propane detector going off

Well after buying the unit I did go over any connection I could find with my electronic leak detector and it was fine at that time. But I noticed this happened as soon as we shut it up tight because it was supposed to rain, now have maxi vents so we can keep the vents open. But I notice the neighbours compost is right beside the rig, wonder if the methane is coming off that and causing a problem?

RE: Propane detector going off

It is as old as the rig, 1999.

Propane detector going off

So had shut up the fifth wheel as it is supposed to rain, and now the neighbour comes over saying he hears an alarm, it was the propane detector, so I did not see any problem, unit is plugged into shore power, so it is not a low power situation, but I think a case of being closed tight and whatever gases the old carpet or interior puts out causing it to go off, but of course now it is one more thing to set the wife off about, can't seem to make her realise it is nothing, and just can happen on older units. Any of you ever find this happens?

RE: Updated, tire question on new to me rig, about matching

Well upon further investigation, turns out I have three C rated tires good for max of 50 psi and only one is a B rated tire with a max of 35 psi, so they did hold up on the long run home, but looks like I better get one tire replaced and turns out the spare is marked as a p not an st, so it is actually a car tire, so maybe take the B off and keep for spare, and try match one up to the rest.

Magic chef cover

So wife decides she wants a cover on the magic chef stove, so go buy one that is for it and bring it home, has a bracket screwed to it on each side, but sure won't fit ours, phone the place that had it, which is an hour away and they say if the original stove doesn't have a place to mount it then I will have to fabricate my own, anybody have pics of theirs, or of how they made a cover work?

Okay, it is late, so will have to do that in the morning, thanks, never thought of that. We shall see.

What is it? Is this a tool?

I forgot to ask the dealer, but taped to the inside of the binder that came with our fifth wheel was this metal object, is it maybe a guage for setting something? Any ideas? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v135/partsman/Fifth%20wheels/100_0499.jpg

RE: Tunnel fan; Dometic fridge

I find this all interesting, I have computer fans I thought about putting in the back of the fridge from the outside panel to blow the air up past the coils, but I am curious about the fridges with the settings, the one we just bought a 1999 Coachmen Catalina Lite 22' fifth wheel has a fridge that is factory set and there is no adjustment, only a climate control switch you can turn on or off, so I would think I am stuck with whatever the factory setting is, and would only be able to add a fan to make it work better. The dealer did the recall it turns out just before I came to take possesion of it.
