RE: Funny Town Names?

Nothing worse than driving across Maine.... Seeing a sign that says 2 miles to Mexico! And every year we drive south in PA and pass Mars and Moon. This year we noticed we passed Houston... :?

RE: having a brain cramp here on water pump not pressurizing.

Pressurize the system with shore water. Check to make sure the water heater is full. then try the water pump. Work for me.:S Would you believe I never thought of that way to do it. Every year I worry about the water pump not getting anywhere all because it has to fill up the water heater... Thanks much for that (probably obvious to everyone else) tip! You just never know when you'll learn something on here. :)

RE: Best constructed travel trailer

Lance TT! WoodGlue^This from an owner of less than one year. Yes, Woodglue - I'm sick of your constant pushing of Lance. Sick, sick, sick. Notice the age of my TT and yet, never have I pushed it. Never. I've posted links to Lance campers where the tack welds of the aluminum frames have failed. Buy a Lance? You couldn't pay me. Glad you're happy with what you bought, but it really is in bad taste to be a pusher. I see you think you might look like an elitist - look up the definitions of pusher and elitist and see who you really are.

RE: Dry Ice in Non-Working Fridge

I agree with using regular ice. I've been around long enough that we had an "ice box" rather than a fridge in our first camper. Worked fine. Just think of it as a cooler. Good luck!

RE: Debit or Credit Card?

I have gone to the links that two of you provided to compare credit cards. Do any of you use the American Express Blue Cash Everyday card ? CarolynYes, we do. But, as said some smaller businesses don't take Amex, so we also have a Visa card. Our Blue Cash card gets 99.9% of our usage though. (We are also in the group that pays it off every month.) Our son had his debit card compromised and it was a humongous hassle to straighten it out - in fact they recommended that he close his account and open a new one. We don't have debit cards - just ATM cards for our bank.

RE: Moving On

Thanks Les, for all your time given for moderating - and for all the help and advice you've given over the years. You will be remembered by me every time I tighten up my home made wheel chocks! :) Good luck in the future...

RE: Joshua Tree NP Closed Due to Graffiti

Unfortunately, the kids were not thinking. They've not lived long enough to understand the impact. {snip}You are so right. We had a couple old covered bridges near where we live and a few years ago some kids burned our favorite one down. Built in 1868 and was on the National Register of Historic Places... It is no more and our kids just couldn't understand how anyone could do that to something irreplaceable. Sorry to hear about this. :(

RE: white cabinets

The available colors go in cycles. It has nothing to do with what the consumer wants - it is to differentiate one year from another so that folks always want to buy new so they won't have an outdated color scheme. Wait long enough and what's old is new again. :)

RE: Why Do You Post Here?????

LOL! There is not an Internet Forum in existence where the thinned skinned will last very long...... People are what they are and the distance that the internet & keyboard puts between people, provides many with great courage! ;-)Believe it or not there are folks out there in internet land that are considerate. I've been an RVer - strike that - camper - forever and I thought I would meet lots of like-minded folks here. There are a lot, but mix in the meanies and... You know what - I have 3 things I ask myself before I post... 1. Will this help someone? 2. Will this make someone happy or smile? 3. Do you suppose anyone really cares? If I can't get at least one to be true I usually hit the back button. I was just going to do it now, but thought I'd share my back button philosophy. ;)

RE: Illegal or not?

Never heard of this law, I'll have to check the RCW's here in Washington state. Not a problem for me, I always remove mine on the back of my 1965 Chevy van because it gets in the way when I open the back doors to get to my tool boxes and other camping stuff. Hurts when I step into it and DW gets tired of cleaning the grease off of my jeans. There ya go - it should be illegal!

RE: legnth of finance terms?

Option A: You have $20K in cash and you buy an RV for $15K and pay cash. You have a paid for RV and then 3 months later you loose your job. The only way to get funds is to sell the RV which will take time and you are not in a good negotiating position. Option B: You have $20K in cash, keep some in a safe savings account and some in investments (stocks and bonds). You buy the $15K RV with 100% financing at a historically very low rate (say 3%) and your required monthly minimum payment is under $200. You loose your job 3 months later and you have lots of options since you still have the $15K in investments / cash. Option B is the much smarter option, assuming you are still working. The key here is to not spend too much on the RV. I would much rather finance my toy / RV / whatever you want to call it. If the sh#* hits the fan and your RV gets repo'd big deal because you don't need it to live. You do NEED your house / apartment, transportation and food. If you want to be more conservative, I would pay off your vehicles but finance your "toys".That's a conservative for ya. Let the rest of us pay.

For those of you who have multiple RVs...

Do you have each one stocked up with kitchen items, linens, outdoor chairs, etc... Or do you move those things from one RV to another? This question relates to Jeremiah's question: How many RVs do you have?

RE: Uses For 303 Aerospace Protectant?

We use it on anything plastic, vinyl, or rubber. Our air conditioner shroud looks and feels like new as well as the other vent covers. The rubber trim around windows, door, and storage bays. The plastic light lens covers Other than the RV I use it on our plastic outdoor furniture - the chairs on our porch and even the top of our Lifetime picnic table. The most exciting use was on the fiberglass top on the back of our truck. We never had anything to put on it to keep it nice - wax wouldn't work. We love 303.

RE: MPG

My Excursion gets 13mpg on the highway not towing. Towing my TT it gets 8mpg.Pretty close to what we get - only towing we get 8.4! And...No fuel injection...Or computers of any kind... (But, then again, we are towing an aerodynamic trailer built to European standards to be dragged by a car.) OP - Hopefully you've realized by all the responses that towing will lower your MPG...big time...That's just the way it is.

RE: Anything unique outhere??

I have been looking for a TT for a while and by now I've noticed that they are all kind of the same thing, very similar floor plans, identical furniture, etc.. very few different details. Just wondering if there's anything "cool" outhere that I'm missing. :/We've certainly noticed the same thing. You would get more help if you told us a bit more about what your looking for. Do you have kids that need beds? What are you planning on pulling it with? If it's just for 2, we found this one to be different and not too big and heavy: Kodiak 242RESL http://kodiak-rv.com/media/floorplans/kodiak-rv/2012/large/242resl.jpg width=500 It's not laid out like a train car and is very roomy inside.

RE: Do Not Wax Decals

I would advise you to use 303 Aerospace Protectant - it is a UV blocker and is meant for vinyl and rubber. Sorry you have to be so careful with the decals. I am another one that has been waxing my entire trailer - decals and all and the decals are still like new. I do believe they have gone to cheaper material or something 'cuz we also have some older vehicles with decals (stripes) that we have always waxed over with no problems. Good luck!
