RE: tow vehicle

I have a 03 F150 with the 4.6 and tow a 3800# boat, the truck does nice on flat ground but is whimpy on the hills. Most noticable in the MPG's but it does ok.

RE: Surging and chucking

My water tank is slightly forward of the 5er's tires so it adds a little weight on the pin but mostly adds weight to the 5er. Mine 5er says it is 1/2 ton towable so it is fairly light, not that I would even think about towing it with either of my F150's.

RE: Filling Water Tank on HR Alumascape

I got a pump and a couple 6 gallon water jugs that I adapted the top to accept the hose fitting. It works very well for me, I got tired of lifting and spilling the water.

RE: 5vr Front License Plate :UPDATE:

Well I didn't get 2 plates with my 5er. But I did watch on the Turko files (a local tv station lawyer fighting for the little guy) where a guy got a ticket for parking on the blue lines. His vehicle does have the DP plate and he had to fight through 3 appeals to a real Judge to get the bureaucracy to listen and find he was not guilty. Leave it to Mexifornia....

RE: Replacing storage compartment locks

I picked up some replacement locks at Home Depot and was able to find them keyed alike, just need to watch the key number. Although that only makes mine different from everyother rv, it will keep the honest people honest. But as said before if someone really wants in they will get in.

RE: Trailer Fault Light

I have seen this with my boat trailer which has surge brakes and when I moved the 5er I had no batteries (borrowed bats for the boat). My guess was there was no voltage but did not use that truck for towing boat to see if the fault continued, maybe I should check the wiring ground on the boat?

RE: Surging and chucking

I have found there is much less chucking with my setup when I fill the water tank, DW complains I'm carrying unnecessary weight when she catches me but also complains of the chucking. So I fill up with water when she isn't looking, and no complaints then... lol

RE: A/C Cutting out

I'd be interested in this solution, I have similar problem but my A/C is popping the breaker. When you need the A/C the most 100+ outside it doesn't work properly. When I got home and it is barely 85 outside A/C works just fine.

RE: from 5th wheel to class A

This other post of a TV failure tells me why I will stay with a 5er. Even tho the truck is broke still have my trailer.

RE: Ford Super Duty shocks

I put the Rancho rs9000x on my F250 and she rides much better than she did stock, they are adjustable and were nicely priced. I purchased online. Got mine here good service.

RE: Change tranny fluid or not?

I agree with SoCalDesertRider or you can take his idea one step further as I did, with a tranny cooler you can actually do a full fluid change. Let it pump out the fluid, refill and let it pump the fluid out again. It took about 4 cycles to get all the fluid nice and bright red. Then drop the trans pan and change the filter. But on an 02 F150 there is very possibly a drain plug on the torque converter, this is where most of the fluid is stored, removing the drain plug and changing the filter while it is open will be good.

RE: Backing a 5ver vs. a trailer?

And even the turning radius of the TV. When I traded my Yukon XL (Suburban) for my CC SB F250 I had to relearn how to back my 30' TT.
I did forget but now I remember I was used to backing the boat with the windstar then got the f150 and had to learn to back it once again. If I had backed the boat with the F250 LB I probably would have been learning only once again, since I have 2 trucks it was much easier to move the boat with the F150 since the 5er needs the F250. So yes it does get down to what you are used to. I remember backing a jetski once what a pain that was, it really turned quickly and there wasn't much room for error. Longer trailer, longer TV and pivot point all play into the physics of backing the trailer.

RE: Backing a 5ver vs. a trailer?

I like this question, I just had to move both the boat (bumper pull) and my 5er over the week-end. The 5er did take a little to get used to but so did the bumper pull trailer. Backing is almost an art. But which is easier is that old addage it is about 6 and 1/2 dozen to the other. They each have their own characteristics, the bumper starts to turn quicker but once the 5er starts turning it turn sharper. It is much easier to put a 5er in a tight spot and more accurate than the bumper pull. But I think to truely answer the question, the one you are used to is the one that is easier... IMHO

RE: Integraged trailer brake

I highly recommend the integrated brake controller also, only draw back I've heard also is the hydraulic over electric but that may be over come. As Mile High said it is very well integrated and when using tow/haul is when the whole integration comes to life.
