RE: Looking to cross the border in early October

How many Americans have disappeared in the U.S.? Thousands. How many American children have been murdered in the last year just because they were there? 750,000 children disappear each year in the USA. This is a fact that can be found with an easy search of Google. I didn't believe it when I heard it on a TV New Channel so went to the internet for the Truth. I was shocked to fine that they had in fact reported correctly. So I went one step further in wanting to know what the birth and death rates were in the USA. 2.4 mil in new births and 1 mil in deaths. So half of our net population increase in the USA disappears each year. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico The last comprehensive study (from 1999) puts the figure closer to 800,000. And that is the number of "reported" missing children. But I believe you imply more than is there. From that 1999 study National Estimate of Missing Children Fundamentally, whether a child is “missing” depends on the knowledge and state of mind of the child’s caretaker, rather than the child’s actual condition or circumstance. From the caretaker’s point of view, the child is not where the caretaker expects the child to be, the caretaker does not know the child’s location, and these circumstances raise concern about the child’s well-being. Despite this concern, a missing child may not be in any peril whatsoever, as in the case where the child and parent have had a miscommunication about the time the child is expected to arrive home. Looking at their data, 200,000 were abducted by family members - custody issues being the primary factor. The two serious categories: 58,000 were abducted by non-family members and the 115 "stereotypical” kidnappings. The latter are the ones we hear about in the national press. According to Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, "More than 99 percent of children reported missing in America in recent years have come home." Tom

RE: test photo

... So my question is - why do we now have to edit the link from Photobucket and why does the pixel size settings appear from RV.NET's upload page - it never did before?. Since the changes at Photobucket.Com, I think the easiest way to post is to use the Direct link http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d90/tfix/Photobucketmenu.jpg and the messages windows Image tool, http://www.rv.net/SharedContent/cfb/images/editortoolbar/image.gif See this tutorial. RE: Measuring grade on hills

The Garmin dezl560 and 760 gps devices will display grade. I've not used the feature, so I can't comment on the accuracy. Tom

RE: Test

FYI Although it may be easier, in some cases, it is not necessary to make a new post to verify a signature chance. When one changes a signature, the change will be displayed on all existing posts, that already have a signature. Signatures are not stored with posts. When a page is displayed, the signatures are added to the posts that should have them. The signatures are retrieved from the posters' accounts. Tom

RE: my small town

Our town is so small that the police department has an unlisted number and the fire department won't make house calls. Once, our town clerk asked if anyone had seen the town manager. No one had seen him for a few of weeks. Clerk was only looking, because the town manager had not picked up his last two paychecks. Turns out, he had quit, without telling anyone, and moved out of state. My thinking is that is no one at the town hall had missed the town manager for a couple of weeks, then we don't need a town manager. Tom

Horneytown, NC and Climax, NC are only 25 miles apart. But they are a long way from Intercourse, PA. Tom

RE: RV pics past and future

http://photos.msn.com/slideshow/autos/rvs-past-present-and-future/23aqp0m9#1 I feel like my parents with the VCR flashingb12:00 for months, can't really post a link See the top part of this tutorial. You will find that posting an active link requires only two clicks more than posting the inactive URL. One click to open the link tool, http://www.rv.net/SharedContent/cfb/images/editortoolbar/link.gif, and one click for the finish button. If you want to add text, as in ScottG's post, which is optional, then your will have a third click and some typing. Thanks for sharing the slideshow. Tom I did that but after pressing finish nothing happened. Waited a while and nothing. Maybe because I am using an iPad and not a computer. I am posting this link Sarah's iPad. When's you say nothing happened, what exactly do you mean? Did the link window just stay visible? This discussion should take place in Forum Technical Support. Start a thread there. Leave your attempt. Perhaps, someone can figure out what is happening. As the above illustrates, the problem is not just because you are using an iPad. Tom

RE: CO/Propane detector

They do make combo LP/CO detectors: I installed one in mine last year after my propane detector failed due to water infiltration. It has led's to show wether it is alarming for propane or CO. Dual LP/CO detector & alarm Yes, there are combo detectors. But, because of the factors pointed out by Eurocamper, it would seem wiser to have separate detectors - CO detector on the ceiling, propane detector near the floor. Tom

RE: Happy Mother's Day

There's really only puppy; Breeze is all 5. The photo shoot took place when she 10 weeks old at the Coker Arboretum on the Campus of the University of North Carolina, for Avanti Greeting Cards. The shoot last more than 3 hours and she was one tired puppy. The head shots were taken last and "photoshopped" onto the bodies. As you can tell by her expression, she was still willing. The card was first released in 2006, and re-released this year with a different caption. Tom

RE: Ice Cream Sandwich

Don't worry about it, you'll be on Jellybean soon enough. ;) And how do you know this? The OP didn't say what Android version his phone was running and, hopefully, his new phone already runs Jelly Bean. On the other hand, although Jelly Bean was released in July, 2012, only 28.4% of Android users are using Jelly Bean, and only 2.3% are using the major release (from 4.1.x to 4.2.x), which was made available in February of this year. It is the bane of the Android ecosystem; even if the manufacture or carrier promises you that the phone will be upgraded to the the next OS (or even the current one), there is no assurance that the promise will be kept, and there is many instances of no upgrades made available, even when previously promised. BTW, Key Lime Pie, the next version of Android is due out in this quarter. Tom

RE: NEW LAPTOP???

I expect my laptops to provide many years of good use. Currently, I use an IBM ThinkPad (yes, IBM) purchased in 2000 and an Apple MacBook Pro purchased in 2009. Both have been, essentially, trouble free. I did replace the hard drive on the ThinkPad to get greater capacity and I had to replace its power cord. I'm finally thinking about replacing the ThinkPad. So far, my first choice is the Lenovo ThinkPad T430, which would go for about $1100 the way I would configure it. But, I still haven't decided. Consumer Reports latest brand reliability ratings have Apple on top, with Lenovo tied for second. (Dell is ranked last.) Consumer Reports Tech Support rankings lists Apple number one, by a very wide margin. Lenovo was the top-ranked among the other manufacturers. Tom

RE: Canadian border/frozen food

I think I would want a more reliable source of information than an e-How article. Although the list from the e-How article is fairly accurate, I agree that it is not the best source, since the restrictions change over time and some issues are not simple "yes or no." Here is a Canadian government page: What Can I Bring Into Canada in Terms Of Food, Plant, Animal and Related Products? Here is what the page says, currently, about fresh fruits and vegetables. one bag up to 4 kilograms of US number 1 potatoes per person and the bag must be commercially packaged 15 packages or less up to 250 kilograms of fresh fruits and vegetables per person (excluding potatoes) must be free from soil, pests, leaves, branches and/or plant debris some restrictions on some fresh fruit and vegetables from California, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington in British Columbia (BC): restrictions on fresh apples, stone fruit and potatoes Tom

RE: TV (Television)

I have a main Tele in my living area and another in the bedroom. I have replaced the CRT TV at 70# with a flatscreen at less than 20. The bedroom TV is also hooked up to the rig's air antenna. There is a splitter from the antenna and separate lines to each of the TV's. Why can I not receive two separate programs at the same time. I have not replaced the bedroom TV with a digital one. Could this be the reason? Thanks for the help. david From your wording, I assume the bedroom tv can display the same channel as the living area tv, Does the second tv have an attached digital to analog converter box? If no, then what is doing the conversion? If yes, are you using the converter box to change the channels (instead of the tv, itself?) Tom
