RE: Just came back from Brown County...

Snow covered campground and nobody else around. Love it.
Pulled out the overhead bed and slept on the sofa beneath it. A small electric heater kept the space between warm and we were comfy under the quilt. Woke up yesterday morning, and had left my shoes in the door well overnight. They were frozen to the plastic LOL.
We enjoyed the solitude and the half dozen deer that hung around the camper. Too cold for much hiking, though. Visited with family and drove about exploring the area.
Sounds delightful ... except for the frozen shoes lol. How were the roads in the area? I'm guessing you are in Southwestern Ohio (?) and it wasn't too far to drive? Brown County is 4-5 hours from where I live, and I always forget about it. May need to put it on the spring trip wish list. Glad you had a nice time.

RE: B's are really too cramped,

To each their own.
Some like beer, others scotch, yet others coffee.
Enjoy.
Cheers.
I enjoy all three beverages, especially scotch :)

RE: What did you buy for your B for the holidays?

Same holiday gift as previous years ... four to five months of winter storage. Found a much larger space this year that includes use of a battery tender.

RE: Buying Tires

Good responses above.
Something to definitely avoid is using a P-Metric sized tire, instead of an LT tire. Used car lots in our area are known to "save money" by putting on a P245/75R16 instead of an LT245/75R16/E (10 ply).
The load carrying capacity of the P-Metric size is much lower than the LT. Check your van's door placard to find Pleasureway's recommended size, and don't use anything with a lower load carrying capacity, even if it would cost less. Overloaded tires on our heavy vans can be a disaster.
That said, there's nothing wrong with choosing the "middle" tire. Go to a tire place you trust, and tell them you don't want the cheapest tire, nor the most expensive. If they know what they're doing (i.e. they work with 1 ton vans fairly often), they'll be able to steer you in the right direction.

RE: B's are too cramped

That's a fine looking van :C You (and mumkin) made a good choice. I'm curious how you got the Great West from Canada to Europe. Are there GW dealers over there, or did you have to arrange shipping on your own?

RE: Is a garbage truck conversion a "B"

Why is this on here.
As you can see, Charles, some folks are interested.
Wouldn't worry if I were you. It will die off soon enough.
And I did truly wonder if it was a B.
Regards,
Keith
I don't know, guys ... the "locked keys in lesharo" topic made it to three pages :@ :h

RE: Sprinter based Class B's

Right now, as to the future, I have more faith in the Sprinter than GM. Ask any Pontiac, Saturn and Saab owner about that.
Saab owner here. Personally, I'm hoping the Swedish government, or any group of random Swedes, buys back the brand. There's just enough difference between the build of my 89 9000 CD and my (GM)2004 9-3t to see that GM was looking to shave costs.

RE: Sleeping in Camper Vans Could Be Deadly

November 20, 2009 8:48 a.m. EST
London, England (CNN) -- A British man who strangled his wife in his sleep while dreaming that she was an intruder walked free from court Friday after the case against him was withdrawn, prosecutors said...
...The brief trial, which opened Tuesday, heard that Thomas killed his wife while the pair were taking a camper van vacation in western Wales, PA reported.
One night, Thomas -- who experts said may have been suffering worsening dreams due to withdrawal from anti-depressants -- experienced a violent nightmare in which he attacked and fought an intruder and got him in a headlock, only to wake and find he had strangled his wife...

Okay, maybe I've got a problem, but the part in green made me laugh out loud. Perhaps the moral is be careful who you let sleep in your camper van. Thanks for the chuckle, Lynne :)

RE: Road Salt Protection and Maintenance ?

... So what you folks do for winter prep and maintenance to help your B survive the winter muck?
Probably not a helpful answer ... My Sportsmobile goes into storage (for the next 4-5 months) this Saturday.

RE: No longer a Moderator

Thanks for all the great work, Rodger. You've constantly kept the CVC forum in line & on topic, plus made it a more interesting place with your insightful posts. I hope you continue to post here. How else will I learn about things like "hot bus bars" and coolers on wheels with brakes?
Peace & good karma,

RE: I Gotta Get Outta The House More

I find 'Hitting The Road' (in our 'B') to be an illuminating journey, a journey filled with adventure, freedom, and lack of prediction...:@
Can ya'll relate to this...:h
Nope, because I still have to come back within time limits to a job. Way too predictable, only temporary freedom, I do get the adventure, though. 1 3/4 years to go!
Same situation here with travel time limits. Last week I did get to drive the 'B' to Southern Indiana (14 hours round trip) for a 3 day business seminar.
I certainly failed to "predict" the hotel's parking garage would have a 7 foot opening for self-parking with a tour bus sized opening for valet-parking. As street parking was not an option, I had to use the valet. You all know what kind of thoughts run through your head when you let a complete stranger valet-park your car ... Now imagine turning over the keys to your 'B' for 3 days :E
It certainly was a leap-of-faith "adventure." Fortunately, the van was returned in fine condition, and I pretended I was on a camping trip all the way home :)

RE: Anyone

Yes, I have to be in IN in March anyway, so I might just stop by at the SM site in IN.
March in Indiana? Eeeeew. At least the snow will be gone by then.
Let me know if you decide to visit. My job is close to the Huntington plant, and I'd be happy to show you an additional van.

RE: Anyone

The best thing about Sportsmobile, IMHO, is that there are so many different styles. Some appealing, some quirky ... it's all a result of letting owners design their own.
I recommend flying to the Austin plant to see a variety of rigs. Why Austin? Because they have a large number of consignment units, along with plenty of new ones in production. Plus, Austin is a fun town to visit ... good food, good music, bats, etc.
Aren't you due for a long weekend get away? :)

RE: Easy tire care

... My concern is whether or not the chemicals in those "wet look" tire coatings are detrimental to the makeup that the tire companies spent millions developing for long life and UV protection ...
I share the same concern. Wonder if any of the major tire manufacturers or the RMA (Rubber Manufacturers Association) have issued any opinion on the topic? I will admit, that shiny "wet" tire look does look nice.
