RE: 2012 Freightliner M2-112

the M-2's are a comfortable truck though i would get one with an auto.. friends i work for now and then have one with the auto shift manual the control system for the clutching and shifting went out was fairly expensive to have repaired.. gets better milage than the f350 crew cab it replaced hauling the same weight.. both have towed over 30,000lbs.. also turns alot sharper..

RE: Camper tie downs- 80s chev/gmc

if you want to aviod the bed mounted tie downs you may want to see about a custom belly bar that will clear the driveline just mount it to the the flanges of the frame or even have the side plates made to line up with the factory holes in the frame and have nuts welded onto the mounting plates and use short bolts to prevent rubbing on the tanks...we used a flange mounted belly bar to mount extra heavy duty running boards on a 1980 chevy 1ton dually 4X4..

RE: How much weight is too much weight?

it depends on the truck..the factory will have different gvw's on the same model truck with the only difference being the gear ratios.. plus some trucks like mine only difference between them and a 1ton srw is the badge on the fender.. I don't see a 9.5 camper being a big issue as far as your gvwr as it is no doubt 1,000 lbs under axle ratings.. i didn't even need my air bags to haul my 3,000 lbs plus 11ft camper home..

RE: Prius towing a travel trailer? Yes.

looks hooked to me, but it would beg the question "why" and that coming from me is saying something as i used to haul a tandem axle flatdeck trailer with a 77 chevette..ah to be young and dumb again.. :S

RE: How over engineered are receivers?

first off check to makes sure there is no rust holes unless you are talking heavy surface rust.. yes i have pushed the receiver on my truck well beyond it's ratings...that tends to happen when you haul tractors and farm machinery..and yes even round bales of hay.. :B

12v circuit breaker for magnetek

I am getting ready to start wiring the 12v side of my fraklin and the magnetek site says to put a fuse or circuit breaker between the batteries and fuse box..the unit is used so i have to figure it out as i go.. thinking of using high amp fuse holder that came with the 4 guage audio power cable i am using for supply cables...any thoughts?

RE: Converting my Class A

the conversion you want to do is pricey idea.. i wouldn't touch a job like that for less than 20 grand... first off the travel trailer idea won't really work having know several people with converted chevy and ford van conversion "trailers"... the axle set back will make it tow badly at best.. if you absolutely want to go this route the best way to go as i told them is go fifth wheel though with yours you will need something no smaller than class 5 truck {f550 c5500 etc} to handle the pin weight..as has been stated the engine and trans will not cover cost of conversion.. figure 12/14 thousand lbs after stripping before conversion.. plus it will have to be inspected for the new plates..so sell and find trailer with same floor plan.. their web site states your unit weighs around 18 with 22gvwr

RE: 28-32 mpg w/ diesels??

wow 28 and 32.. the best i ever got in my 93 cummins dodge was 26 on the e way going 60 with a tail wind empty..gets about 23 now that the front end is shot..never seen a ford get better than 25..my brother's 2000 f250 got 22/23 at best with 7.3 and manual trans of course that was 260,000 plus miles ago too...

RE: New member needs toilet install info

helped convert an old blue bird into a motorhome...putting in a bathroom is easy.. best place to put it would be over one of the rear luggage compartments..they are large enough to put a large black tank in..ppl rv has a large catlog here is one place for the tankhttp://www.plastic-mart.com/category/32/rv-water-waste-holding-tanks they my have something you could use

RE: Vintage camper repair

like 1971amerigo's camper my franklin's black tank was attached to the bottom of the toilet.. you may have to remove the floor from underneath to replace it..
