RE: Gettsburg

We have stayed at Getysburg CG three times (first as a rally site) and will stay there again on our next visit.

RE: Grand Canyon/Southern Utah in July

I agree with an earlier post that you have bitten off a lot to chew on. IMHO it would be much better to break this up into two vacation trips. This area is so beautiful you don't want to rush through it. I would suggest a minimum of three full days on the south rim of GC. The north rim is pretty, but you will be doing a lot of driving just to see the south rim from there.
Utah in July is HOT! Stay where you can have a/c. We stayed at Canyonlands CG in Moab and visited Canyonlands & Arches NPs from there. CG was a little tight, but was convient to both parks and right in town.
One reason I suggest two trips is that you don't mention Monument Valley. If you have ever seen a John Wayne movie you MUST visit there (stay at Gouldings) and have a native guide take you on a 1/2 day tour (morning) of the valley. You are so close to it from the Grand Canyon it would be terrible to miss.
You know best what you can handle, but I would hate this wonderful area to be just a memory blur through your windshield. Take your time and enjoy.

RE: Camping at the Grand Canyon

Mather CG inside the park is our choice hands down. No h/u but nice sites unless you have a huge rig. Nice restrooms. Showers near the entrance to CG. Right in the action and the shuttle picks you up at the CG entrance.
Trailer Village next door has w/e, but sort of like a parking lot with grass IMHO.
No matter where you stay, Grand Canyon is great. A week will allow you plenty of time for q nice leisurely visit.

RE: Upper Michigan State Parks

We second Porcupine Mtns. Wilderness SP and Ft. Wilkins SP as well. Found both of them great! Don't know about August weather, but when we were there in mid July, it was great.

RE: Assateague National Park

Should not be any problem. Great place to stay this time of year. Just make sure you have propane for your furnace and your batteries are up to snuff. Can be a little chilly.

RE: edisto beach/hunting island

Both are nice but we prefer Hunting Island. The beach there is great and I think the sites are a little larger for the most part.

RE: state campgrounds alike?

Never had the pleasure of camping in an Oregon state park---yet. We try whenever possible to use them here at home (Virginia) and wherever we travel. We don't need (want) the ammenities offered by the so called resorts and private campgrounds. Have been on the road a lot in the last seven seasons and have rarely been disappointed in a state (or federal) campground.

RE: Virginia Beach campgrounds

At a beach you have sand. I'm sure you can deal with it. That said, First Landing is a really nice state park with some really private sites available. Some sites have water/electric (check their web site) and they have a dump near the entrance. IMHO it is a little pricey for a state park, but much less than a private CG.
There are some very nice hiking/bicycle trails and the beach (on the bay not ocean) is very nice an with easy access. We are going there again later this month. Enjoy!

Just had our 3rd stay at Gettysburg CG. Very quiet and level.
Second the Dobbin House recommendation. The prime rib was great!

RE: Favorite Savannah Georgia campgrounds

If you can live w/o cable TV I strongly urge you to use either Skidaway SP or Ft. McAlister SP (our favorite). Your tanks on a 42 ft. should easily last for the time your're staying. Both have w/e (30 amp) and the sites at Ft. McAlister are huge!
Have stayed at Bellaire Woods and would use a Ft. McAlister over it any day.
Wherever you stay, eat dinner one night at Loves. The crab "stew" is to die for and the Geogia white shrimp are fantastic as well.

RE: PA to Yellowstone and back in 2 weeks can it be done?

Can probably be done, but I wouldn't recommend it. Everything after the fourth or fifth day will just be a blur. What you want to see is just too awesome to just breeze by. Yellowstone alone requires an absolute MINIMUM of four days.

RE: UP Michigan

We stayed at the following on our trip there in 2007 and liked them all. Porcupine Wilderness SP in Ontangon, Fort Wilkins SHP in Copper Harbor, City run park in Munsing, and Hurricane River CG in Pictured Rocks NLS (dry camping).
Copper Harbor had a GREAT restaruant on the shore. Name escapes me. but it sounded Germanic (Harbor Haus??). Someone at the campground will know.

Only been there in Mar/Apr, so can't help on weather, but though a little remote, it is one of our favorite parks. Great beach!

RE: KOAs

They run the gamut and yes I stay in them on occasion. I've stayed at some excellent ones (Plattenkill, NY and Bar Harbor, ME for instance) and I've stayed at a real dump or two when I missjudged my stamina for driving and had no other nearby choice available.
They all are IMHO greatly over priced, however. They may not be overpriced for people with kids who need the pools, gamerooms etc. but we don't really need and/or use such ameneties.

RE: Traveling to the NE States this fall

Bar Harbor, Acadia NP in particular, is our favorite spot in New England (after Labor Day of course). We like the KOA jusy across the causeway to MDI. Little pricey, but some great water sites with awsome sunsets.

RE: Bar Harbor KOA

There is LIMITED rv parking on the west side of Main Street (SR 3) just south (five or six blocks)of the main business area. In July it is EXTREMELY LIMITED! Your best bet would be to check the schedules and ride the shuttle. It's very reliable. Just leave yourself a little extra time.

RE: Loft Mountain Shenandoah: Potable Water?

Go to the NPS website and look up SNP. There are campground maps available online that show the designated spots (and times) for generators. You can make reservations for these sites in advance.
