RE: Adding a 3rd AC

Nice way to work around a problem. Do you have any concern with critters getting into the unit thru the in/out grate openings?

RE: new or used

Current 5er was used. One on order is new. I have no regrets either way. The used one was a learning experience. Didn't want to spend big bucks buying new since we didn't know if we'd like RVing. Well, we do and I want to take my bike, so the new one is a toyhauler. Either way, just use it and enjoy it.

RE: Florida State parks reservations

You must be doing something incorrectly. When I use Reserve America for a Fla State Park, I enter the park name, length needed, electric amp needed, amenities needed, dates, and hit search. Available sites that meet my criteria appear on the right side of the screen. The site list includes the length.
http://floridastateparks.reserveamerica.com/
If you eliminate the park name, the results will list all the parks that meet your criteria with available sites. Click on the "Details" tab under the park name and it shows sites including length.

RE: Is there a good way to transport a golf cart with a 5er?

We looked at many toyhaulers and they were most designed for families, not couples. After I researched platforms to haul our Goldwing, it opened up conventional 5th wheels for consideration.
My wife and I think the Road Warrior 390 and Cyclone 4000 are made for 2. We opted for the 4000. Looking forward to getting it next month and no more leaving my Wing at home.

RE: Cutting hole for dryer vent

Thanks all. Hole saw it is. The new unit likely has a designated spot to cut the vent hole. At least the 2013 version I saw had the spot designated. I ass-u-me the 2014 version does as well.

Cutting hole for dryer vent

What method is best for cutting a dryer vent hole in a 5er wall? I was thinking about a properly sized hole saw attached to an electric drill.

RE: Travel with guns

Ok.. This subject gets tricky....
Motor homes.... Gun can be in the rear of living quarters... While in motion must be unloaded.... Parked, setup not in travel mode... It's your home. Residence logic applies... The gun can't be loaded anywhere near the vehicle/cab unless your are active LE or have a ccw honored in the states your are traveling through.
Trailer... All day long... Separate objects... I'd probably get a warrant to search the trailer, but I'd need PC anyway.... If I have probable cause to search the truck, I don't need a warrant..
This topic can get really in depth...
Part of the reason it gets so in depth is because of the varying state (and sometimes local) laws. Some states do NOT require a non-LEO to have a CCW for a LOADED gun in your vehicle. Yes, that is right! Some states treat a vehicle to be the same as your home.
As always, YMMV and it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to know and follow the law wherever you are. Don't take the word of someone on the Internet. Not everything you read on the Internet is true.

RE: Toy Hauler or 5th Wheel

Well, worse yet, Swivel Wheel won't sell one of their units to someone with a 5ver anymore so the point is mute. Class A or C only...
Huh???

RE: Toy Hauler or 5th Wheel

The reason it isn't triple tow is because there isn't a second pivot point. In other words, the swivel wheel platform can't pivot side to side behind the trailer.
I don't want this to turn into a "what is triple tow" thread, but your statement above is not true in all states. That is why the manufacturer(s) have statements on their websites that buyers need to check their own state laws. Good luck getting an official statement from an authority that speaks for the state.

RE: Toy Hauler or 5th Wheel

Was just told by a salesman at camping world that if you attach a hitch to your 5th wheel it voids the warranty. Anyone know if there is any truth to that?
Would likely depend on the manufacturer. Some units are not designed to handle the additional weight. Others are designed and able to handle the weight. Some even come with a receiver hitch built in/installed.

RE: Too late for Florida trip? Need advice.

Lots of folks travel to Fla in the summer. That is when school is out. I doubt you'll have problems with crowded roads...they're always crowded.
RVing doesn't seem that popular in the summer. Snowbirds are gone. I was able to easily book sites at the last minute in 3 state parks. IMO, state parks are a good deal. Make sure your unit's a/c is in top shape.

RE: Toy Hauler or 5th Wheel

I found a one wheel trailer you can hook to back of the 5th wheel for golf cart. Its called fast master swivel wheel. Just worried DOT would mess with us. Triple tow isnt legal in Florida but was told that isnt considered triple tow because its only one wheel???????
I was going to take a chance on that route, too, but opted against it. Yes, MUCH easier to spend $5K versus $50K, right up to the blue lights in the rear view. Sure, lots of folks have done it with no problems, but it only takes one.

RE: Toy Hauler or 5th Wheel

That is my dilemma. We travel with ours and spend up to 1-2 months in it at a time. We would love to take our bike along but when you jump to a TH all you have to sit at is a couch and usually not a very comfortable one. Not to mention usually a smaller TV which a lot of the time is mounted over the doorway. The bedrooms and bathrooms are usually about the same. But for relaxing in the 5th wheel can't be beat with recliners and comfortable couch and usually a bigger TV. So for now we have to for-go the bike for the comforts of home.
I thought the same thing until I got walked into a Road Warrior 390 and a Cyclone 4000. Both have BIG tvs in the living room. Both can be ordered without living room furniture, but the factory does not give much of a credit. The Cyclone has a 50" tv in front of the couch. Installed furniture isn't bad either. Mine is supposed to arrive in 6 weeks or less. When I get tired of the factory furniture, I'll buy a Lazy Boy, but at least I won't have to leave the bike at home anymore.

RE: Lazy Days Salesman

Do you know of a salesman at Lazy Days Tampa, that you like?
Ivan Pruitt! Have my TH on order. He was VERY patient with us at the Tampa Supershow several months ago and I rememberd his good treatment when wife and I firmly decided we wanted a TH. The out-the-door price (including trade) I negotiated with him/Lazy Days was in line with the price I was quoted from Holman's and RV Wholesalers. The order/sale/negotiations were done via email and phone.

RE: Monthly family camping trips

and tired of sitting on the couch, we decided to head out monthly
+1. We take a 6 week+ trip annually, but that is no reason to let the 5er sit the rest of the time. Once we get our new TH, we'll take shorter trips more often. Yes, I am spending more money to use it, but WTH did I buy it for if I'm NOT going to use it?

RE: Replacement Steps

I know I could place a step on the ground, but my youngest has cerebral palsy and I want bottom step to be as firm as possible and worry about a single step being too unstable for her.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
Camping World (and others) have very stable steps and step stools you can put on the ground. I have seen some that are a little longer and wider than trailer steps. IMO, some trailer steps are less sturdy/steady than CW steps.
