RE: portable generator

I happen to town a Yamaha 3000 generator from when I owned a travel trailer, so I do carry it on my motorhome. As far as fuel goes, the onboard generator uses about 12 gallons in 24 hrs. The yamaha uses 3 and a half gallons in the same 24 hours. Tho I dont think buying a generator just for the purpose of saving gas is a sound decision, if you have it, then use it. I would also think an 8000 btu air conditioner would have a hard time cooling your MH. The one on the roof is probably a 13.5 btu unit, so you are talking about half the size. My Yamaha will run a 15000 btu air conditioner, but I have the one that is the boost model, and it does use the boost technology to get the generator started. Also, I must say the Yamaha is a lot quieter than the onboard onan. Whatever you decide, good luck Hi All. X2. We are just about like yo are. But a different brand of Generator. We had our Twin Honda EU2000I', Paralla Kit and Extended Run Tank from when we had our 5er. Since they we paid for since day one, we decided to just keep them. We agree, we wouldn't just go out and buy small Generators to save some gas. But, boy is there a huge differance in the cost of Gas running the twin Hondas comaired to the 5.5 Built-In. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill.

RE: portable generator

Hi All. Well, your on to a good thing, except for the thinking of running a "Portable Generator" inside your Motorhome. That for sure is a very big NO-NO. Take a look at our Signature and see what we have for extra power. We can easily exceed our Motorhomes 30 AMP Limit. And we have all of the Power that we could every really use. But it sure is nice to have them both. We mostly do all Boon-Docking, On/Off all year long. We do use both kinds of Generators, to keep them running perfectely. You just can't beat the simple use of the Built-In Generator, no mater what the weather is like outside. We never, ever have to ever worry about not having enough Generator Power, thats for sure. We kind of figured that we have the best of both. We never leave home without the extra Generators. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Lighter Floor Decking

Hi All. Since you seem to still be interested in that Motorhome wiht the 460 that gets 14 MPG. I also have a Motorhome with the 460 EFY in it, and ours gets its best MPG on long runs, in the moutains at 10,000 ft, and we get at least 28 MPG, Want to take a look at ours. I'll even give an extra special price for the extra good MPG it gets. I also re-did all of the OEM Flooring too. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Adding wireless security cams to 5th wheel

Hi All. We don't have any problems seeing anyone that comes to our door at nightime, as we have a good "LED Motion Detector Porch Lights" on each side of our Motorhome. I can see very easily fron the middle of the Motorhome if someone is at the door. Two things are good about it, one it gives a good person some light to see so the don't trip or fall. And if its a bad guy, I would think the instant on of the LED Lights from the Motion Detector would hurry them along to some other RV, in a hurry. Works good for us. Good Luck. Happy Travels. RE: Stiff swivel seats

Hi All. We really haven't had any issues with our Front Seat. But from the day that we bought our Motorhome, and durning "Proventive Maintance Programs" that I do, I just keep them Lubed with a "Dry Lube Silacone Spray". It keeps the seats moving free and easily without being to lose. It works great for our needs. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Do Toad's Really Get Beat Up Back There? Looking at new CR-V

Hi All. We are the second owner of our 1999 Honda CR-V. The original owner bought it brand new, and had towed it over 100,000 miles with it, since he first bought it. Just remember that Honda CR-V's don't rack up any miliage while being towed 4 wheels down. Our Honda CR-V has a little over 154,000 miles on the clock. It doesen't use a drop of oil betewwn oil changes and doesn't smoke either. It only has two very, very small chips marks on the very edge of the Hood, no chips on the Glass at a all. And it has beeen towed three time to Alaska. The original owner didn't use any kind of a rock guard. We use the "Grass Skirt Type" that goes all the way acrosss the rear of the Motorhome. But I didn't install our Grass Skirt at the rear of the Motorhome as most people would. I instaled it right behind the rear wheels, so basically no rocks or anything gets thrown on the Honda, period. We hope to see at least another 100,000 more miles out of our CR-V. And if not, I will buy, and put in a used engine, if and when this engine gets to tired to run anymore. Thats how nice it still looks and drives. That woulld be chaper than replacing the CR-V. For it age and Miliage, it passes the Smog Test with flying colors, and with an almost a perfect Smog Score. It also still looks about as Mint Condition as it can be for it age. When not used it is keep in the garage, just as we keep our Motorhome in its real Stick Built RV Port with Full Hook-Ups. Yep, Honda CR-V's make great Toads. They get good MPG and handle very well, and nice to have an all wheel drive, which comes in handy in the winter time with the Snow and Ice that we get. I guess after all of this ranting, I guess you can tell we love our Honda CR-V. Where ever the Motorhome goes, the Honda CR-V goes to, Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: propane versus diesel generators run time??

Hi All. As said, Diesel and Gas are much easier to come by then Propane is, expecially in unknown areas your traveling in. We agree by going with what the Motorhome usess, Period. Since our Motorhome is a Gasser, and our Toad is a Gasser, plus I carry a 6 1/2 Gallon Extended Run Tank for our Twin Honda EU2000is, and Paralla Kit. We don't worry at all aboout not haveing enough fuel. The Twin Honda's will run a lot longer on less gas than the Motorhomes built-in Generator. We do use them both, to keep them in good running condition. We haven"t had the need so far in the past 3 years to ADD any Propane to our tank. And we use our Motorhome off and on all year long, but thats another story for another time. Myself, I wouldn't own a Propane Generator. Its all about choices, and if your happy with your Propane Generator, then thats Great. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill So far in the last 45+ years as RV'ers, we have never had to worry about any fuels, period.

RE: Disgusted with my Doren TPMS system

Hi All. I called TST TPMS and I was given a 20% Discount for just mailing back to them my old Duran TPMS, which I never really liked very much anyways. They also gave me a 3 year Warrantry instead of a 2 year Warranty. We bought the TST 507, with the Changeable Battries. Life is sure much simpler now than before with the Duran. Call them and see what kind of a Deal they will give you. Before I called TST, I called Duran, my Battries were not even avaible for my unit any more, and the the best that they could do, we be that they would give a 10% Discount on the New Duran Systen, NO THANK YOU. We Love our TST #507 System. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Retire?

Hi All. I don't know for sure. But I can tell you this for sure, we paid Cash for our Motorhome before either of us were retired. On the other hand, what real differance does it make anyways ?. No matter when you bought your Motorhome, just enjoy the heck out of it for as long as you can, while you can. Who knows what tomorrow might bring to any of us. Live everyday, as its your last day. You'll be a pretty Happy RV'er. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Powerhouse 7000 Watt Generator

Hi All. 74 dba is a really a big differance in noise. If noise is an issue, you sure don't want to waste you money on that one, thats for sure. I wouldn't want to be wiht-in a Mile from you while it running. I see you have a pair of Honda EU2000i's w/Paralla Kit, so do we, and we mostly do all Boon-Docking and even the Hondas can get on your nerves after Hours and hours of listing to them also. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Which is a good web site to obtain a travel route?

Hi All. For many years now, we have used an older TOM-TOM-ONE GPS System, and a Delorme GPS System also. We did up-grade to a much newer 5 inch TOM-TOM-ONE XL, and still us the Delorme GPS System, on a 17 inch Laptop, with regular updates. We keep the old 3 1/2 inch TOM-TOM-ONE in our Toad. So we always have a GPS Systenm wiht us where ever we go. So far we have never been given any wrong information, such as wrong turns or mileage differace. We also use Google Maps, and a Good Sam Atlas, and the Next Exit. We still have never been off corase so far. We also have a lot of the Free Books and Maps that you use to get at AAA for Free to Members. Its nice to be able to see where you are actuaully going to and what it looks like before you get there. We mostly do all Boon-Docking and have never had any issues finding place to stay for a night, at least until we get to where we are going. We also carry a wireless Printer so we can print out some of our routes, for some of those Senior Moments. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Main door/screen door latch

Hi All. On our Rexhall Motorhome, we have "Magnets" on both the Entry Door and the Screen door. It makes it very simple to seperate the Screen Door from the Entry Door. Ours came that way right from the Manufactor. This might fix your problem also. The Magnets and not very expensive and is a pretty simple fix. I even added a few extra Magnets to ours to make it stick together even tigher. i also removed the OEM Crappy "White Door Slider and side peice, to Clear ones, So we could see out even better. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Water Heater

Hi All. You must be trying to take longer showers. As we have been RV'ers for over 45+ years now, and in every RV we have ever owned we have had a 6 Gallon Hot Water Heater. The DW and I have never had any issues with running out of hot water. She takes her shower first, then I wait about 15 minutes and then take mine, and I use more water than she does, and I have never run out of hot water either. Its all about how you use your Water Heater. We have done almost nothing but Boon-Docking, so its easy for use to conserve on our water usuage. And we don't take Navy Showers either. One trick that we do, is we have a couple of 5 Gallon Hot Water Solar Shower Bags. We only use them if we want longer showers, and at times for saving our Propane also. But with our Motorhome with its much lager tanks, it isn't a problem any more for us, even though we still have a 6 Gallon Hot Water Heater. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: entry door replacement glass

Hi All. Well, our Motorhome came right from the Manufactor with Clear Glass in the Motorhomes side door. This topic has been brought up before. There is a place that has both regular replacement glass for doors and one that had Glass that opens. I can't remember where it is on this fourm, but a search should bring it up for you, with a little checking. Our last 5er, I took the Frosted Glass out of the door, as you can't see out. I replaced it with Clear Glass. We never had any issues with it ever breaking. We would want any Frosted Glass in any RV Entry Door, Period. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: NEW GAS COACH

Hi All. Its even simpler than what has already been said. Want to increse you Motorhomes MPG, and save some money to, "SLOW DOWN", Period. You would get better MPG if you traveled between 55 and 60 MPH. Traveling at 65 to 70 MPH is going to eat up your Diesel even faster. Its the same thing for Gasser Motorhomes also. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Stinky Slinky Maintenance

I have a lot of better things to do than Polish a darn Stinky slinky It really doesn't take all that much time. It takes longer to string it between two trees than anything else. If I was to camp next to you, I could show you were you have extra time to properly maintain your hose. Hi All. Wel, if you did park next to me,it sure as heck wouldn't happen. "Properly Maintain a Stinky-Slinky" You must be high on your cleaning agents. I'd probably be on the ground laughing at you and your idea. I do believe after more than 45+ years as an RV'er, I think I know just a tad about how to take care of my things. As I said, I have better things to do with my time. Good Luck. Happy Travels. RE: Coffee Makers Revisited

Hi A;;. After 45+ plus years as RV'ers, we have always used a "Cloeman Camp Coffee Pot", Period. For out-side or inside. We do have an "Electric Drip Coffee Maker" in our Motorhome, but hardly ever use it. Neither of us are into "Fancy Coffee" at all. We also don't hardly every buy any coffe out while traveling. Yep, we are cheap, but love a good Drip Coffee Pot on the Camp Stove or on the Stove Top in the Motorhome. We are not going to change after all of these years. We have only had to replace our Coleman Camp Drip Coffee Pot only one time. As we flat out wore the old one out. We also do almost all Boon-Docking also. Power is never an issue with us, we can even eaisly go past our Motorhomes 30 AMP Limit. Check out our Signature. Its nice to have all the power that you want, anytime you want it, when ever you want. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Stinky Slinky Maintenance

Hi All. We have been RV'ers for over 45+ years so far. And have never cleaned or put anything on a Slinky. First off, we don't go out and buy the Cheapest hose we can find, or the most Expensive one either. Those are the kind that turn to junk after one or two seasons. We also don't leave our hose out for long periods of time. Dump, then put it away. The way I have our Hose Carrier is a snap to take the hose in or out. As the old saying goes, you usually get what you pay for. I have a lot of better things to do than Polish a darn Stinky-Slinky. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Curbside dinette

Hi All. I guess we are lucky, as our Rexhall Motorhme does have a Curb-Side Dinette & Chairs. It also has one of the largest windows in our Motorhome, to view out of while we sit there. We really like the set-up of our Motorhome. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: 2001 Class A

Hi All. "Congrats" on your Rexhall Motorhome. When we decided to go into a Class A Motorhome, we knew we only wanted a Rexhall, Period. It only took us 3 years to find the one that we wanted. Mostly because we didn't want to travel all over the USA looking for one. And it turned out to be only two blocks away from our house. We could have bought just about any Motorhome that we wanted to. We bought our Rexhall Motorhome for a "Once in a Life-Time Buy" Paid Cash for our Rexhall. We also did an "Inside Make-Over" also. We wouldn't trade our Rexhall for anything else out there. We have never had so much as one problem with our Rexhall. I have done all of my own work on every RV we have ever owned in the past 45+ years as RV'ers. Our Rexhall will last us the rest of our RV'ing Days and then some. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill
