RE: Part of our 5th wheel maintenance

I know that we can both feel if something changes in our truck.
Wine? Really? I love my home too much to take a chance to stain my carpet
The post read; I travel several miles OR wait for him to call. I assure you, neither of us of us would forget he was inside and really sarcasm isn't necessary it was just a friendly inquiring post. Di.
I too agree with Dutch & Di - I usually stop the emails from a topic when it gets to the point in which peoples opinions get out of hand and are of no HELP what so ever...
Simply if you don't think it is safe to ride in a fifth wheel or have never had the experience to do so then just read and move on already... There is enough sarcasm and negativity in the world this is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby to post and read here come off it!!!

RE: Part of our 5th wheel maintenance

I do the same thing ever since a bad wheel bearing caused major problems, doing the ride since has saved a big job again with bearings. I had a bad wheel bearing and caught it before disaster the second time. I guess growing up on the farm you have a different perspective on things. We road in the old holiday trailer many times as kids with Mom while it was moved around. You don't need to be flying down the highway to hear something or check things out... Come on be adventurous!!! ;)

RE: Hot Water Heater Problems - Weird or What?

you might try using compressed air and blow down the gas tube and up inside the burner because spiders just love to make nest in there and that will make it back-fire also check for mud duaber nests inside the burner tube.
I was thinking that too, I'm going to giver a blow today before we leave. :B

RE: Hot Water Heater Problems - Weird or What?

Hello there, I have had the same problem by the sounds of it. I haven't taken it in to fix even though we have warranty. I can do it myself if I have to for what it's worth.
Ours will usually light the first time right off. (Cold) It seems that once it gets hot and then relights again to recover it will try the 3 times and then quit... or sometimes by the 3rd try it will back fire.
There are times when it works perfectly, I was thinking that it was the wind/breeze causing it to back fire but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I have also tried taking off the cover and let it light again thinking that it isn't getting enough air. It seemed like a hit or miss again not consistent.
My suspicion is the DSI is dirty and need a little wire brush treatment, the spark is sometimes not consistent.
When I have power I use the electric + gas together and thought that was causing it not to light or back fire.
I recently had a bad switch for the electric and before I could get a new switch we went with out one weekend with only the gas and it made no difference at all.
I have changed the regulator out as this was the problem one time before but all the other appliances are working properly. I need to check the spark after I give the DSI a wire brush cleaning and see what the does.
I will re post if that makes a difference. If you get any other info I would be interested in what worked for you.

12 volt power

I have noticed that when I have my 2 lights on that are over head operated by the switch coming in the door that they really dim when the pump turns on. This doesn't seem to affect any other electrical things in the trailer. I read in the manual for the pump that it is to be on it's own circuit. It was bad enough one day that while plugged in at home I had the Air cond and the lights on and when the pump kicked in it kicked the breaker off in the house. Mind you I just got back from a trip that we were boon docking and the converter was probably charging the battery also. This past weekend I noticed on battery power that the lights would really dim when the pump ran and the batt test would drop down to L until the pump shut off. Just the way this is behaving i'm guessing that they are on the same circuit. Has anyone else had this and is there an easy way to isolate the 2 items to separate circuits in the converter/panel? In the past I have added a 12 volt outlet in a previous trailer and there were spare fuse area's, I hope that if I find the wires that correspond with these 2 things I would be able to put them on a different circuit to eliminate the problem.
Thanks a bunch in advance cause I always get a lot of advise.
Please don't high jack the post on me) :B

Dead bolt lock!

Ok I have a fifth wheel so this is where I'm posting this. I don't know if there is a specific area to put this...
Question is, my dead bolt lock set pulled right out of the door latch assembly and was stuck on the key. I have tried to pop it back in as it looks like it should just lock back in when you put the key in and slide the retaining piece on the end of the lock set. This is not working. Now has anyone had this happen if so did you have to get a new door latch assembly?
Thanks a bunch all!!!:C

RE: Endura stove vent.

Well I installed the new vent... It could have gone better but it did work in the end. What I thought would be an easy mod turned out to be a little time consuming. I had to enlarge the cut out as it was not the same size as the ventline cover. The cut out was framed out on my unit and it didn't leave me much room. I enlarge it as much as I could and it did fit with some persistence. The other problem I had was the socket for the driver as to thick as the holes for the screw head was inset and the socket wouldn't fit. I had to find one that would clear enough to get it tight. The fit being tight was enough that I had to do a little adjusting as the damper would not catch properly on one side as it was a little distorted... The instructions warned about over tightening but that wasn't why... It was because the cut out was a little small. I do like the look of it and how easy it is to open and lock closed. One bonus was the screw pattern was the same. If I was to recommend I would say yes. It is early but we shall see.
Have fun if you attempt and good luck!!!

Endura stove vent.

Has anyone replaced a vent with this new style vent from Endura.
I'm wondering if it is worth the extra money. The one I have is yellowed and looks like poop and these are not supposed to yellow. It is shinny too so it will match the gloss on the trailer. Also you think the 5/8 inch flange will be enough? Or would I need the 1 1/2 inch

RE: Air Conditioner

One other thing to try before spending the $$$ on another unit. Check out the duct work and the return air area under the grill, sometimes the care in making sure everything is properly sealed between the return and cold air out is not the best. Also the air ducts vents. I did a bunch of that on ours and the whole thing was a mess with holes into the attic, vents holes being cut to big and air leaking. It made a huge difference in air flow. I now will replace the vents with the big louvered style to get max air flow. I know it's a big job and a lot of new aluminium tape!!!
Good Luck!!!

Fifth Airborne

I was wondering if anyone has upgraded the bolts when putting one of these on. Papers that come with the hitch tells that the bolts should be replaced with grade 8 bolts. The torque specs for the different sized bolts as grade 8. The ones that the dealer used were the ones that were with the trailer and they are only a grade 5.
Is this something that I should be worried about or should I change them out???
