RE: Anyone here ever added a coil fan to thier fridge?

This article may help.
I have read elswhere that the cooling fan should never blow across the coils, but draw the air over the coils. If I find that article, I will post it.
Paul
EDIT
KitWhy is it that a fan mounted on the bottom doess not as well as from the top? I added a fan to the compartmrnt right behind the side vent but I have not had a chance to see if there was a improvement.

RE: Transport vs Wanderer - whats the difference on older?

didn't want to dump it when the front cap started to delaminate (smooth sides). Got estimates up to $5000 for the fix. Found a guy in Hemit, Ca that fixed it for me for $625.00 with Alum.
I have the same problem with mine, it happened while camping on the beach in the rain, water leaked in throught the shower skylight. I re-did all of the dicor with eternabond but, the, damage was already done! i HAve learned to live with it:(
The one I'm looking at had the same issue with the front. That was also my idea, to put an "aluminum diamond plate deflector" across the front like other campers have.
floor buckling especially in the cargo area, partical board don't far well when moisture gets in there.
I hate particle board!
Back in the early 2000's....
"Richheck" - that explains allot. I'm almost amazed someone would actually know all that information! I do like the thought of the aluminum framing.
The only issue that seems to be nagging us on this on is that the "loft bed" does not drop down, leaving only about 24" between the bed and the roof. Hummm.
Thanks again for your input, lets see what happens!

RE: Fridge Fan Install Wire Question

I have the thetford model# N611 and if you go back to the second page of this thread posted a picture of my setup and I have a detailed description of which wires to splice into.
JLew
Fine, but what Model Year is your N611? Is it, like mine, a 2008MY or later? If so, please reference the Norcold link I provided, "select the Owner Manual -- Current" --- take a look at the schematics and then ... because I'm a little slow ... tell me if I need to modify any of your instructions.
Here is a shot of the wiring of my set-up. Again, I can find power ONLY when the door is open, but not shut (which, makes no sense). No power from either B/W wire. Please note, my 2008+ unit does not have the 'black' wire.

Yes, mine is different than yours, I have a solid black instead of black w/white. Now you said that it only has power when the door is open not closed BUT, are you checking this while the fridge is running?? I ask this because mine will also run with the door open IF the fridge is shut off.
hope this helps

RE: Fridge Fan Install Wire Question

You guys are lucky you can install these fans. I have to use the $15 walmart fan and I do not think it works as well moving air.
After 6 days I have frost built up on my fins which I am sure makes it not work as well.
I have a newer norcold so I cannot figure out how to install and neither has the seller of this fan
Richard (eBay seller of the fan I believe you and I both own) is working to figure it out. I have a 2008 Jayco with a Norcold N61 series. I have not been able to find a wire that stays hot once the door is closed. I have sent Richard/eBay'er the wiring diagram from Norcold and he is really trying to help make it work. Anyone here able to take a look at the diagrams Norcold N61 (maybe power will have to come from the door (?) and advise how to successfully install this fan to run with the door shut? Much appreciated.

RE: Fridge Fan Install Wire Question

It works with the door open. I can't see it when the door is closed ;) But, I closed it and opened it real quick and it was still going strong, not winding up.
I didn't look real close to find the darned door switch to test it "closed". Will look again tonight after work. Does anyone know where it is?
Ellie
Does you fridge have a light set up like the picture of mine? if so, splice into the black wire.

RE: Fridge Fan Install Wire Question

ok, I am home and the fan works just fine with the refrigerator on. There is no black wire. There are two black and white wires and two red wires.
I guess I will leave it as is.
Ellie
You said that it works fine but... is that with the door open that you see the fan running? or when the door is closed? I know that the way I wired mine, that the fan shuts off when the door is opened.

RE: Fridge Fan Install Wire Question

I am going to install this fan Link
With the fridge off, I touched the fan wire to the red wire and it ran. Good, that means that this is my wire. Now, there are four wires but they are inside this little white plastic thingie that you pull apart. How do I get the new wire in there with it? Do I try to pull the red wire out? (It did not come out when pulled firmly) or just cut the red wire BEFORE the white plastic thingie and use electrical tape?
Thanks very much,
Ellie
You d not want the red wire, if the fridge is off and the fan turns on, when you turn the fridge on the fan will not work. I know on my fridge (Norcold) the black wire is what you want.

RE: Fridge Fan Install Wire Question

I did this mod but I did it differently, I purchased the same fan only much cheaper...hard disk fan and I have read that it works better if you put the fan on the bottom shelf to circulate the air better, The small fans have 2 red and 2 black wires going to a 4 prong pc connector. I took the 2 sets of wires cut off the 4 prong connector and twisted the 2 reds together and 2 blacks together then ran some small gauge speaker wire hooking the reds to one side, whites to the other. ran it up to the top where the wires are at. There are four wires, 2 reds, 1 white, and 1 black. hook the one speaker wire that is hooked to the red wires from the fans to the BLACK wire using a inline splice. take the other speaker wire and solder a alligator clip to it. Then when I turn on the fridge all I do is clip the alligator clip to the fins on the back of the fridge and the fans come on when the door is closed...off when the door is open.
here are some picks of my install,

RE: Thor Tahoe Toy Hauler

I have an 03 Wanderer wagon which is basically the same, I would check the front cap seams on the roof to see if it was maintained. The front caps are known for leaking water and they will delaminate.
Here is what I was talking about,

RE: Inside fridge fan

I have a question about the wiring for this mod?... Is the fan suppose to run while the door is closed or, only while the door is open? How could it run while the door is closed if there is no 12volt present until the door opens:? Or do you splice it into the 12volt source before thelight switch?.... AM I missing something?

RE: Tornado Permanent Tank Rinser

Torando - Great idea, bad design...
I bought one and hooked it up to my big garden hose at home and was not impressed with the output. I think they could have done away with the whole spinning thing and just created a good stationary wide angle sprayer that had a lot more water pressure and it would do a better job of moving pooh and also be more reliable (no moving parts. Mine is still sitting in my shed and I'm not going to bother installing.
Are there any "good" alternatives to the Tornado???
yes, mine is just a sprayer head, no spinning hose etc. don't know name

RE: Battery state of charge

I know this has been beat to death, but I still have one question I can not find an answer to.
There are numerous charts posted all over the web that show the approximate state of charge for a wet cell battery based on voltage.
Why are they all so different?
As a few examples, I have three charts that I have printed. They show
100% 12.6v 12.70v 12.63v
50% 12.06v 12.24v 12.18v
Half a volt difference is a pretty big difference.
The general rule of thumb seems to be do not let it drop below 12 volts. But according to one chart, y the time it drops to 12 volts it is at 30% or 23%, both of which are too low.
These charts are sorta like standards. There are so many to choose from.
Hope this helps, is this what your looking for?battery chart

RE: Leaking Quickie Flush.......EWWW!

Well I picked up some of this stuff,Teflon pasteand I put it on pretty thick but,is looks like it still wants to leak like, you can see very small beads forming on the surface of the threads that are exposed. It did leak very slightly then, I loosened about 1/4 turn and it stopped. this stuff says that it remains soft all the time. I di have a new Tornado flusher kit but, the hole pattern is different and I am afraid that the third hole on the QF will not seal good (cause the tornado has four instead of three holes and,I don't know if the holes are the same pattern) The idea of just sealing it up permanently with some epoxy or something of that sort is really starting to look appealing!....Any Ideas???

RE: Leaking Quickie Flush.......EWWW!

How high is the QF mounted on your tank ?
You can try Teflon paste instead of tape...let it set before you use the tank...that might seal a bit better.
Its a little higher then half way, if the tank shows 3/4 full thats when it starts dripping.

Leaking Quickie Flush.......EWWW!

Ok, actually it's not that bad but I have the quickie flush device installed on my black tank and it is leaking where the white threaded piece that requires a allen wrench to remove, screws into the main housing (the part that mounts with 3 screws to the tank) it does not leak while filling the tank but, only when the water level in the tank reaches the point where the quickie flush is mounted at. I tried pipe tape, that did not work, I thought about using plastic welder and sealing it once and for all! I need ideas if anyone has one please send them my way.

RE: Which converter/charger for 4 GC Batteries?

With four batteries I would suggest a PD 9280 with 6 gauge wire running from the converter to the batteries. this unit will give you 80 amps of charge to your batteries. I would also use the wizard pendent so you can control the three levels of charge.
here is a link to the unit, PD9280
