RE: Oklahoma City RV parking question

There isn't parking per se at the memorial. You just use the spots along the streets in downtown OKC. If you go over a weekend or after say 7pm on a weekday, the downtown traffic is almost nil. It may take a while to find enough room for an RV, but it's doable. You also might look into the Bricktown area. I think they have shuttles and such that move folks around downtown. In Bricktown there is a BassPro Shop with lots of parking.

Your Ford will have a port on the drivers side of the transmission body above the pan where most aftermarket probes are screwed in. It's mid way from the front of the pan to the back and located above the junction of pan and tranny. There will be one wire running up towards the firewall/dash area. This loaction gives a very accurate temp. I don't like to see ATF get above 220. If it gets above 230, it won't last long. If you see temps regularly above 210, you should look into getting something done i.e. extra fan, bigger cooler, etc. Pre turbo EGT probes are mounted in the exhaust manifold. Post turbo one fit into the exhaust pipe as it leaves the turbo. Pre turbo is the best spot.

Some additional thoughts: Traffic in OKC (more so) and Wichita can get heavy at rush hours, so we try to go thru very early or very late. Both places have junctions that can be a little confusing (OKC more so) if trying to get thru with a ton of traffic. There's plenty of good fuel stops. The Flying J on 122nd St. in north Oklahoma City has some of the cheapest diesel you'll find. Kansas turnpike rest stops and fuel stations are very nice. Don't miss Carhenge near Alliance, NE. Also, consider a stop at Cabela's outdoor store at Sidney, NE.

We are going to Custer in July and will follow a similar route. We have also been to Yellowstone twice and have family in Nebraska, so we have done this route many times. I 35 is generally OK in OK. There was some bottlenecks due to construction, but mostly clear now. I 35 in KS is toll road. Very nice. I 135 is also very good. US 81 from Salina, KS to I 80 in NE is mostly 2 lanes (they are working to make it all 4 lanes). There's not too much traffic and it's a good RV route. I 80 in NE will be better than I 35 in OK. It's been a few years since, I've been in US 385, but I recall it was OK. We came back to OK from YNP thru Custer SP. It was my first RV towing trip and the route was not a problem. The 1985 S 10 Blazer with a 2.8 liter V6 was the problem.
