RE: For those with GM 2500 HD with 6.0 gasser...

2500s all have GAWRs of 6200 max, thjat's part of what makes them 2500s. But if the axle is a FF, then it's been de-rated. With GM, the FF axle itself is good to 8600#, so just upgrade your rear wheels, rear tires, rear springs and rear brakes, then up the payload accordingly.
Factory ratings are for factory equipment. Improve the equipment, the rating becomes meaningless.

RE: 1991 Astro Question

Astro is NOT full-frame. Only a ladder-style front subframe bolted to a unit-body construction. At least it has a 7.5" solid axle on leaf springs in back. GAWR is 2900#
The optional 200 HP version of the 4.3 was rated for 5800 with the optional 3.42:1 axle ratio. Standard was 3.08:1 with under 165 HP.

RE: Indiana conflicting private carrier towing of non rv use

Doesn't matter if you win a couple hundred dollars prize, once a year. It's not every-day income from hauling, so it's not commercial. They're after hot-shotters, not one-timers.
Enjoy your trip.

RE: For those with GM 2500 HD with 6.0 gasser...

If you don't like revs, get a diesel. Nothing sounds better than a gasoline V8 screaming those glorious revs, it's a sound you just can't get from anything else.
I abuse mine, in that I often tow as much as 14K. And it's not uncommon to find me holding 5500 in first to pull my weekly work loads up the canyon separating this valley from the Salt Lake valley. But that isn't hurting it.
I do my oil changes every 3K, just like in the old days, but there's never anything on my magnetic drain plug, and I cut open every used filter for inspection. Nothing to report.

RE: discuss towing w/ Cad 500 vs other car

World's first ever!
Okay, the stock springs are in, with the airbags at 35 psi, the trailer is 4500#, so pin should be 1500, but I think it's more like 1000.

RE: Weight police opinion?

look at the vertical gaps above the tires: About equal, not tail-down. Could be airbags, but look at the tires, the rears don't look badly-overloaded, and those short-sidewall sizes aren't offered in really high load ratings.
I see no problem here, so long as it's a 5.7L Hemi with a 3.92:1 axle.

RE: Chevy C60

If the C60 is road-worthy, hitch it up to something and go for a test drive. Then hitch up your F350 and exactly repeat that test drive.
Juice brakes gives your C60 many more engine options. The GM RamJet 350 would be my first choice, it'll out-power, out-torque and out-MPG the 366, and it'll bolt right in, no problem.

RE: Spy shots of next gen RAM HD

Looks to me like they've narrowed the wheels to about 5", on that black dually. Stupid not to use more. Back in the '70s, you could get dually wheels that were 6.75" wide.

The transmission has some value. Possibly as much as the scrap value of the rest of it.

RE: Plug for gooseneck ball hole

Stock? None of the big 3 ever offered a gooseneck provision of any sort. It's just the best use for a serious pickup.
Go get a new B&W turnover, and enjoy knowing your pickup is far more capable than if you simply get the hole welded closed.

RE: Chevy C60

Does it have air brakes, or hydraulic? If air, that really limits your options for swapping in a better engine. You'd need to find something already fitted with its own pump. Your only bolt-in upgrade is the tall-deck 427. It can be bored and stroked quite a lot, and it can pull taller gearing, or stay in your current top gear more of the time. It can be built for serious power, but doesn't start out with all that much.
Since the truck needs an engine swap, better to just start with a better truck. Like any '94-'98 Ram 3500 dually with a Cummins and an NV4500.

RE: discuss towing w/ Cad 500 vs other car

New springs arrived!
First pic is the new spring on the new mount with the new airbag, beside the stock rubber isolator that goes on the top of the spring, between spring and car:

RE: What is the real SAE Certified Horsepower? Torque?

Interesting that GM, of all companies, is taking the lead in many areas.I believe that their business model makes for higher priced lifecycle cost of ownership.
GM has always led the most, in the most things that matter.
My dad has decades of proof that owning a GM is far less cost than Ford or Dodge, and always has been.
GM has the best engines, transmissions, axles, and suspension geometries, so they must continue to be.
If GM ever really drops the ball on the most critical stuff, you'll see me raising hell about it before anyone else even wonders what's new.
I'm not anti-Ford or anti-Dodge, I can acknowledge the strengths, successes and triumphs of both. But I can see past brand loyalty to recognize that it's GM still on top.
