RE: Air in propane line

When lighting water heaters I cheat by heating up the thermocouple directly (right above the pilot). Then turn the valve to "ON" and the air/gas purges in seconds. Be sure to have the flame in there when the gas is on so it can't build up!

RE: Mt Ranier NP

When we travelled through there in 2010, we stayed just outside the park in La Wis Wis Campground. It is a beautiful camground tucked tightly into large trees. As the page at link above says, "La Wis Wis is ideal for tents, car campers and truck campers with a slide-in". Paradise is gorgeous (hence the name). http://whiz.to/~35chuck/paradise.jpg We stopped along the one-way loop road on the way down to take this picture: http://whiz.to/~35chuck/paradise2.jpg and this guy (a red fox) came sneaking down from the snowfields: http://whiz.to/~35chuck/red_fox1.jpg These people didn't even notice when he went for the bridge crossing: http://whiz.to/~35chuck/red_fox2.jpg

RE: Chalet's TC Washer and Dryer pictures

Either way, 5,500# to 6,000# is a lot of weight to have in the back of a pickup truck. It certainly takes you way out of the 1 ton truck category. Payload of a gas 2WD DRW 2013 GMC from gmc.com: 6,245 Granted that's max. Once you add people and other "stuff" to the truck it will reduce that some but this camper isn't automatically out of the 1 ton truck category even if it's 6k lbs.

RE: Where Have You Taken Your 4x4 Dually Pickup & TC OffRoad

I can't believe nobody has posted a link to this thread. It really shows where you can take a dually & camper.

RE: See my first modification. Tell me what your was!

My first real mod was to add a second water pump switch inside the bathroom. While I had the range hood down I also added inside-operating latches for the vent flap.

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

For non-commercial vehicles I think it's up to each state. Oregon law says 8 1/2 feet: http://www.leg.state.or.us/ors/818.html Look at 818.080 specifically.

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

This forum is the way it should be, open conversation even if we disagree. Ditto. As long as folks can civily discuss an issue without name-calling or disrespecting others, the discussion should go on; even if the other person is one of those closed-minded hardheaded srw neanderthals. ;) Brad Neanderthals? I thought the DRW guys were the ones with the vestigial tires? :B

RE: Swing bracket install help

I assume you cannot back in all the way because your DRW truck is too wide. Can you borrow a SRW truck to set it on long enough to install the brackets?

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

I've learned a lot from this thread... mostly from the pm's between the dully owners and the op.... and I've found... candadates for addition to my "block member" list.... why waste time with the same disruptive individuals when you kown that they'd argue that the color of paint on a truck affects the mpg :B sleepy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

width is the same a SWR being that the mirrors stick out farther then the hips...so if the mirrors fit so will the hips...backing into a spot leaves plenty of room. That's all great if your are backing perfectly straight into a parking spot. Don't you ever have to back in from the aisle? When you back up, the rear cuts the corner on any truck. This is where a narrower rear end of a truck will have an easier time fitting. The mirrors width is irrelevant. The mirrors are: 1) Located ABOVE most close tollerance things like cars, posts, etc. 2) Located right by the cab and are very visible to the driver. 3) Located closer to the steering axle so they where you can continuousy control where they are positioned. 4) Breakaway or foldable in most cases. NOTE: This doesn't mean you cannot survive just fine with a larger truck. It just simply isn't a fact that there is NO difference.

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

my dually turns exactly the same as my 1500 long bed you may have to swing 6 or so inches wider on a right turn next to a curb Which is it?

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

...but so far the only people saying this is ACTUALLY a consideration are folks who apparently don't drive duallies...so they don't KNOW! That's funny. I counted SIX posts on the first page alone from dually owners who mentioned parking. This isn't rocket science here. Anyone can park a SRW truck into a tight spot and clearly see there isn't enough room for several inches more per side. My driveway is kind of narrow as it passes my house. I've often snuck by with the fender close enough to matter. They've just interpreted some numbers they read and used that to make their own decision...and then present that interpretation as fact. Yeah, because anecdotal stories from those who spent good money on their choice of truck are always more accurate than measurable numbers.:R

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

I can park in any spot that the same length SRW truck can. Unless, of course, the spot is too narrow for your wider DRW. :h Don't know how most of you feel (suspect most are like me) but if the spot is too narrow for a dually, I am surely not going to try and shoe-horn a SRW pickup in there either. I mean, I just don't need parking lot dings and scratches on my vehicle. I'd rather walk a little farther than put up with that problem. There are plenty of spots I would park a SRW where people can open their doors just fine where the same could not be said of a DRW. What part of wider is so hard to understand? A wider truck takes a wider space. Yes the dually may "fit", but you'll be trapping the cars next to you. It's not a major problem or a show stopper. It's just a downside for some as the very title of the thread was asking.

RE: What do you do with the tailgate?

My current camper fits completely in box and I can close the tailgate. I use it as a back porch when we are camping. I will miss this if our next camper is any longer. I always think of those setups as a camper "shirt" tucked into truck "pants". :)

RE: ***update on truck and camper weight***

I recently went to a new Flying J truck stop and reweighed my 2006 Dodge 2500 CTD 4x4 long bed with tailgate off, full tank of diesel, myself at 185 pounds, my 4 year old granddaughter:) who weighs 36 pounds, booster seat 3 pounds, happijac tiedowns, emergency road kit in back seat and truck weighed at CAT scale at 7340 lbs. Today I went and got the camper from storage and loaded it up and went to weigh the combo again. Truck, myself, and camper, no grandaughter:( weighed 10,400 with camper dry. Fridge empty, Fresh water tank empty, 1 gallon in gray and black of water/antifreeze, 2 full propane tanks, 2 12 volt Batteries. No TV Here is the breakdown: Truck: Steer axle: 4500 lbs. Drive axle: 2840 lbs. Truck/camper: Steer axle: 4680 lbs. Drive axle: 5720 lbs. So if my figures are right the campers dry weight is 10,400 - 7340 = 3060...Minus granddaughter weight of 36 equals 3024 lbs. Look right?? Billyray, With all due respect, I’d like to point out an error in your calculations; and that would be the weight of your lovely granddaughter. The goal is to keep (or remove) her weight from both sides of the calculation. And to do that, you must add her weight to the CAT scale figure you got WITH the camper on the truck. You could also remove her weight from the truck alone weighing and come up with the same camper weight figure. Leaving her weight on the truck alone requires adding her weight to the truck w/camper to get the TRUE weight of the camper. 1. Truck alone (w/ granddaughter): GAWF = 4500; GAWR = 2840; GVW = 7340 2. Trk & Cmpr (w/o granddaughter): GAWF = 4680; GAWR = 5720; GVW = 10400 3. Trk & Cmpr (w/ granddaughter): GAWF = UNK; GAWR = UNK; GVW = 10436 You can’t subtract the GVW in #1 from #2 because they are apples & oranges because the granddaughter is in one figure and not in the other. You can subtract the GVW in #1 from #3 because they are both apples or both oranges (your choice :)). Your true camper weight is 3096, NOT 3024. The point is this; the trucks weight MUST remain the same for both scale sessions (with and without the camper). So your granddaughters weight must be in both or out of both. I hope I haven’t further confused you. For a little less confusion, it's simply changing from this: 10,400 - 7340 = 3060 3060 - 36 = 3024 to this: 10,400 - (7340 - 36) = 3096

RE: New Lance, Refused Delivery; Your Opinions Please

"I walked away from the deal based on non disclosure of a structural defect or damage, the dealer is not returning my deposit." ....this is Canada. No one can simply "keep" a deposit if a buyer decides to back out of a purchase for any reason whatsoever. If you, for example, went to buy a new or used car, an aircraft, boat, refrigerator, insurance, ANYTHING, and gave a deposit for later delivery in this country (Provincial laws vary, but they are essentially the same cross-country in principle/intent), and you decide to back out of the deal FOR ANY REASON, you deposit MUST be given back IMMEDIATELY. Even signing a contract, you have a cooling off period where you can back out of the deal NO MATTER WHAT THE REASON. No lawyer needed. Forensics on "the roof depression": Sabconsulting nailed it: this depression likely existed for many seasons (or, years) based on his evaluation of the concentric evaporation stains. If the deposit must be returned for any reason, what exactly is the point it putting one down? Isn't the whole point for the buyer to have a financial incentive to continue the deal? Now obviously if there are quality issues the "deal" should no longer apply.
