RE: Bumper Pull vs. Fifth Wheel

Were I to be confronted with this issue, I would prefer the better handling features of a fifth wheel. That comes from a retired truck driver who has had lots of experience with that type of setup. But then I would also prefer a bigger rig than most are pulling with. At least a super duty or bigger.

RE: Beware of Flying J

Also figure fresh fuel for dp, I like to stick with a company that will pay up if they blow my engine. And I have seen oil refineries actually do that!! But you have to have all your ducks in a row to make the claim against them. The receipt from the station. The bill diagnosing the problem. A sample from the station you brought the fuel, take right after you noted the problem, and a sample from your fuel tank. If the samples confirm the mechanics diagnostics, the company will take care of you.
But "fresh fuel", as a retired petroleum hauler, don't make me laugh!

RE: Funny Town Names?

Wapakoneta, OH
Zzyzx, CA
Shamokin, PA
Cheektowoga, NYCheektowaga - meaning "Land of the Crabapples" ( JI-IK-DO-WAH-GAH ), named by the Seneca Native Americans referring to the apple-like fruit of the Hawthorn trees abundantly growing in the area.
Buffalo "Means, "Beautiful Water," or "Beautiful River." The meaning and derivation of the name continues to be a discussion point among residents and historians. No one argues that the original settlement, and later the city, was named for the creek on which it was located, but how that creek got its name is hotly disputed. One Indian derivation theory postulates that an Indian named "Buffalo" lived on the creek, prompting the early non-natives to call the stream "Buffalo's Creek." This Seneca was said to have been a member of the Wolf clan and called "De-gi-yah-goh," or "Buffalo" by his tribe."
Canada "means, "Village." A village is a small town or community. The word comes from an aboriginal word: "Kanata."
Cattaraugus "Cattaraugus: Derives its name from the Indian word "Gah-ta-ra-ke-ras," signifying "Sinking Shore" or "Sinking Beach," originally applied to Lake Erie"
Cayuga: "Means, "Boat Landing". The name also refers to one of the five original tribes of the Iroquois Confederacy."
Gowanda: "An Indian word meaning, “Beautiful Valley Among the Hills”,"
Tonawanda: "Means, "Land by the Waters". It was given to the town by the Neuter and Erie Indians, the area's original inhabitants."
Tuscarora: "Means, "Shirt Wearers.""
Chautauqua: Means "Bag Tied in the Middle".
Canandaigua: Means "Choosen Village"
Rochester: Means "GA-SKO-SA-GA is Seneca for 'at the falls'"

RE: Trouble Free Motorhome Owner?

I am surprised I thought that the Gulfstream being an aircraft company would understand quality and be the best. I am surprised.
Not the same company.......Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. grew out of Fairmont Mobile Homes.
Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. grew out of Grumman Aircraft Engineering Co.
Two completely different companies with different spellings and names. Now Grumman you might be able to stretch into having some RV connections. But they would be very long stretches of the imagination.

Actually, the title of this thread should read differently. It is not about Flying J at all. It should read: Beware of the Indiana Fuel Tax at the Fuel Pumps!

RE: Registration or residency requirements

Does anyone have a link to a bill or law we can copy? Or reasonable ideas? The legislation needs to be short and to the point so we can get it through without it ending up in committee.Your local state representative should be happy to provide that information to you. They love to provide pre-legislative information because it makes them look good, and they think you will vote for them.
But according to your state web page, http://www.tn.gov/newcomers/, it is already very easy to become a resident of Tennessee. "There are just a few steps for establishing a legal residence in Tennessee. A driver license, voter registration, automobile registration, the appearance of a person’s name on a city or town street list, and rent, utility, mortgage or telephone bills normally provide tangible proof of residence. Tennessee is the only state that has no durational requirement. Meaning there is no time limit before you can be a resident. However, individual public or private agencies or institutions may have their own requirements for proof of residence."
But becoming a non-resident of your previous state could be a bigger problem.
And having a Super Majority of single minded thinkers in the state house can present both good and bad things. It usually turns out different than one would think. Be careful what you pray for, you might just get it, and then not like it.

RE: Towing Honda Fit

If your braking system needs 12V then a battery disconnect is probably not a good idea. A fuse switch or a charging line (like the ToadCharge) are better solutions.
I was going to say, it probably depends on what supplemental braking system you are using and how it is set up electronically.

RE: Red Max Pro NO-NO

Still don't understand why RVers try non RV products out. ESP on the exterior finish. There are a lot of good RV products out there that will do a great job and not drain your wallet.Zep Wet Look (aka Red Max Pro) is much cheaper that the RV and Boat PolI Glow, and many claim it to be the very same product in the bottle.

RE: Beware of Flying J

I wish the CC companies would do something as it is not fair to CC holders or debit card holders to pay more.
You do realize that every retailer out there that takes credit cards pays around 2-3% to the credit card processor for you to use your credit card. When you pay cash at a gas station the retailer does not pay the 2% so they are giving you an option to save money.
That being said I think all fuel prices posted on signs should post the highest fee one would pay and then offer discounts after they suck you in.But when I use my Flying J preferred customer card and my PF credit card, I end up paying the cash price and also get 5% back! I'm saying myself money, and saving them money cause that counter person does not have to deal with me.

RE: Newbie - First time towing car dolly - looking for tips

I to am a newbie to rv'ing. A auto electic shop can wire your van so you can plug it in like a boat trailer. The cost, depending on computor systems in the van was from $200./$450. It's a great way to go if the cost is not prohibative.
And you can do that your self for under $50 plus your time if you know what your doing.

RE: Is this normal? Dealer service question.

As a side note I tried to get another dealer to fix a warranty issue and they refused as they were too busy and said they don't do warranty unless you bought there. It was local (sort of) but it got me thinking about being away from home and needing warranty work done.
I thought that part of being a franschised dealer was supporting the customers. It is usually different if you are traveling. They will try to get you in and get you fixed up and on your way. RV dealer are not set up like the automotive franschised dealers are. But if you buy certain brands of motorhomes, a call to the manufacturer will line you up with a independent shop to do your warranty work. Tiffin and Foretravel are very good that way.

RE: Beware of Flying J

I don't like Flying "J" they have only pre-pay pumps I hate prepay as it is an inconvenience to me when I want to buy something in the store.I much prefer prepay pumps as I get 5% of every dollar back when I use my PenFed Visa Platinum Rewards Card at the pumps! If I pay in the store, I only get 1% back. When I'm purchasing $250 worth of diesel, that 5% on every dollar adds up!

RE: Beware of Flying J

This topic has been discussed several times. There are about 3 states that do this. The over the road trucks pay a different tax rate, which is lower that what you pay at the RV pumps. Indiana is one of those states. I think Arizona is another if I remember correctly. It helps keep your grocery bill down:W!!!
