RE: Frost Heaves and Expansion Joints

What chassis? Is your tire pressure that recommended by your tire manufacturer for your actual axle weights (plus perhaps 5 PSI safety reserve? If air suspension, is ride height correct? Too high and particularly too low will give harsh ride.

RE: Antifreeze

If just draining and replacing, you should stick with the same coolant you have in there now. If you are draining, flushing, and using a coolant cleaner if changing coolant technologies (like going from a "low silicate coolant with SCA for diesels" to an ELC), THEN you have more options. BTW, color is NOT a good indicator of coolant technology. While there is consistency within brands, it is NOT industry wide.

RE: hiway from Reynosa to Puerto Vallarta

Are you wanting to just get there, or do you want to "stop and smell the roses" along the way? If the latter, what destinations are of interest. Places like San Miguel de Allende, Guadalajara come to mind with first night in Mexico in Cuidad Victoria.

RE: negotiations on older motorhome

Ask around about the engine. The Detroit Diesel 8.2 liter 4-stroke V8 is one of the poorest choices out there in a diesel. Either Cat or Cummins or Detroit 2 stroke are far better choices.

RE: roof top satellite????

We just replaced our original and non-functioning Datron unit with a new-generation King Dome 2200 (been out a couple of months). It is BOTH a satellite dome AND an off-air antenna. Was able to remove the Wingard antenna from the roof. One less thing to potentially rattle or leak.

RE: antifreeze

Agree with Fred. I would install an overflow tank. And if you went with a known OAT based-coolant like Caterpillar ELC, you made a good move.

RE: Engine quits

Diesel fuel tank --> Pre filter (catches macro particles) --> Primary fuel filter (2 micron particles) ---> lift pump ---> Secondary fuel filter (water separator) (10 microns) ---> Injection pump (Engine) No Diesel tank, primary fuel filter/water separator (10-30 micron filter element), lift pump, secondary filter (2 micron filter element on Cat, I believe 5 on Cummins, but don't hold me to the Cummins number), injection pump. And, yes, though rare, if you have a screen or very course pre-filter, it would be between tank and primary fuel filter.

RE: Engine quits

The pre-filter must have been before the lift pump because a positive pressure would be found after the lift pump and no air would get in, and the fuel would get out. Yes, the PRIMARY fuel filter/water separator (first one the fuel sees from tank to engine) should be on the suction side of the lift pump.

RE: Classic or junk. Need advice FAST

Can anyone give me ANY insight on this model? Is the motor good? Is 74K a lot for a light duty diesel motor like that? Is 190HP going to suck? Brian The Chevy 6.5 diesel is one of the poorest choices out there. Underpowered and delivered only about 2 mpg better than the 454 gas. Would recommend that rig with the 454 gas or go to a DP with Caterpillar or Cummins engine.

RE: Casas Grandes?

There are many REAL cliff dwellings and an old railroad if you take the mountain route from Nuevos Casas Grandes to Creel. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico Are you talking about taking 10 down to 16 west? If so, would be interested in details of that drive-- road surface and terrain. We have not driven that route. Thanks.

RE: RV Furnance Short cycling

Is the thermostat in an area where either unit blows directly on it-- if so, relocate it. Some thermostats have a sensitivity adjustment.

RE: Air bags on a class A

To get any kind of sage advice we need to know as much as possible about your rig. Really good advice on a Chevy P chassis means very little if you have an Ford F53 or DP. What chassis? How many miles. What on the suspension is NOT OE (original equipment)? Does it have a front sway bar and if so, have you verified that the bushings are OK?

RE: Problem with King Dome

Yes, if it works fine on shore power, but not generator power, you likely have a problem on the generator. It could be incorrect voltage, frequency, etc. And it very likely will affect other appliances as well. I would not use the generator until you have verified 120 VAC +/-5 VAC and 60HZ. If the problem persists, you could have a brush in the generator that is not making good contact and is producing some noise that the satellite is sensitive to.

RE: Casas Grandes?

Yes, the ruins of Paquime are just outside of Casas Grande which is only a few KM from NCG. There are hotels in NCG or camp at Pistoleros (after verifying with others who have been there more recently).

RE: Casas Grandes?

I assume you are talking about Nuevo Casas Grandes, as Casas Grande itself is a small village. Our last trip through there we spent two days dry camping in the village of Mata Ortiz in our coach before heading to NCG. This was two years ago. Then one night dry camping with great meal at Pistoleros-- a restaurant in NCG that allow coach parking. Nearest point of entry is Columbus, NM.

RE: Did i kill my battery?

You certainly shortened its life. To determine if you killed it, you need to fully charge it and THEN (after full charging), load test it.

RE: HOOK UP SEQUENCE ?

What is proper bag PSI/max PSI per the air bag manufacturer? What brand are they, and are they on the Kia?

RE: fuel milage

For a good discussion of the factors affecting MPG, you might want to read this Caterpillar document. Physics is physics-- that "box" you are pulling down the road doesn't care whether it is gas or diesel-- it takes XX HP for a certain speed/grade. On page 4, you will see the HP demand (at rear wheels) to push/pull an RV at different speeds. https://ohe.cat.com/cda/files/287140/7/LEGT5364.pdf
