RE: Pups at Play

Beautiful photos! Our boxer, Dempsey, LOVES to play Frisbee. He'll fetch it until he can't anymore (usually 15-20 minutes straight) - lol! He loves his Jolly Ball, too, although he's almost destroyed it at this point...

RE: Would you help transport small rescued dogs?

I applaud your efforts, but I think transporting 5 dogs at a time is too many for the average pet owner, who probably already has at least one of their own. It might be more appealing if the number transported at a time is reduced to only 2. Five would be really overwhelming to most people, IMO, even if they're perfectly healthy and clean.

RE: Chalet XL1935 A frame with sofa ?

We have a 2012 Aliner Classic with the rear sofa that slides out to a queen bed and a dinette in the front. To be honest with you, we keep our sofa in the bed configuration b/c there's nowhere to put the bedding to make it back into a sofa everyday, except in the car. We also have a memory foam topper b/c the foam in the cushions isn't firm enough to support the average person (my DH and I are not large people, either...). On longer trips, we may put the bedding in the back of our Pathfinder during the day so that we can enjoy the couch - we'll see.

Congrats! I know you'll be anxiously awaiting the day you get to pick him up.

RE: Small Dog Health Issues

Sorry to hear about your babies' problems. My two small dogs have sensitive tracheas, too. If I even stroke their throats too hard, they start coughing, so I have to be careful! Neither of my dogs have collapsed tracheas, thank goodness.

RE: Beano for your pooch???

I have a boxer, and they have a well-known history of flatulence! Dempsey has room clearing gas if fed a high protein kibble, especially chicken, and/or a kibble with grain in it. If he's fed a fish based kibble, less than 30% protein, then all is well.

RE: Its a sad day

I am envious of your adventurous spirit! If DH and I didn't have family here, I'd take off in a heartbeat.

RE: Natura Pet Food Recall - updated & expanded

The main reason for all the recalls is that health testing standards have become much stricter than they used to be. Seriously, if you feed your dogs raw, you also have to be careful of contracting salmonella. Proper hand washing procedures should keep you safe. Dogs' short digestive tracts cause them to usually not get it - it doesn't have time to "percolate", so to speak. The only foods that have actually tested positive in this recall seem to be the cat and ferret foods, along with the cat treats, NOT the dog food. I'm furious, b/c Maddie is allergic to nearly everything, and California Natural Salmon and Peas is the only kibble I've found that doesn't drive her allergies nuts! I've got about 1/4 of a small bag left, and my supplier is hoping to get another order this Friday - fingers crossed!

RE: Need Help with HARD sided A Frame Trailer Purchase !

We looked at all the A Frames and chose the Aliner, b/c it's lighter, narrower, and will fit in our garage. The deal clincher was when we looked up under the trailers and checked out the floors. The Flagstaff/Rockwoods appears to have sprayed wood floors, while the Aliners have sealed floors. We have the Aliner Classic with a slide out couch that makes into an almost queen sized bed in the back and a dinette (I wouldn't call it double sized) up front. It tows like a dream on a regular hitch (just get a drop hitch to make it level), with no sway control needed. It doesn't come with a toilet, but we have a porta-potty that slides into a cabinet under a dinette seat right inside the door for night time emergencies. Our Aliner also has a sink, small refrigerator, microwave, heater, a/c, cable, 12v receptacle, outside shower (good to rinse sand off at the beach!), and lots of windows. We opted not to get a water heater, since there's no bathroom, but it's an available option for around $400. We use a hot pot to heat water (takes 5 minutes) to do dishes instead. If you join the Aliner forum, there's a buy/sell section you could check out for used ones. They are hard to find used! We bought ours new.

RE: PUP Awning worth the darn?

We have an Aliner, and we just put up our Eazy-Up, which is much easier than fooling with a PUP awning (been there, done that). You can get special weights made for them at Dick's Sporting Goods and other places to help hold the legs down. You can also get bed risers to lift it up 6 inches so that it's level with the door.

RE: A-liner questions

I tow a 2012 Aliner Classic (around 2000 lb.) with a V6 Toyota Rav 4 (3500 lb. tow limit), no problems. I would not tow it with a 4 cylinder. My Aliner has brakes, and I have a brake controller on the car. I tow in 4th gear (take it out of overdrive), and I get 18-19 mpg at 65 mph on the interstate if it's not too hilly (GA and FL).

RE: update on supplements for Izzy

Glad to hear that Izzy is doing so much better! I also give my poodle and boxer a joint supplement that works wonders: Cosequin DS plus MSM. It's a chewable tablet they both love.

RE: Terrier energy

Too cute! Reminds me of the Airedale terrier named Snoopy at the BMX track where my son used to race BMX bicycles when he was younger. The dog and his owner would both start when the gate dropped, and they would race at breakneck speed around the track. The dog was so smart, that when he started to lose, he would cut across the track (which was in a serpentine shape) so that he'd come out ahead of the rider at the end every time. They were so fun to watch! Snoopy barked his fool head off the whole race and obviously had a blast doing it.

RE: Jazz has cancer

Congrats on your new fur member! He's quite handsome! I've always liked dobes, every since there was one at the barn where I boarded my horse when I was MUCH younger. I think the floppy ears make him look younger than he is. He'll be a great companion for you. Sounds like a good guard dog already, too!
