454 and gas milage is an oxymoron. I had three of them, if you are over 9 it's broke. Check again.

The best gas mileage that I have ever achieved was 9.1 mpg averaging 55 to 60 mph.

We've had 2 class A motorhomes with the 454 engine. A 92 Allegro Bay and a 96 Southwind Storm. Both 30'. On the Allegro we got between 8.8 and 12.8 mpg. On the Southwind we got between 8.2 and 11.8. What's odd is we got the best gas mileage on both rigs above 4000'. Got 10mpg on one trip towing a 2001 Grand Cherokee also. Now I tow a 30' 5er with a Dodge diesel and just came back from the coast and got 13.6 on a freeway run. All these mileages were @ 60mph. Jeff

The late model 454 Vortec will get over 10 at times. My 99 gets mid 8's towing at 62-65 MPH. The Sequential fuel injection makes a big difference as does the fact that 95 or 96 up is really a different engine from the older ones.

I am with Ann and Doug. I figure between 7 and 8 mpg. I have a 1995, 32ft Chevy P-30 454 TBI.We have done most of our traveling in PA, NY, CT, MA, so far. That means hills. We don't tow anything, but I drive 65 to 70 mph.
