There is nothing any better than fried rabbit, unless it is fried squirrel. My mother would soak it in salt water after cleaning, then milk, roll it in seasoned flour, then pan fry. Yum, yum!

Yes chippys are edible, but the bigger black/grey squerrils are better, especially the peanut fed ones. Bunnys are yummy. I always find that wild game is better after "hanging" or aging for a week somewhere cool. Chippy is cooked in the Presto pot for 20 minutes, de boned and added to soup, bunnies are barbequed on low heat over a pan full of water.

Didn't know chipmunks were edible. Will have to try that. Firuge I can skin it and make a little chippie-skin cap for a newborn baby.
Thanks for all the tips.

Chipmunks eat clean food so are undoubtedly pretty tasty, but it must be tough to get out all those tiny bones...
And how would you catch even one, let alone enough for a meal?
Cute factor aside, I bear no tender feelings for the little stripey beasts; every year they strip the blueberry bushes completely clean of all the ripe fruit.

I think they are cute as a button, as well as the bunnies. I do not think the kids would be to happy with me skinning them.
I'll keep an eye on my blueberries and if they touch any of the 42 berries I have this year it may be their last.

LOL....42 berries. They must be pretty huge if you are bothering to count them.
Don't let the kids see you skinning the chipmunks. Just get the skins cured and make a hat and tell them it's tiny tigers.

And for heaven's sake, don't tell them what was in that stew last month!!

Squirrel - The Other White Meat

Grilled squirrel is delicious. This noble rodent is a mainstay of high cuisine to backwoods residents. Plus, the tail makes a hairy soup.

Consumer resistance is partly due to the small size of the common gray squirrel. Recently, researchers at the Squirrel Technology Institute (STI) in Piketon, Kentucky, used advanced breeding techniques, genetic engineering, and steroids to produce squirrels over ten feet long (excluding tail) and weighing over 200 lbs.

Look for cuts from this new, improved squirrel at your local grocery store. The larger brain of this giant squirrel fully lives up to its billing as the "Appalachian Filet Mignon".

Remember, beef is boring, chicken is dull. For a special treat, there's nothing to beat - Giant Squirrel.
