I currently have a 5.5 quart Rival 3755 and I hate it. It doesn't get hot enough when it cooks. My mom's old one (it's at least 30 years old) gently simmers while mine just gets hot and never gets to a boil. Yesterday, I put the leftover turkey bones in the crock pot around 1 PM, and left it in there over night in order to make the broth (and it never came to boil) - that's 19 hours in the pot! Even after that I had to take it out and bring it to a boil on the stove top. I have used it in other occasions and the meat comes out mushy and dry. I am going to dump it and start new.
What kind of crock pot/slow cooker do you use and would you recommend it to others? Should I get a single piece unit or the one with a separate ceramic dish (this is the one I have now)? Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks.

I have a Rival 38511...its the oval kind I think its 5 qt. Mine heats very well and will shut of automatically on high at 4 or 6 hrs, and low at 8 or 10 hrs and then go into a warm mode.

I have the "Smart Pot" by Rival. I think it is 6 qt. I love my crock pot. Probably use it once a week. What I like about this one is that you can set the cooking time and temp, and when the time is up it atomatically goes to the "keep warm" mode.

Most of the new crock pots will not boil water. At least the ones I have seen. If you are at home to make broth and stuff put it in your oven with it set at 225. Works perfect. Use teh crock pot to make stews and all that good stuff that doesn't require boiling temps.
Also the removeoble stone ware is nice but they dont get as hot as the old stuff.

I bought a Kitchen Kettle at Walmarts for 19.99. This is a multicooker and I also use it as a crockpot. Use the warm for the low tempature on crockpot and just under 200 or 180 for high on crockpot. I can also steam, boil and fry in it. Before buying this I purchased 3 crockpots and returned all 3 as not one did what my old 30 year one did. I have had the KK for over two year now and works great. It is a 6 quart and comes with a steam basket for vegetables too. The cooking instructions that comes with it are not very good and I just tossed them away.

This just seems odd to me...I have 3 crockpots, 2 old round ones and one newer oval unit. Although I think they are all made by Rival, I have not checked. They will all boil water. As a matter of fact, I usually have to turn them down to low after a few hours because they are boiling too hard. I would suspect a defective unit if it would not come to a boil.

We have a old crock pot that we have just started using. My problem is it seems to get hot on the outside. It has the removable ceramic pot and metal on the outside. I am pretty sure its a rIVAL CROCK POT.

Look in a garage sale or thrift store for a slightly older, MADE IN AMERICA Rival, not one of those pieces of **** made in china.
