Easy fix. Pick a city in the dircetion you want to travel along I-65, then pick another one towards 40 and set that up as a Route. After you get past the bad weather then put in Calif. and away you go.
Have a safe warm trip.

After you set your destination, just go the way you want to and it will automatically recalculate and correct itself.

Just drive the road you want and it will adjust accordingly or use the preferences to fine tune road selection. IF that doesnt work just use waypoints along the way you want to go.

set your end point and then add a "VIA"......along the route you want to take, it will then calculate your route..........easy!

Guy.. with my Magellan and Streets and Trips map, I just ad stops along the route I wish to take. It forces Streets and Trips to calculate my route using the stops. Don't know if your map system will allow that. But as one posted says, you can use waypoints to do the same thing.

You really have a great gps, but sometimes these new fangled contraptions can get some getting used to.
Eric had it right. use a via.
After you have your route where you want to go push on the MENU button. When the new screen pops up press on the ROUTE icon. on the new screen pop up in the center you will see an icon that say add/edit vias. Touch this icon and you will have two choices. If you pick map, you can use the screen to show what road or city you want to go to. touch the screen where you want and then the little check mark in the upper right hand corner.
If you choose the 2nd choice of your ad vias selection a screen pops up and you have all the choices of RECENT FINDS-ADDRESSES--CITIES ETC.ETC. Save your route and its there for you if you want it again.
Play with it a bit at home plugged into the wall outlet and after you do it a few times its really easy.
a tip-- when I use the map to put in a via reduce the map scale so it shows a lager area until you find it, Then enlarge it again where you want the via to be. I have to do this because my fingers are fat and not too precise if its not enlarged. Or as someone else said. just turn onto the hwy you want and it will recalculate. I just did this recently though and the problem with this is , it will sometimes try to return you to its origional direction, after 4 or 5 attempts to get you back to origional direction, it will decide you really dont want to go that way and recauculate the way you want. This can be annoying.

RCtime,
Great tip, I have been looking how to do this also. Now I have two ways to change the route I want to take. Trying to force the 2610 to take a Hwy. that you want to stay on sometimes does not work. At every crossroad the Garmin wants to take you back to the Interstate instead of staying on the scenic route you want to take.
Thanks,

This is not related to your question, but is a good little tip for finding HOME. Set your home as a way point, change that waypoint name to Home. Next time you want to find home, press the FIND key twice and the GPS will ask you if you want to find Home, press yes and it will plan a route to your home.
As for your original question, I agree with the people that are telling you to select via points. The via points must be selected in order that you want to travel. Keep in mind that in most instance the GPS will route you through the city. As example, taking 65 to St. Louis to pickup 44 west will route you through the center of St. Louis, which is not bad as long as it isn't rush hour. You can select via point around the city and the GPS will route you around as planned. I just used my 2610 last week to drive my parents to Mesa, AZ and followed pretty much the route you want.
