We have two new additions to our family I'm proud to announce. We lost our cat in June and adopted two new ones Friday.

We use tidy cat scoopable for multiple cats, immediate odor control and it works fine. There is no box odor. However, between the time they go and the time they bury it, you can catch some nasty whiffs. Is there any brand of food that we can feed them to help reduce the odor? Right now they are on nothing but hard food until they and their bodies adjust to their new home.

You think it smells now, wait until you feed them canned. I think dylansmom has it about right.

As long as you feed a good quality food (not found in grocery stores) and they are healthy there isn't much you can do about kitty box odors other than try different litter brands. We have one cat that stinks up the box really bad and the other two don't. They all eat the same food so we tried changing litter and use the brand you do after experimenting with several different ones...it didn't change the fact that Benson's poops stink worse. I guess some cats just have more odorous BM's than others......

Go to www.oldmotherhubbard.com

They sell Dog and Cat food called "Wellness". It is 100% Human Grade Ingredients...this food is amazing. I wish we found this food sooner, it is sold in smaller pet food or feed stores, I think there is a Locater on the website who sells it in your area. We always bought the best food we could but had not heard of this until the last 3 yrs of our dog's life, we wish we had him on it years sooner.

Just some of the ingredients (the website lists them all): Brown rice, apples, zucchini, sweet pototoes, bluberries, chicken, too many to list here.

We had a 120 lb Akita who loved this food and would eat it right out of the bag when we brought it home. His skin and coat improved, he was healthy as a horse except for arthritis. It does not stink. They also have canned. The sweet potatoes in it are great. His BM's did not stink, they were firm but spongy...good roughage I guess. Now the can Fish one stinks of course, but there is can chicken too. We feed him the dry with 2 TBLSP can mixed in and he was happy with that.

I think this is the best food you could ever feed your Dog or Cat and not much more expensive than the stuff at Petsmart.

I had a friend with 2 picky weenie dogs and gave them this food and they devoured it. One weenie dog was a rescue that was fed candy and junk it's whole life. This dog didn't know what dog food or toys were!!! And this dog ate it right off. The gal tried to get this dog to eat for weeks.

Ok...enough said. Give it a try! I hope it works for the Cats too.

Foghorn, I have NO intention of feeding them cannned. That's asking for stench! Our other cats ate tender vittles and hard. One was malodorous and the other ok. I guess it depends on the cat. We must have picked "smelly cat(s)..." this time.

Some cats are lazy and don't cover it up, too. If I had one of that kind, I might look into the automatic litter box that cleans itself once the cat walks away. You need to use regular (non-scoopable) litter with those, though.

Islandgirl.... You need to compare ingredients on the better brands of cat foods (Nutro, Natural Choice, etc) to the ones you have fed in the past. "Tender Vittles" and other grocery store cat foods like it are chock FULL of unnecessary fillers and chemical preservatives that the better foods just don't have. You might find your cats have a lot less odor if you use a good quality food.
Good luck! A change of diet might help the odor and it will help their overall health.

Not sure what will help as far as food goes, but what I do is everytime I change the liter, I sprinkle a box of baking soda in the liter box. When they dig, they stir up the baking soda and liter, it helps with my 3 cats.
