That's right Walter you are catching on!

Petsmart and Petco are not grocery stores.

Do yourself a favor and buy your cats dry Iams, Science Diet, or Hills food. They cost more, but you'll find your cats actually eating less since the food is so good and not filled with cheap fillers like cheap stuff has. Their poops will be smaller and fewer too.

I prefer Science Diet because the food is color free. Iams has beet juice to color it and when your cat barfs up a hairball, the barf can cause stains. The Science Diet stuff doesn't have any coloring in it.

I should mention that I am not a fan of canned and soft foods. When you start feeding them the canned and soft stuff, you start getting teeth and gum problems. Stick with the dry stuff and you'll never have to deal with stale leftover food in the dish, your cats will have better smelling breaths, and you'll save a lot of money in the log run. My vet is happy that I never let my cat eat human and canned cat food. The only thing you must remember when feeding an all dry food diet is to provide enough water. Not just one watering bowl, but two or three of them in different places.

As I said before, the litter isn't the problem. I would also think twice before adding a whole box of baking soda to the litter. That creates a lot of dust for them to inhale and it will also give them problems with their eyes. Our other cats had a lot of eye irritation from the dust from Arm & Hammer box deodorant, which is glorified perfumed baking soda.

One of our old guys forgot to cover up his deposit once he got to be about 17 years old. Considering what that is in people years, I may forget to cover mine when I get that old too...These girls cover well.

I think I will try the Iams first, mainly because I've seen it everywhere and know I won't get them hooked on food that I might not be able to find everywhere.

Having had as many as five cats in the house at one time ( that can really get exciting) we have used IAMS exclusively. The stools are small and almost odor free. It is expensive, but the animals seem to do quite well on it. For a while we had a couple of the automatic litter boxes which worked quite well as long as I paid attention to what was going on. If we used the clumping cat litter as recommended, there was little or no odor from the waste. Sadly to say, one of the automatic boxes "died" and due to the expense we are using a hand scoop box with the clumping litter. Still, with IAMS and the clumping litter, there is little or no odor.

This won't help with the smell, but you won't notice it.
We've got two cats.
My wife put a box in the basement and one in the garage.
the cats actually prefer the one in the garage, so they will ask to go out there. Just remember to clean them as you normally would.
