(NOTE: THIS TREAD BEGAN IN DECEMBER 2004. IT IS THE ONLINE DIARY OF WHAT WILL BE MANY MONTHS OF RV TRAVEL THROUGH MOST OF MEXICO. THE EARLY PAGES COVER THE ENTIRE WEST COAST DOWN TO OAXACA AND CHIAPAS AND ON TO THE YUCATAN. THERE ARE CONTRIBUTIONS FROM MANY FELLOW TRAVELERS. THE MAGNIFICENT CENTRAL HIGHLANDS BEGAN IN DECEMBER 2005 AND CAN BE FOUND FROM PAGES 34 ON. THE MOST RECENT JOURNEY - BAJA - BEGAN IN MAY 2006 AND WILL BE FOUND ON PAGE 61.)

We are doing a video documentary of RVing through Mexico from the west coast to the central highlands to the Yucatan with most everything else in between. It will take two years or more and will be called "RVing in Mexico". The first edition be available as a DVD by November 2005. We will be profiling the towns of interest along with the RV accomodations we find to be the best at the time (several choices in each location). We are former NBC and Disney people and we want to document what it is like (for us) traveling through Mexico in an RV. There are many "stories" out there often told by people who have never really done this and then there is the truth and much more in between.

If we can help with info let us know. Hasta luego!

Sounds wonderful. Looks like we are almost neighbors - we're from Reno. We're planning a 3 week trip to the La Penita-Guayabitos area in mid-February and would love to hear more about your travels. This is a first for us, so naturally, we're lapping up all the information we can get. Sounds like your DVD won't be available until after our trip, but we'd be interested in seeing it in preparation for the next time down (we hope there will be many).

As we don't have a reservation at an RV park (the ones we contacted wouldn't take a short term reservation) we would be especially interested in your campground recommendations. Any info you can pass on will be much appreciated.

Last year we took a trip through Mexico and found that buying the CD from the Bell's http://www.ontheroadin.com/regions.htm was very helpful. If you have a laptop with you, just load the CD to find info on the next campground down the road. Also make sure you get the Guia Roja map book also. By the way, I used to live in Incline Village, also.

It is a small world, isn't it? We do have the Bell's CD and plan to use it with our lap top. We also have the Church book on camping in Mexico. Both appear to be excellent sources of information. However, any new observations, experiences, etc., are of interest as things can sometimes change quickly.

Do you have any experience with the campground at Chacala? Chacala sounds like a charming location, unfortunately the campground information from the Bells is not real positive. I'm wondering if there have been any improvements since they were last there.

Thanks for your help.

To All - amazing to be hearing from neighbors past and present! We are in Mazatlan until Jan 2 when we head south to Sayulita. We will be checking out La Penita-Guayabitos and Ensenada Chacala on the way. Yes, the Bells CD is a wonderful resource. We are fortunate to have a MotoSat dish on our coach with Directway as our provider. We can access the Bell's site for the same info along with other resources. The internet service has been outstanding - broadband and always on (so long as we are stationary). Direct TV works until you reach Mazatlan and then you lose it. We don't miss it at all. If you want American radio we suggest Sirius. It has worked well so far.
Hasta Luego.

A bit more - on the way down we can personally recommend the following RV campgrounds in the following places:

Kino Bay - La Playa - great ocean views and the beach below.
San Carlos - El Mirador - two hidden beaches walking distance away and very nice campground.
Alamos - Dolisa - nothing fancy but right in the middle of our favorite town so far. Don't miss this colonial gem.
Mazatlan - Mar Rosa - very nice staff and located both on the beach and in town.

There are other very fine choices in all places. Consult Church & Church and the Bell's book for details and contact info.

We are currently in the Paraiso Del Pescador RV park which is in Rincon de Guayabitos. They have wi-fi internet here and other RV parks in the area do as well. Bring your own wi-fi card for your laptop with you. This park is currently full, but expect sites to open up later in January. Four of us RVers are leaving here Jan 9th for a slow trip South ending up in Cancun by mid Feb and back into Texas around the end of March. We have set up a web site we will try to post to each week if you are interested, check it out at http://groups.msn.com/RVtrip2005

How I wish we were with all of you in Mexico. We have over 2 feet of snow out here in Washoe Valley right now.

Please, keep the information coming on your campgrounds and adventures. It seems that, for a while at least, I'm forced to live vicariously through the travels of others.

Happy New Year to all.
