You mentioned a broken spring; I wouldn't expect that on a new coach unless you have been running on some really bad roads. How old is the RV?

to Turtle-Toad -- the coach is new. I'm referring to the springs that are a part of the SteerSafe mechanism and not coach springs.

What does Magna Sin cost now? I'll be driving down to Puerto Esondido next month and am wondering what fuel cost are going to be?

Hey there tahoenow!
We are on our way to the Yucatan and beyond leaving Laredo on Tuesday the January 11th. We will definitely look forward to checking out the DVD when we return to San Diego next June. We left San Diego in June of 2004, headed north through Washington, across the midwest, up to Nova Scotia, down the entire east coast, over to Texas and except for the few times we landed under a tree, we have had great success with our DataStorm/Directwav system and highly recommend it to anyone. We will be taking the Gulf Coast over to Chetumal, Quintana Roo and will forward any pertinent information we gather along the way. Feel free to check out our website for photos and journals www.doylesroadtrip.com

We are currently in La Penita RV Park. We are heading into PV next week for a couple of weeks, then south as far as Zihuatanejo. On our way back in March we will be at El Caracol in Lo de Marcos. I have enjoyed reading where you are and would really like your dvd when it is available. We plan to come this far again next year, then cut over to the Playa del Carmen area. Just thought I would touch base with kindred souls- looks like there are lots of us!

tahoenow,
We will be making our frist trip to Mexico ( staying at the El Dorado Ranch in San Felipe ) in a RV in march and I have few questions for you or anyone else.
1. Do you use a Voltage Booster like the Autoformer CW sells when traveling in Mexico to help with low voltage ?
2. Do you run the RV park water thru your system for showers and washing dishes ? if so do treat the water in any way ?
3. Do you use a GPS system such as Garmin or Delorme with a laptop while traveling in Mexico
Thank you
Bob

To b(bob)foster - We did buy an autoformer by Hughes and I highly recommend it. You could not be asking at a more appropriate time. Yesterday we had a huge power surge followed by an outage and then a slam back. The new Class A next to us had it's surge protector blow and they are still wiping black debris from the inside of the coach. We lost power but no damage. You can assume that there will be wide power fluctuations especially as you move further south with the greater use of air conditioning. The autoformer is $400 well spent to protect your investment in both your coach and your enjoyment in Mexico. As to water, we make a policy of using only the water in our tank and refilling it as needed. We put a little chlorine concentrate in the hose before filling the tank and that makes us quite safe for showering and even tooth brushing. We have a DeLorme gps receiver and software but could not find Mexico maps for it. Frankly, I don't feel the need for it. Just get the Guia Roji map book and you will be all set. At the end of the day, all of this is easier than you think it will be. It is a pure joy with a few topes along the way and you should just do it. That will be the over-riding message of our program. You will have more fun and meet more interesting people than you ever could staying at home. And by all means, bring your dog or cat if you have one. Fully 2/3 of the people in the camps have them and the pets love it. Their home is the coach. All the beaches are pet-friendly and most of the restaurants with patios have no objections. Hasta luego y bien viaje (we don't speak spanish well at all and are getting by just fine with a smile and an effort)

Re: Mandofrog - Rincon de Guayabitos is a great little beach town. It's very clean, atmospheric and has a beach that is excellent for swimming unlike most other beaches north of Puerto Vallarta. For that reason it is very popular with Mexican families and a few Canadians/Americans here and there. La Penita is a bit neglected these days. It's clear the action is further north in Guayabitos, Lo de Marcos and Sayulita. I would characterize the choices as follows:
La Penita - a bit depressing due to the decay; Guayabitos for real Mexican family flavor, low cost dining and hotels and a great swimming beach; Lo de Marcos for a spectacular beach almost unused except by a few locals and those in the several campgrounds. The beach is not a surfing beach and a so-so swimming beach due to a fairly big shore break; Sayulita - a magical little village with dusty streets and the feel of Bali. It's a surfing and art town with a zen consciousness to it. Think Hanalei and Santa Cruz. The bay is beautiful and the restaurants are excellent. Until recently, the only rv park there has been the Sayulita Trailer Park owned and run by the charismatic Theiss from Germany. There is just now a new park about 1/2 kilometer to the south with no name we could see. It is fine for smaller rigs (24' and underl It sits in front of the most atmospheric part of this beautiful bay and is just a short stroll to numerous restaurants and markets. It was nearly empty today and very desirous of customers. They have 15 amp power and water but no dump out. You'll have to make outside arrangements for that. We understand a truck can be called for haul aways but we need to verify that.

Thanks tahoenow. That's the kind of info I'm looking for. Do you think the road between the towns is safe on a Vespa after dark? It's a 200cc so has plenty speed and power. I'm not talking late at night. Just so that if we went to another town in the area for dinner, we wouldn't have to hurry home before dark. Thanks for all your valuable information.
By the way - we've had 7-8 feet of snow in Washoe Valley. I'm sooooo ready for Mexico!
