We are going to the Dodge Brothers meet in Tacoma in July and need a good place to camp for 4 days. Is there a good place in the Tacoma area with basic amenities and decent security?

the closest you are going to find is the Majestic Mobile Manor in Puyallup. This is the one the I-5 Camper signs direct you to. It is a mobile home park with rv spaces in the rear. Address is 7022 River Road E., Puyallup, WA 98371, telephone (253) 845-3144, fax (253) 841-2248.

The problem with Tacoma RV parks is that they do not include electricity with the spaces. Even for a short stay, you would have to contract separate with the Tacoma Utilities.....

have you checked out the new RV.net Blogs yet?

I will get you the website, but the Puyallup fairgrounds offer camping with full hook-ups for about $10 or $15 in advance...You have to see if there is anything else going on there and it's only a big parking lot,but it's really not a bad place.. they have had FMCA there a couple of times and a couple of other major rallies also...

Gig Harbor RV park is a few miles over the Tacoma Narrows bridge(Highway 16). Has full hookups and Gig Harbor is a scenic little town on the water.

BEWARE: Traffic that way can be a problem during rush hour traffic but the park is a nice one. Trees, terraced sites, all ameneties. PArk is NOT on the water.

Tacoma itself has zippo..............

I believe Lacey, towards Olympia, also has a newer RV park. Kent has a KOA.

The Kent KOA is often full, so I wouldn't count on staying there. The best options are probably south of Olympia at one of the private campgrounds, but you're going to have some difficulty finding reservations for July. Good luck. JMHO

Here's another vote for Gig Harbor...if you can put up with the coming and going traffic. Neat little town w/good restaurants and shops. Worth the traffic IMHO.

I drive that bridge all the time and even with all the cool places in the Harbor,I wouldn't advise 'cuz you never know what it's gonna be like...If we're driving our buses to Olympia even they want us to route around through Shelton..We really have to watch our team schedules to make sure we leave in time to make a game and figger in the bridge too....
