Energy Suspension Systems sells 2.5 inch spacers, they work great for stabilizing the sway of the camper. I also use airbags. My camper is almost 4000 pounds.

Well my TC is 4K and the set up works great I only run 5lb in the air bags unless I put the trailer on I then go to 35lb.

3500, you are way over thinking the question. See my post above, they came stock on Rams until DC decided for me that I don't want or need them.

Yea, you are correct in me overanalyzing things- the result of too much (or too little) therapy as a child (LOL)...

But help me out... is the original question about adding the extras to the top OR bottom of the leaf pack? SeePHOTO this--> for what the 2G's had from the factory. They came with "helpers" on top, but only 1 "overload" on the bottom with stacked blocks.

The 3G's now have a leaf pack with one overload below the spring pack but no "helper" on the 2500's.... the 3500 have the same set- up with the addition of "helper" above that engage when loaded. http://www.klenger.net/dodge/lowering-rear-end/slide02.htmlshows a 3500 spring pack: The helpers above (3500 only) with 1 overload and shorter spacers.

Yea, I do overanalyze, but I am trying to ascertain the posters desires (height or load capacity?).... it load capacity is the concern, then bags would be the easier instal choice.

Uncomplicatedly yours, (LOL)

I am after more load capacity, with less drop down on the rear end.I consider the very top spring which hits its own stops the overload spring.I just thought this might be more stable then air bags.

Okay Frank. I assumed I understood the original question until you chimmed in with helper springs vs blocks/spacers? I checked your first picture, but wasn't sure what I was looking at. And your second link wouldn't open for me.

So I assumed there was the main spring pack, and above that an overload spring that didn't come into play until the bed settled. What are we talking about now? What was it that Dodge used to do but now doesn't? What's the difference between overload springs and helper springs?

My understanding (... and please correct me if I am wrong)... a helper spring is above the leaf pack and engages when sufficient weight is applied to the bed in order to lower the truck to contact the ends of the helper leafs. The new 3G Dodge's have this set- up on the 3500's. It rides just like a 2500 (asuming a SRW) until enough weight is loaded.

Overloads springs are the long, thick pieces under the spring pack that, when loaded sufficienly will contact the bottom of the spring pack.

Sorry about the link not working. Try this-->LINK then go to 3rd Gen Reference/ Lowering a 3rd gen truck and go through Ken's slide show.

It shows a good refernce to this topic.

It may be a matter of terminology semantics. I was confused as to which was what and found more information in this thread:--> SPRING PACK... Posts number 4 & 10 seemed to sum it up.

For the original poster of this thread, I think that there are better methods for gaining more weight capacity than adding helpers (especially if it is a 2500.)

wesjr55...the overload springs are either the factory ones (3500's or older 2500's with Camper Special option) that have their own stops OR an add-on like Super Springs. The idea is that one has the softer ride of a day-to-day main spring pak (the new trucks have a slab spring on the bottom of the main spring pak because the newer trucks have longer springs for a nicer ride but eventually tighten up on the slab...which then gets rougher riding). When the load goes on, the overloads come in and pick it up to help the sagometer.

More overloads work if needed. So do the spacer products between the overload stop and overload springs (so you get on the overloads sooner). The drawbacks for more overload springs is a little stiffer ride. The drawback to spacers is the "slapping" of the overload when empty or near empty because the space has been reduced. I use a removeable spacer now that I fabricated. Airbags between frame and axle are a simple fix with adjustment capability but drawbacks are leaks sometimes and when the bag is hard the suspension is basically cancelled. OK for highway but rough riding.

I want to create an ADJUSTABLE stop for the overloads. Lots of space when empty and decreaseable spacing when loading. I intend to use an airbag(s) between the frame and overloads as my adjuster. That way I still have suspension even with big loads. Hope this is clear. George

That's a great idea! I have held off on the taller Energy Suspension taller BS's cause I am not sure what length to get. This could solve that issue!

Helwig sells what they call an assist spring. Installs over the top of your factory contact overload.

Been wondering about where to get extra leafs for my helper pack that engages when the bed drops myself, any advice?

Any spring shop should be able to add extra springs to your overload pack. You'll probably have to get longer u-bolts also.
