We are going dry camping end of May and the place has nothing except trees and pit toilets. About 10 miles from it is a reststop with a dump. Is that water drinkable? Coud we fill up the water tanks there?

They will have a dump station and a place to fill up with water. Just not at each individual site.

I fill my tanks before leaving home and I also take two (full) 5 gallon water containers with me. I just don't trust the water at the state parks. We take bottled water for drinking and store all our drinks, except milk, in a large cooler full of ice. This leaves more room in the fridge. Even though we fill our tanks at home, we only use it for showers. We use disposable plates and cups so we don't need much water for dishes.....

We usually travel with the fresh water tank 1/3rd full. This gives us water to flush with if we have to stop enroute. In my opinion the only "dumb question" is the one not asked. We use check off lists for departure and arrival. These lists cover inside and outside the 5er and the truck. After we forgot things in the house when departing we added a house departure list. Now all we have to do is remember to use the lists. I'll share our lists with you if you send me your e-mail address to cwsoules@mindspring.com.
