Before you receive conformation on what to do, tell your brother in law not to start the engine. I would keep the gas isolated in the tank, after which for peace of mind I would do as recommended by Big Katuna and BobMary8101.

One thing, at least your brother in law had the courtesy and yayos to call you right away! Now if he will take ownership of his mistake and make it right(accept responsibility of the cost for repairs if needed).

I will definitely watch this thread. Good luck...

5 gallons to 95 gallons should not hurt it,we had a driver that would add about 5 gallons to each 55 gallon tank for more power but it did do engine damage after a lot of miles around 150,000 but he did it on every trip not a one time mistake thing.

Like others have said, I would seek professional advice. If they said OK, I would feel much better adding some lubricity enhancer likes Howes or one of the many other good products on the market. Good luck.

I would definitely contact CUMMINS before starting the engine.

That said, if you really agree with some here, that a modern, computer controlled, precisely built and metered diesel engine, is OK to run with 5% gasoline, go ahead. I wouldn't without discussing it with CUMMINS. Period....

Now THAT also said, my absolute first thought was the same as CaBoy's. I'd put several gallons of Howes or a similar type of lubricity enhancer in the fuel tank and put a tube in the tank and blow air in there to make "lots of bubbles" to stir things up. Now way I'm risking the possible wear issues of fuel with no lubricant.

Again though, call CUMMINS and ask.

If you would though, "please" tell us the outcome and recommended resolution.

note: I would let the tank set overnight following the "stirring process."

My neighbor is a diesel mechanic - I accidentally put about seven gallons of gasoline into my 35 gallon diesel tank on my Dodge. He advised to add a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner and then drive the vehicle. When I got down to three quarters of a tank to top it off. I did this twice and never noticed any difference in the way the vehicle has run. At the time I made my mistake, the engine had about 5000 miles. It now has over 50000 miles and it runs like a top - consistently averaging over 10 mpg towing a 15,000 lb. fifth wheel. Don't sweat that small amount of gasoline!

Ditto...don't ask me how I know

5 gallons of gas into 95 of diesel...I wouldn't give it a second thought.
