For anyone interested (US owners) www.harborfreight.com has a rack I purchased and modified to carry a recumbent trike. It cost $60. It doesn't have a side rail, but they have do have one for a little more - I can't remeber the price on it. Rated to hold 350 lbs.

Drawing some hopefully correct inferences, I think the maybe-unclear issue in this is a carrier that works with the RT Chevy 170, 190, & 210's unique rear spare tire carrier. The upright that the spare mounts on is a distance behind the rear bumper, so it interferes with some carriers. Apparently this carrier clears that.

The one caution I'd mention is that the further back the platform is, the greater the effect of the weight, so best limit it to light, bulky stuff. Otherwise you might exceed the tongue weight of the hitch, overload the rear axle & tires, or even change the great driveability of the Chevy chassis.

(On edit, this'd likely have to be removed to access the spare or fold it down to allow opening the left rear door. Not a great thing to have to do on the roadside, but how likely is it you'll need to get the spare? I do have doubts about blocking the right rear door emergency exit with cargo, but that's an individual decision.)

Then again, maybe I'm misunderstanding the OP....

I've been away for a couple of days.
Our licence plate is located quite high up and the carrier does not cause any problem
Of course the carrier is good for most vehicles but it is harder to find a carrier that will work for the RT because the spare tire is mounted on the back. This carrier clears the wheel but only if you take the spare wheel cover off. Works for us.

IMO...as soon as a person blocks visibility of their license plate with gear, the blocking mechanism becomes illegal...as license plates must be visible and readable at all times.

When I added a hitch-haul to my RT200, I moved the license plate to the back of the hitch-haul, and added reflectors to the back and sides.

The carrier being displayed already has reflectors, but my hitch-haul did not.

The license plate worries are definitey valid, just as with any rear obstruction of the plate. Be aware, if you move it, that it also will need to be illuminated in many, if not all, parts of the country.

The licence plate did not have to be moved on our 2003 Chevy model to accommodate the carrier. So maybe it is not such a good buy for other class B's just the RT.
