A good aftermarket hitch can be purchased for $150 and any shop should be able to install one in under an hour. So don't let the factory hitch problems steer you away from the vehicle if you like it. Just budget in another $200-$300 to have a good hitch installed.

There are no other hitches for the 2007+ Suburbans and Yukon XLs.

Larry, maybe you should know the whole story be you pop off with comments like that. I had replied to a different thread Jennifer posted, I offered some comments regarding vehicles she was considering, and gave her a link to a couple of TV's listed on Autotrader that were near her. From that point she PM'd me asking more specific questions to which to conversation gravitated to options between 2500 series Suburban's and Excursions.
As Jennifer stated, my only comment regarding the 'Burb hitch was that SOME people had experienced hitch failures and instructed her read previous posts on the subject to educate herself. At no point did I make blind accusations or sweeping generalizations that the hitch is junk or anything of that nature. In fact, my comments were very positive toward the 'Burb she mentioned and I was simply making he aware of one POSSIBLE problem to which she should be aware.
Oh, by the way, I CAN speak from experience. The OEM hitch on my 2004 2500HD was one of the "updated" versions which included a gusset plate in the "U" bracket. When using the OEM hitch to tow my 7,000# TT I used to get significant see-saw, bucking action when going over bridges and bumps. After replacing the OEM with a Curt Magnum V "traditional" cross tube style receiver......UNDER THE EXACT SAME CONDITIONS..... I experienced almost no bucking. So, by my seat-o-the-pants-ometer, that tells me there is less flexing occurring with the Curt receiver. How is that for "not being able to support my opinion?
If you had happened to see her first post, Jennifer stated her family is looking to buy a TT and TV to strike out on a 2+ month trek across the US. My only motivation for stating anything "negative" about a vehicle was help she and her husband become aware of POTENTIAL failure points while they are traveling. I know personally I'd be disappointed to be on a trip and be stuck several days in an unfamiliar location due to a TV failure. I was merely trying to educate them so they know what to look for and take as many preventative measures as possible to avoid problems on the road.

That's what I was not sure about. That is why I made this statement to Jennifer in my PM:
Like2Build wrote: One other thing about the Suburbans. If it is the old body style, you might want to replace the hitch receiver before you take off across the country. Some of these receivers have been known to break causing nasty accidents. Do a search on this site for "GM receiver" and you'll see what I mean.
Must chime in again...this has been a 'Suburban' content thread to date.
An Excursion is a fine vehicle and both will do the job if you research
them both.
Meaning that the Excursion also has it's quirks and issues. Not the exact
same ones as a 8.6K GVWR Sub.
Do search here and you'll see where their weaknesses are and the HOW2s
fix/mitigate them.
Did look at them when Excursions first came out. Not for me then and
again when they updated them. Better, but again, not for me and my
Sub was paid off by then, so 'also' didn't want to restart finding
these quirks and fixing them...
