Yesterday my wife and I went to a local dealer that has several stores around the country. We were looking for a specific model of 5th wheel. The dealer had 2 on the lot, one of which we would have purchased. I had a stack of paper work + price list of options for this model. Asked the salesman a few questions for clarification. I then told him I needed a price. He left and came back in a few minutes and said the manager was too busy to talk so just tell me 10% off MSRP. LOST CUSTOMER.

Maybe he was going to give you full book for your trade in??? Instead of giving you 40% discount on new rig and 50% of book for your trade?? It all still boils down to what you have to write the check for!!!! Unless it has changed you must make offer that is when the fun begins!!! rvtommy

10% in this economy is a joke. Winnebago is putting commercials on our radio stations with ads for up to 40% off. I looked at a Jayco at one of our local dealers about two weeks ago and they were in the 40% off area too.

Service is now the name of the game. If the manager is too "busy" to give you a price, there will be another one nearby who will be happy to take the time, and will get the sale. This is the reason that only SOME of the RV dealers are going out of business, and not all. This guy will probably learn, but only after it's too late.

Make the first offer instead of letting them come back with a stupid price. Go a little lower than you'll actually be willing to pay.
You can also save time and use email. Let dealers know you're shopping around and are ready to buy.
