I have a Flagstaff 831BHSS. Anyone know the weight limit for the bunk, or a mod to beef it up.

What ever you do, dont guess at it. There's a lot of differences. Jaycos bunks are all rated at 300 lbs while Starcrafts bunks are all rated at 150 lbs or useless to adults.
It makes a big deal if you need the bunk for a growing boy. With the way kids go, 150 lbs could make the bunk live a short life for a 16 year old. Hek, I was skinnier than a rail when I was 16 but was definitely over 150 lbs. My body fat to muscle was astonishing I was told by my Physical Education teacher! The same could be said today, but in the opposite view point.
I'd get a written rating directly from Forest River, that way you have some facts instead of some representive just guessing at it, like they commonly like to.
Good luck and have a good one.

Not all bunk weight limits are created equal. The statement above about Jayco is not correct. My Jayco has bunk limits of only 200#'s. There is a decal on the wall next to our bunks with the limit very clearly stated.
Best bet is to call the manufacturer. Not sure what if anything you could do to boost the weight limits of the bunks without making some major modifications. Mine are triples stacked on top of each other and partially behind the bathroom wall. Just getting there to do any supports etc would be pretty difficult.

Even with only kids under 120lb using it, the upper bunk in our Rockwood 8318SS started to fail. The wood support screwed to the slideout wall (that the pipe the bunk swings on attaches to) started to pull out of the wall at the front. I had to screw it more securely to the wall (the original screw was attached to only the thin panelling!) using anchors and also screwing into a reinforced part of the wall.

Let me rephrase it as all recent Jaycos. Jayco hasn't made a kiwi model in some time as they aren't even in the archives that go back to 2003.
Have a good one.

FYI, the Kiwi and the Feather are the same model. There was a copyright issue with the Kiwi Shoe Polish folks so they just changed the name around 2004 - 2005 model years.
Wish mine had higher weight limits. My teenage son continues to grow, imagine that, and is around 150 or so now. Needless to say we may have to move him out of the middle bunk and onto sofa. Middle bunk is the longest and more headroom so that is why he is there. Mine are three in a row top to bottom so little more crowded than say a quad model with two on each side.

Have Flagstaff 831QBSS. I beefed up the upper bunks by:
Pieces of 1 X 2 (stained to match woodwork in trailer) fastened to the wall around the perimeter under the bunk and fastened (glue and screws) to the inside of existing 1 X 4 accross the opening (turns that 1 X 4 into 2 X 4). Use clamps while glue sets up and only install a screw in the middle and one on each end.
Added 1/4" sheet of plywood on top. The mattress hides everything on top and matching stain makes the 1 X 2's look like they are supposed to be there.
Number one son (6'3", 260 lbs) sleeps in upper bunk at deer camp. Sons call that mod "FKA" (fat kid approved). At 210 lbs, I have slept up there, myself.
