In the information for the Northstar Laredo, the water heater is $180, and the heater with 110v is $415, so the difference looks like $235.

If you count the nights we have electrical hook ups then divide them by the amount of propane we would save it would take 25 to 50 years to payback the $250.
Others may have electrical hook ups more often than we however.

Me too, that is why I would just buy more beer.

I suspect that some of the difference here is that the $180 heater is a standing pilot model and the $415 unit is a DSI. A DSI without electric heat is in the $300 range.

I don't think it would be worth it, UNLESS you winter camp. I wish I had it for that reason. I like to stay at Whistler BC to ski through the winter, I have to leave my water heater running all the time because I don't want to freeze the tank. Through out the rest of the year, I start the water heater in the morning, then shut it off after it is up to temp, this will stay hot most of the day and saves propane.
