They gave him what he wanted to make money. When they had a chance to make more money they gave the first customer to give them money the heve ho. Pure greed.

Most campgrounds I have visited will not guarantee a specific site. A few do, and the site number is assigned at the time of reservation. In that case, I expect to pull into my assigned site without problems. Often, a guaranteed site means a no refund policy, but that is just part of the program. Sadly, there are a few campgrounds that I would love to return to, however, they will not guarantee a site, and only a few of the sites are wonderful enough to justify the trip. Outdoor Resorts in Newport Oregon has 5 or 6 sites that overlook the lighhouse, have a clear view of the ocean, and are truly spectacular. I once had the pleasure of stay at the corner spot. I have made numerous attempts to secure the same location without success. The rest of the park is spacious, lovely, but all other spots lack the spectacular view. Think I got of subject. Sorry.
I do know there is ONE "1" oceanfront CG at Myrtle Beach that guarantees your site, and assigns they site to you at reservation time. You pay in advance. You do not even have to stop at the office. You just drive to your site. Your gate pass is included in the confirmation packet. That Campground fills up long before any of the other MB CGs. Why? Because you know what you have before you leave home.
The most popular CG on the BRP also assigns specific site. You have to call way in advance to get a site, and believe it or not. They don't even take a deposite to save your site. You just have top promis to call if you can't come. These 2 CG are the most successfull because of their custome service, and honesty. Pure and simple.

Wait a minute.....you mean that customer service doesn't just mean taking the easy road by pleasing whoever is on the phone or standing in front of you at the moment while ignoring everyone else and breaking previous promises? Imagine that! I wonder how many campground operators could learn something from that simple concept.
No wonder I have my favorite parks and campgrounds!

To many campgrounds are using the policy of not honoring a reservation made for a specific site. I do research on picking a site from a campground that I haven't been to. I return to the same campgrounds that I have a favorite site. I expect that if I reserve that site it needs to be honored when I arrive. If the site isn't honored expect an unhappy camper who will never return. Not all sites in a campground offers what a camper is looking for or are equal. If I reserve weeks or months in advance and the site is open it shouldn't be given to someone later, which most likely is a short notice arrival.

Why would we want to reserve a specific site number? I'll tell ya:
Because if we know the campground, we know why we want a particular site.
I have a specific site reserved this weekend for Father's Day, by number, fully paid for and ticket in my hot little hands. Not too many folks even LIKE this site, so we can usually get it for ourselves.
It's special because whoever made the layout in this county campground put the fire ring and picnic table in *backwards* on right side of the parking slab. It's just this one site. All the rest of the sites have the amenities to the left of the parking slab like normal. So instead of backing in a camper, it means driving in our motorhome front first so the amenities are outside the door.
Why so special?
Because the view out the front windshield is SPECTACULAR !!! LOL
We wake up to golden sunrises over the blue waters of the bay of Green Bay and Lake Michigan, sparkling into our rig each morning. On a clear day you can see all the way across to Door County. The gulls dipping and swaying in the winds, the tall cattails moving in the breeze, with nothing between us and the water. All streaming in our huge front windshield like a picture painting.
Now if I were in a fiver with those big windows in the back living area, I would not like that site at all. If I were reserved and ended up on a backwards site, it would upset me too. I would either be backed in for the view, but have to walk around the fiver to get to the campfire and table... or drive nose in, unhook the tow vehicle and jimmy it out alongside the camper to use the site as intended, and enjoy the view of the cars on the campground road and other campers. Hmmmmm
this thread makes it obvious why any campground would be smart to establish a policy that "no specific site number will be reserved, we will only guarantee a site in the same category".

Most all of the campgrounds we have ever been to have this basic policy. Even Fort Wilderness at Disney World does not gaurantee site numbers, all you can do is "request" a section (otherwise known as a "loop") of the campground, and even that has no gaurantee.
We do almost all of our campground reservations for the year in January due to work schedules. Virtually every campground's reservation section of its website has warnings about not gauranteeing specific sites, and usually even when we call and talk to a live person they will tell us that there is the possibility that we won't be able to get our specific site.

All the COE CGS in SC, GA, VA, FL and Florida SPs we've been to -- are able to do this. You can also do this @ Fort DeSoto -- a County Park in FL. Never had a problem.
CGs can deliver this easily if they want to. Some don't probably because they lack enough desirable sites or they don't understand how turning over this process to a reservation system can save them money. COE CGs leave a few out of the system -- for walkups only.
There are lots of ways to benefit using site-specific reservations. If a site needs mtce the CG takes it out of the reservation pool. Or keep a few out for emergency purposes. It's a planner tool that can work for everyone.

from the discussion in this thread, I don't think it is that easy to do without ruffling some feathers.
