this thread makes it obvious why any campground would be smart to establish a policy that "no specific site number will be reserved, we will only guarantee a site in the same category".

I don't see where it is "smart" for a campground to not honor specific sites per reservation. It is always being posted how campgrounds (mostly those that are not destination campgrounds for major attractions) are hurting for business. State parks reservation system allows for specific site guarantee. When I want a river site or ocean site and I am willing to pay more for that type of site I should be able to reserve it. Sounds like good business and customer satisfaction to me.

CGs can deliver this easily if they want to. Some don't probably because they lack enough desirable sites or they don't understand how turning over this process to a reservation system can save them money. COE CGs leave a few out of the system -- for walkups only.

from the discussion in this thread, I don't think it is that easy to do without ruffling some feathers.

If you are referring to the concerns some have with the reservation system... I can see your point. There will always be those who complain that the system is unfair. Our experience is -- if you plan ahead it works.

Can't help the folks who dwell on folks misusing the system. It's like that book -- Who moved my cheese. The cheese has been moved -- there are those who figure it out quickly and move on and those who sit and complain and complain that big brother moved the cheese.

What is so hard about telling you your site. I make a reservation for site 14. I pay for it. Next guy calls, and wants site 14. Clerk looks on schedule. Site 14 is taken sir. Or I call. I would like site 25. Clerk says. Site 25 is taken sir. Do you have a second choice? What is so hard about that? Pretty simple to me. Any CG should know what sites they have available at any time. If not. How do they know they will have one for you?

In two weeks, we are going to the beach. Couldn't get into the CG that rents specific sites. It fills too fast. Had to settle for one that puts you in "that area". Can tell you now. If the site is not what we ask for, if it does not face east. Will be our last trip there. It's my vacation, It's my money. If they can't accomadate us. Someone will. In truth they knew which site we would have before they took the deposite. Because the first morning we have to move. because the beach site was taken that night. So you see. they know. Just won't do it. As for the same catagory. The site behind the one I want is in the same catagory. But is unacceptable. Because it faces the wrong way.

There is only one CG that I frequent that does NOT offer site specific reservations. In fact, it doesn't even offer reservations at all. But it's worth it. It's a short trip for us and a beautiful place.

EVERY other CG that I go to GUARANTEES me a specific site #, and that's why I go there. If I got there and discovered that they had let my spot go to someone else, they would certainly see a VERY unpleasant side of me. The absolute LEAST they should do is give me a call and ask me first. I might very well say, "fine." But I might say, "Too bad. They should've been faster than me on the reservations. Better luck next time."

And I don't particularly care for a CG hiding their reservation policy in the disclaimer either. That's a shady way to do business. If they like their policies enough to use them, then by God they should be proud enough of them to clearly state them to you. You shouldn't have to search for the caveats like it's an Easter Egg hunt. That's childish and silly.

If I knowingly made a reservation at a CG where they only guaranteed me a spot, not a specific site then I get what I get, and I know that going in. But, if I felt that I had been intentionally misled, I would never return to that particular CG. Not a chance.

Was in The NP campcround near Bryuson City, NC (smokies) and self registered for a site that we had been to before. The adjoining site was occupied and had the generator running. I needed (would have liked) to have a drill batt charged. I had the charger. I knockd on the door and finally a lady came-I asked about the batt-She said "NO-WHY DONT YOU MOVE." Move I did after posting a warning on the bulletin boars by the self reg maching.

I agree with terryallan. If I reserve a specific site in advance, and pay a deposit for it in advance, I want my site. Once it's reserved, it's taken. No need to move me to accomodate someone who comes in after my reservation. That's the reason for the reservation.
I would not accept any less. Now, if I called and they told me up front, we don't reserve specific sites, then I would either accept what I got when I arrived, or I would say no thanks and go else where. Not very complicated to me. I make some reservations a year in advance. Poor planning on anothers part should not become my problem when I already reserved and paid in advance.

that would be true unless you tried to extend your reservation to add on some days and somebody else has reserved that site. Then you should have to move.

As I undersood it. She didn't even listen to the question, and figured it was just another person that wanted quiet, Not someone that wanted to borrow some power. And being the rude person that she is. Went off on him. And then he didn't want to stay beside such a rude person.
