Our cat has gone from about 11 lbs to about 6 lbs & she is 20 1/2 yrs old & still incredible loveable. She sleeps a lot now tho & never really liked camping, so most of her life she stayed home.

Yep, hyperthyroidism has struck at out house. My 15 yr old was diagnosed last year after a rush to the emergency vet on a Sunday. The methamazole has its own set of side effects. So knowing your cat will prove to helpful when it comes to dosing.

We have her daughter who is just starting to exhibit some of the same signs that blood work might be necessary in the near future to check her thyroid and her insulin levels.

Its worth the few extra dollars to have a geriatric animal blood tested. Its amazing how cats can hide a problem until it hits critical levels.

I agree with the senior checks! My Moon just had her first, and her kidney numbers are slightly off. I've changed her diet and taken away her treats. Next year I'll have another check done. Glad to have caught it early..

I saw a drastic weight loss in my 18 yo cal, Loki a year ago. Found out he had cronic Kidney Failure (CKF). It is best to get a full lab done, if the weight loss continues. CKF is treatable for a while, in fact he's eating well again and doing good.
Although it hasn't been proved, I think a lot of cats ate that bad food with the malinine from China a year or so ago and didn't show acute symthoms, but are now coming down with kidney problems.
Keep an eye on him and his eating habits.

We have that issue right now with a 7yr. old. Diamond is now down to 7lbs. she has lost 2lbs. in a year. Our vet did a blood panel & found nothing. She is healthy & does eat good.
