I have been looking for a small generator for my racecar trailer. Noise was not really an issue at the track but I didn't want a really loud one. I need to run a two 500w lights, a fan, and a few small flouresent lights. I have been looking at the Champion for about a week and was about to pull the plug until I read about the HW. Long story short I just got back from HD with the HW 2000 for $324 out the door. Two concerns that I had were enough power and run time on a tank. I'm going to test it this weekend and will report back. I would really like to get about 6-7hrs out of a tank?

I thought for the money what the hell. If I don't like it I can sell/return it and buy the Champion.

Just picked up the Honeywell 2000i at Home Depot in Ankeny, Iowa. There was only one in the store and it was located sitting on a shelf by all the generators. No price sticker on the box and no sign to show the price. I took it up to the cash register and asked for a price check. $299 was the reply. Out came the Visa and out the door I went with it. (I checked my other Home Depot in Urbandale last night and none there)

Tonight I am going to run it side by side with my Champion. Will post my "comments" tomorrow in a new thread.

I have a Champion too but said, this deal is to good to pass up just for the kicks. But guess us Texas hicks got left with the what the little bird left on my auto while in HD. Was told, none in Texas. Not even a Champion. Hope somesome proves that to be in error.

here is a video of the HW powering (1) roof top 11.5k BTU Dou Therm A/C, the A/C was already running when i made the recording, so there is NO 'idle to Ramp up' change, just the sound of the genny with heavy load running the A/C.

recorded at 21ft

an 11k A/C pulls 12-13 amps running, so that is appox 80% of the max load of 16.7 amps, plus my wfco converter was on, but it was at low output of 16 amps, not much 120v load maybe 2amps

but 13+2 is 15 so thats nearing the max load

i think i will be mainly using the Champion or Onan for my A/C needs

this video is available in full screen mode, just push the full screen button to see it full screen good quality, recorded at 640*480

I stopped by the local HD and could not find any. I am still leaning towards trying one of the Magna 2700's with the remote start. Those are pretty cool, but seem to be fairly new and not many reports on them yet. Hmmm...

Mr. Wizard,

I'm not sure about the kipors but the Honda's have a vacuum operated fuel pump. That's why they have a vacuum vent in the fuel cap and why you can feed fuel from the long run tanks into the honda.

The fuel pumps are made by mikuni and one posting identified the pump model. Short of a fuel pump, you'll need to gravity feed it into the Honeywell.

I've looked at this myself. I have a yamaha and it doesn't have a pump. Prof95 has posted info regarding an external fuel pump and low pressure to feed a champion. I like his idea, but it seems to be a lot of work and the vacuum operated pump seems like a winner.

Someone went so far as to put a boat fuel connector on their Honda so that they could "quick" connect from the external tank to the honda and disconnect and reuse the internal tank.

The one thing you need to find out is if there is a fuel pump or not on the honeywell.

Congrats on your new toy! I have to admit, I'm suffering from a bit of Generator Envy!

thanks for the extra info, I wasn't aware of the vacuum operated fuel pump on the honda ue models, I was just thinking of normal vacuum pressure created as fuel runs out of the tank.

I was asked the question and thought i would post it for all to see. because i don't have the answer.
