I have a 2001 Fleetwood Flair. 8.1 liter motor.

Does anyone know how many CFM the stock air filter is rated for ??

Thinking of installing a DIY Cold Air Intake and want to make sure to get the proper size air filter.

Thanks

What does the DIY use for a filtering media?? If it's an oil wetted design, save your money and your engine and leave the stock unit on. I've never seen a stock engine that needed more than a stock OEM filter.

Regardless of your personal opinion, can you answer the question ???

I am dealing with a water ingestion problem during the winter. Keeping the stock set-up in place is not helping the problem. I am simply looking at options and seeking accurate information rather than personal opinions.

Thanks for the reply.

You might try talking to truck performance shops, like Four Wheel Parts. They do a lot of air intake work on vehicles. There are a lot of shops in California. I believe that 'K&N' filters may have something that would be a bolt-on or easily modified system. Good Luck.

A friend had water problems on her 2001 Southwind W-22. The air box was cracked. Also you might check the drain to see if it is plugged. I know that didn't answer your post but I thought it may help. Marv

I had a ( water/rain ) problem with my 05 Dolphin W22 chassis. I solved the problem by installing a seal around the hood opening. It seams the rain would run down the front of the MH and around the hood and into the air horn. I got the seal material I needed from a place that sold and installed camper shells. They had several kinds to choose from. If you are going to replace your intake system look at the Bank's system for ideas. It makes the most sence because the tube going from the air filter to the throttle valve is the most restrictive after you open up the restriction on the intake side of the air filter box.

This one says stock is 237 CFM

PDF Test says it needs 480 CFM

Cold Air Intake for 8.1

I have had a bad experience with Four Wheel Parts. They are not an option for me anymore for anything I buy.

Triker33
The information you have provided is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much.

All other replies
The stock air intake on my rig is far from efficient and it allows water into the system.

A factory made air intake is cost prohibitive. I can buy the parts and make my own for less than half of any factory set-up.

Considering that my stock intake has 5 bends in it pretty much sums up the fact that it is inefficient by design.

The system that I would make will have 1 ninety degree bend and the filter will be up above the actual hood opening rather than directly in front of the front wheel being subjected to direct water spray.

If all of this works out, I will try and post some pictures for all to see.
Thanks for all of the input and opinions.

Doesn't the manufacturer have a unit designed for your usage? You shouldn't have to design it to be proper!IMHO
